The quarterbacks behind Carson Beck

Carson Beck’s sloppy play has led many Georgia football fans to wonder who could start over him.

One big takeaway from the Georgia Bulldogs’ 34-20 win over the Florida Gators was the play of quarterback Carson Beck, who threw three interceptions.

He threw two touchdowns to win the game, but his turnovers caused the defense to be backed up in Georgia territory a few times. That allowed Florida to score on short fields and stay ahead for the majority of the game.

You could make a legitimate argument that the Gators would’ve won the game if it weren’t for second-string quarterback DJ Lagway going down with an injury, and Beck was a big reason.

Unfortunately, turnovers have hurt Beck all season. Since Week 2, Beck has more interceptions than touchdowns (10 touchdowns, 11 interceptions). This is the second game in a row in which he’s had three interceptions. While you can somewhat understand the struggles in the Texas game because of the stout secondary he played against, Florida had two defensive backs out for this matchup.

Fans are left feeling unsatisfied after the win and unsure if Georgia can remain the top team in the SEC. If UGA loses to Ole Miss and Beck throws multiple interceptions again, fans will be looking for a quarterback change ahead of the Tennessee game.

Here are the options Georgia could choose from should they choose to bench Beck:

Gunner Stockton

Dale Zanine-Imagn Images

The most experienced among Georgia’s backups is sophomore Gunner Stockton. He’s the only one with reps for Georgia. The former four-star recruit has thrown for 238 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in his career.

Looking at the tape from him from high school and college, he has an impressive deep ball, even while scrambling. Sometimes, his footwork can look wonky, but his arm is so strong it doesn’t matter.

Stockton likes targeting the middle of the field and down the sidelines. He can scramble, too. At 6 feet, 1 inch and 220 pounds, he has elite size.

Jaden Rashada

Rob Schumacher-Arizona Republic

Rashada has more experience starting than Stockton due to his freshman season at Arizona State. Last season, Rashada was the starter for the first two games before suffering an injury that took him out of the lineup until November. He came back for 2023’s last game against Arizona. Overall, he had 485 yards passing, four touchdowns and three interceptions.

The former four-star recruit transferred to Georgia in the summer of 2024. Rashada shows legit mobility and a quick release. Some development will help him go through his reads quicker.

Ryan Puglisi

Puglisi has not yet played for Georgia, but the four-star recruit has shown some solid tape at high school. Puglisi excels at ball placement, and he keeps his eyes downfield when under pressure.

He could improve at holding linebackers and safeties with his eyes. Puglisi can stand to be more accurate, but he has a great arm, which he also used to be a great pitching/shortstop prospect out of New England. Puglisi is the least likely of the Georgia quarterbacks to play due to his lack of college experience.

Georgia freshman quarterback limited by injury through spring practice

Freshman quarterback Ryan Puglisi has been hampered by a knee injury through practice

Kirby Smart spoke to the media on Tuesday and gave an update on the health status of one quarterback vying for the backup job. Freshman quarterback Ryan Puglisi has been hampered by a non-serious knee injury through practice, somewhat limiting his ability to fully participate thus far.

Smart clarified Puglisi’s status, saying “Ryan is dealing with a little bit of a knee injury. It’s not a significant injury. He’s had it before, since high school. It has been bothering him. He’s been able to throw. He hasn’t been able to go out and be mobile and run.”

It is good news for the Bulldogs that Puglisi has been able to throw thus far, though Smart did confirm he has “had to miss out on some reps.”

Puglisi was recruited as a four-star quarterback from Avon, Connecticut. He has been praised not only for his talent but also for his competitive nature, showcased during the recruitment process in his decision to stay with Georgia through the entire process despite Dylan Raiola’s initial commitment to play for the Bulldogs.

Georgia signs 4-star quarterback Ryan Puglisi

Georgia signs 4-star quarterback Ryan Puglisi

The Georgia Bulldogs have signed quarterback Ryan Puglisi from Paxton, Massachusetts. The four-star recruit played his senior year at Avon Old Farms High School and is rated one of the best pro style quarterbacks in the country.

He finished his senior season with 1,693 yards and 14 touchdowns. He completed 65.2% of his passes and led Avon Old Farms to a 7-2 record. Puglisi is the No. 10 quarterback in the 2024 class, per 247Sports.

Puglisi was recruited by former offensive coordinator Todd Monken and has maintained his commitment to Georgia, despite all of the noise surrounding Dylan Raiola. Puglisi committed to the Bulldogs on Oct. 16, 2022 and hasn’t taken any visits elsewhere. Puglisi joins a solid quarterback room with Carson Beck and Gunnar Stockton leading the way.

The 6-foot-3 quarterback is a multi-sport athlete that can improvise, but prefers to stand tall in the pocket and make plays with his arm. Puglisi has the ability to throw outside the numbers as good as he can inside the numbers.

We’ve got your early signing period coverage here at UGA Wire throughout the day.

Watch: Georgia football commit, 4-star quarterback Ryan Puglisi’s mom sings the national anthem on senior night

Ryan Puglisi gets a special treat as his mother performed the national anthem last week.

Ryan Puglisi, who committed to Georgia football last fall, had a special moment last week when his mother sang the national anthem prior to his game.

A class of 2024 quarterback at Avon Old Farms (Avon, Connecticut), the ceremonial singing of The Star Spangled Banner was part of the high school program’s ‘Senior Night’ celebrations. Puglisi, a four-star quarterback prospect, stood with his hand over his heart and next to his mother while she delivered a beautiful rendition of the anthem.

The son smiled as his mother hit those final few notes. She absolutely nailed the anthem. Puglisi gave his mother a well-deserved hug as his teammates and the crowd cheered.

(We’re not tearing up over here, you are…)

On the year, Avon Old Farms is 7-2.

Puglisi is a four-star quarterback and has been steadfast in his commitment to Georgia despite the addition of five-star quarterback [autotag]Dylan Raiola[/autotag] in this class.

Georgia beat out Alabama, who offered Puglisi last year, to land a recruit who is the northeast’s top quarterback this year. Puglisi was offered by a number of Power Five programs such as  Boston College, Duke, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others.

Perhaps we will hear his mother perform before a Georgia game sometime during his college career. There is some precedent for this at the Power Five level.

This fall, the father of Rutgers running back Samuel Brown V sang the national anthem prior to a home game at SHI Stadium.

Avon Old Farms is 1-0 when Puglisi’s mother sings the national anthem ( ).

Watch: Georgia QB commits Dylan Raiola, Ryan Puglisi compete at Elite 11 Finals

Dylan Raiola, Ryan Puglisi representing Georgia at Elite 11

Georgia football holds pledges from two of the top quarterbacks in the country in five-star Dylan Raiola, the nation’s No. 1 recruit and four-star Rylan Puglisi, the No. 11 quarterback, per 247Sports Composite.

Both Raiola and Puglisi are competing this week at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles, which features the top passers in the country each year.

The future Bulldogs participated in the ‘Pro Day’ portion of the event on Thursday. Here’s a clip of their workout:

Puglisi was already committed to Georgia when Raiola announced his commitment in May. Despite opportunities elsewhere, Puglisi quickly doubled-down on his pledge to the Bulldogs after the news, “I’m a Georgia Bulldog,” Puglisi told Dawgs Daily.

Georgia has an impressive quarterback room already with fourth-year signal caller Carson Beck, along with former five-star recruit Brock Vandagriff and former four-star Gunner Stockton. Adding players like Raiola and Puglisi sets the Dawgs up for years to come.

Pair of UGA QB commits named to final Elite 11 roster

5-star UGA QB commitment Dylan Raiola headlines the 2023 Elite 11 roster

Five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola, the class’ top-ranked recruit, headlines the 2023 Elite 11 roster. Raiola, who has committed to the University of Georgia, is one of the the favorites to win the MVP award of the famed event.

The 2023 Elite 11 Finals will take place from June 14-16 in Los Angeles, California. The event features 20 highly ranked quarterback recruits in the class of 2024.

Georgia is the only college football program to have a pair of quarterback commitments on the Elite 11 roster. Four-star Georgia commitment Ryan Puglisi joins Dylan Raiola at the event. Eight of the top 10 quarterbacks in the class of 2024 are expected to compete in the Elite 11 Finals (rankings per 247Sports).

Recent winners of the Elite 11 MVP award include CJ Stroud, Cade Klubnik and Caleb Williams. Who will win the event in 2023?

Quarterback Dylan Raiola could cement his status as the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2024 with a strong showing at the Elite 11 Finals. Syndication: Arizona Republic

Raiola is certainly a name to watch at the Elite 11 Finals. He can make all of the throws. Additionally, five-star Michigan commit Jadyn Davis has a great deal of talent. Elijah Brown, the last uncommitted quarterback to be ranked in the top five players at the position is another intriguing prospect to watch.

Georgia 4-star QB commit on Bulldogs landing No. 1 QB Dylan Raiola: ‘My answer stays the same’

Georgia 4-star QB commit Ryan Puglisi talks UGA landing Dylan Raiola

Georgia football is on fire on the recruiting trail, especially at quarterback.

The Bulldogs landed the nation’s top-overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class on Monday with a pledge from five-star prospect Dylan Raiola out of Phoenix, Arizona.

That gives the Dawgs two of the top quarterback recruits in the country: Raiola and four-star Ryan Puglisi, out of Avon, Connecticut, the No. 12 quarterback in the 2024 class, per 247Sports composite.

Puglisi has been committed to Georgia since October and reaffirmed his pledge to Graham Coffey of Dawgs Central on Monday.

“My answer stays the same. I made a decision on Oct. 16 to be a Georgia Bulldog. I am excited for Dylan, he has amazing talent and he is a great kid. It is hard to not pick Georgia, I am excited to work with him and everybody else.”

Raiola had been predicted to commit to the Bulldogs by multiple recruiting experts since decomitting from Ohio State in December.

USC and Nebraska, where Dylan’s father Dominic Raiola was an All-American offensive lineman, were also in the mix, but Athens felt like home for the coveted quarterback.

The Bulldogs have a bright future ahead at quarterback with fourth-year signal caller Carson Beck as the front-runner to take the keys in 2023 and former five-star Brock Vandagriff at his heels.

Former four-star Gunner Stockton will be a redshirt freshman next season and Raiola and Puglisi are set to join the Dawgs in 2024.

QBs to monitor in the 2024 class for Michigan State football

Michigan State is sitting in a good spot with several gunslingers in the 2024 recruiting class

It is never too early to start thinking about what quarterback Michigan State might land in the 2024 recruiting class. Quarterback is obviously the most important position on the field, and it is imperative that the coaching staff restocks the position year over year.

Michigan State’s offensive coordinator and QB coach Jay Johnson has made some great headway thus far with several top quarterbacks in the 2024 class, as he knows how big of a year it will be to land a top QB.

Take a look at what QBs Michigan State has been pursuing in the 2024 class:
