Who will be the starting quarterback for Nebraska in 2024?

Who will be Nebraska’s starting quarterback in 2024?

Who will be Nebraska’s starting quarterback in 2024? Head coach Matt Rhule was asked that very question while appearing on The Hard Count with J.D. PicKell of the On3 network.

Rhule made it clear that there is no timetable for announcing the starting quarterback.

“I think when we know, we know. It’s one of those deals like, I don’t want to play games with people. If we know, we know. At the same time, I’ve watched enough major college football, and we’ve figured out here it’s gonna take a couple of guys. Most years, you’re not gonna play just one quarterback. So, our job is to push all of those guys to be great. Our job is to give them all opportunities to show what they can do and grow.”

The Cornhuskers currently have three quarterbacks on the roster. Junior Heinrich Haarberg and freshmen Dylan Raiola and Danny Kaelin. The Husker head coach spoke in detail about the need for multiple quarterbacks on your roster to be ready to play at any given moment.

“You go back to our last year at Baylor, and we sat there with Charlie Brewer all year long. All of a sudden, he’s hurt, and we’re in the Big 12 Championship Game. We’ve got our third-string quarterback, who’s played one snap the entire year out there trying to bring us back, which he did. So we’re gonna coach everybody, but in terms of naming a starter, we know when it’s clear we’ll do it.”

Nebraska started three quarterbacks (Jeff Sims, Chubba Purdy, and Heinrich Haarberg) last season. The Cornhuskers’ spring game will take place on April 27 at 11:00 a.m.

Husker quarterback commit no longer visiting Michigan State

A Nebraska quarterback commit is no longer planning a visit to a Big Ten rival.

A Nebraska quarterback commit is no longer planning a visit to a Big Ten rival. Three-star prospect Daniel Kaelin will not be taking a trip to Michigan State.

The quarterback initially committed to Missouri but has been committed to the Cornhuskers since May. It’s believed that the recent interest in the recruitment of Dylan Raiola is the reason for Kaelin’s visit

The Bellevue West quarterback threw for 2,235 yards with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2023. The Bellevue, Nebraska native is a consensus three-star prospect across the recruiting industry and a top-10 prospect in Nebraska.

Nebraska quarterback commitment Daniel Kaelin to visit Big Ten program this weekend

A long-time Nebraska commitment is making a visit elsewhere this weekend.

While the Nebraska Cornhuskers are making a push for the nation’s top-ranked quarterback in the 2024 recruiting cycle, Georgia’s Dylan Raiola, it also appears the Huskers are in danger of losing their long-time quarterback commitment in Nebraska native Daniel Kaelin.

According to 247Sports, Kaelin will be making an official visit to Michigan State this weekend to visit the Spartans and their new coaching staff led by Jonathan Smith.

Kalein has been committed to the Huskers since late May, picking Matt Rhule and the Huskers over Missouri, Minnesota, and North Carolina, among others. The Bellevue, Nebraska native is a consensus three-star prospect across the recruiting industry and a top-10 prospect in Nebraska.

As a senior for Bellevue West, Kaelin completed 58.6% of his passes for 2,235 yards, 17 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also had 65 carries for 169 yards and two additional touchdowns. The Huskers hold 25 commitments in their 2024 recruiting class, with the early signing period just one week away.

MSU football to host 3-star QB, Nebraska commit Daniel Kaelin this weekend

Michigan State football is working towards flipping a fellow Big Ten quarterback commit in the 2024 class

Michigan State football is working towards flipping a fellow Big Ten quarterback commit in the 2024 class.

Three-star quarterback Daniel Kaelin will reportedly take an official visit to Michigan State this upcoming weekend. Kaelin is committed to Nebraska, but there is news swirling that the Cornhuskers will flip five-star legacy quarterback Dylan Raiola from Georgia which, of course, would impact Kaelin.

Kaelin ranks as the No. 28 quarterback in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2024 class. He is also listed as the No. 2 player from Nebraska.

Kaelin originally committed to Missouri in March but after the Cornhuskers struck out on Raiola in the spring, he elected to decommit from the Tigers and join Nebraska’s 2024 class. Now that Raiola appears to be back in the mix for the Cornhuskers, Michigan State could swoop in and grab a last-minute commit from a solid three-star prospect in Kaelin.

Keep your eyes out on Kaelin’s recruitment as he could very well end up in East Lansing, Mich. next fall.

Bellevue West’s Jacob Arop receives preferred walk-on offer from Nebraska

Another member of Bellevue West’s football team announced big news in regard to Nebraska.

Another Bellevue West football team member announced big news regarding Nebraska. Offensive tackle Jacob Arop revealed on Twitter that he received a preferred walk-on offer from the Huskers.

Arop visited Nebraska back in April but didn’t announce that he received any offers. This is only the second official Division I Arop’s received. His first offer was from Northern Iowa back in February.

MaxPreps lists Arop at 6-6 280 pounds, and he was previously listed as a defensive end and a tight end. He will also be a part of Bellevue West’s basketball, helping his team complete a perfect season this past March.

If Arop walks on at Nebraska, he will add to the list of Thunderbirds heading to Nebraska for the 2024 season. Notable recruits from Bellevue West are quarterback Danny Kaelin, wide receiver Dae’vonn Hall and wide receiver Isaiah McMorris.

Nebraska QB commit leads team to season-opening victory

A Nebraska quarterback recruit led his team to victory on Friday night.

A Nebraska quarterback recruit led his team to victory on Friday night. Senior recruit Danny Kaelin and Bellevue West defeated Creighton Prep, 27-14, in their season-opening high school football game.

Kaelin went 22 of 35 passing for 225 yards. Bellevue West is also home to wide receiver prospects Dae’vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris.

Kaelin committed to the University of Missouri in March. He announced his new commitment to the Cornhuskers less than 24 hours after decommitting from the Tigers.

Allen Trieu of 247Sports believes the Bellevue, Nebraska native is an effective passer and has the ability to fit the ball into tight spots.

“Shows the ability to anticipate and throw into windows and throw his receivers open. Solid to good arm strength. Very effective as an intermediate passer. Throws it well enough down the field to keep defenses honest but would not be currently classified as elite in the velocity category.”

Bellevue West will retake the field on Friday when it hosts Ohama North in a non-district matchup. Find social media reactions to the game below.

Recruiting Roundup: 5 teams get commitments from 2024 QB prospects

While Van Buren was the highest-ranked prospect among them, Oregon wasn’t the only team that added talent at QB.

Oregon won the recruiting race over the weekend, hands-down. The Ducks picked up two new blue-chip commits for their 2024 class, starting with Durant (Okla.) four-star defensive lineman Xadavien Sims. They also added St. Frances Academy (Md.) four-star quarterback Michael Van Buren.

While Van Buren was the highest-ranked prospect among them, Oregon wasn’t the only team that added talent at QB. Four other programs also got commitments from quarterbacks in the 2024 class. Here’s who they are, where they play their high school football and where they rank at the position compared to their peers.

2024 recruiting briefing: Who could Michigan State football land at QB

Who could end up as Michigan State’s quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class? Check out here:

National Signing Day has passed, officially closing the door on the 2023 recruiting cycle. Now, it is time for everyone to shift their focus to the 2024 recruiting class.

A goal every team should have is landing a quarterback early in the cycle to help recruit the rest of the class over the remainder of the cycle.

Michigan State has done a good job recruiting quarterbacks in recent memory, landing 4-star Katin Houser in 2022 and 4-star Sam Leavitt in 2023, and they will look to do more of the same in 2024.

Check out the potential options Michigan State could end up with at quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class:

QBs to monitor in the 2024 class for Michigan State football

Michigan State is sitting in a good spot with several gunslingers in the 2024 recruiting class

It is never too early to start thinking about what quarterback Michigan State might land in the 2024 recruiting class. Quarterback is obviously the most important position on the field, and it is imperative that the coaching staff restocks the position year over year.

Michigan State’s offensive coordinator and QB coach Jay Johnson has made some great headway thus far with several top quarterbacks in the 2024 class, as he knows how big of a year it will be to land a top QB.

Take a look at what QBs Michigan State has been pursuing in the 2024 class:

Nebraska QB talks recruitment, Clemson, what ‘definitely stands out’ about the Tigers

The Clemson Insider caught up with a standout signal-caller from the Cornhusker State who impressed Clemson offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter with his performance at the Dabo Swinney Camp earlier this summer. Bellevue West …

The Clemson Insider caught up with a standout signal-caller from the Cornhusker State who impressed Clemson offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brandon Streeter with his performance at the Dabo Swinney Camp earlier this summer.

Bellevue West High School (Bellevue, Neb.) quarterback Daniel Kaelin – a 6-foot-3, 195-pound rising junior in the 2024 class – recently spoke with TCI as he got set to start his season, which kicks off tonight against Creighton Prep (Omaha, Neb).

“I think this summer and offseason has gone really good,” he said. “Last year ended in the semis. We thought we had a really good team that could’ve went the whole way, so I think that’s something we used as motivation this offseason. But we’re past that now. We’ve been working really hard. Especially these last couple weeks and in camp, been seeing a lot of improvement. So, I think we’re in a really good spot right now and ready to get this season started.”

Playing last season as part of a quarterback rotation, Kaelin threw for 700 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions while helping Bellevue West to a 10-2 record in 2021.

As he approached his junior campaign, Kaelin’s focus was geared more toward the mental aspect of football rather than the physical side of the game.

“Right now, I think coming closer to the season, I think really just my preparation, more of the football IQ side is really the biggest thing that I’m trying to hone in – I would say as far as execution of plays and the more mental side of the game,” he said. “Because a lot of the offseason is when you’re doing hard training, even in the summer, is training your body to be at the peak athletic performance that you could be and then just training your arm. So I think right now the biggest thing that I’m focusing on in my game is just knowing our playbook inside and out, being an extension of my coach on the field for my teammates and having the highest possible execution on the field.”

The No. 4 prospect in the state of Nebraska regardless of position according to Rivals, 247Sports and the 247Sports Composite, Kaelin has collected a double-digit list of scholarship offers that includes Arizona State, Duke, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Rutgers and Vanderbilt.

The recruiting process isn’t Kaelin’s primary focus right now, with most of his attention on his team and season, though he expects to have to juggle football and recruiting more come Sept. 1 when college coaches can begin actively reaching out to junior prospects like himself.

“I just want to limit all that so that nothing’s coming in the way of my performance and my team for this season,” he said of the recruiting process. “Obviously September 1st is coming up and that’ll bring a couple more stuff with recruiting, and I’ll make sure to quiet that out as quickly as possible. But right now, just the season and my team is what I’m focusing on right now.”

Prior to participating in the Swinney Camp this summer, Kaelin also traveled to Tiger Town for an unofficial visit on April 8.

According to Kaelin, his coach has been in contact with Clemson a little bit since he camped there in June, and he would be happy to hear from the Tigers himself when Sept. 1 rolls around.

“I’m sure there’ll be some coaches that I don’t expect to reach out, to reach out,” he said. “Whoever does, I’m grateful for. I’m not necessarily hoping for anyone to. I already have a lot of great options right now. But Clemson would definitely be a great university and a great program. If they reached out, it’d definitely be pretty cool.”

When Kaelin thinks about Clemson’s program, its tradition at the quarterback position is something that certainly appeals to him, with the Tigers having developed players like Tajh Boyd, Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence in recent years.

“That definitely stands out,” he said. “When you look at a program, a part of that is seeing the coach that’s been there and who they’ve produced, how that program has produced quarterbacks. But obviously a quarterback-friendly offense, and they’ve had really successful quarterbacks that have gone on to do good things in the league. So, that definitely stands out about Clemson, for sure.”

Looking ahead, after this season, Kaelin expects to begin working toward making his commitment decision.

“Sometime after the season, I’ll start narrowing that down and figuring that out,” he said. “But I would say late winter would probably be the latest it could happen, right now. We’ll see.”

There are a handful of schools on his current offer list standing out to him right now, he said.

I feel like I’ll get more clarity on that after September 1st and the more I can talk to coaches,” he said. “But who I’m talking to a lot right now is Michigan State, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Rutgers. That’s probably the four I talk to the most. Duke and Mizzou a little bit right now. But we’ll see what happens September 1st.”
