12 best available players for Jaguars on Day 2

The Jaguars still have needs at cornerback, pass rusher, and tight end. Luckily for them, there are plenty of viable options in rounds two and three.

For weeks it seemed the Jacksonville Jaguars intended to focus their first-round efforts on upgrading their defense. Instead, the Jaguars traded down twice near the end of the round and opted to select offensive tackle Anton Harrison.

The move made plenty of sense for Jacksonville given the departure of Jawaan Taylor in free agency and the impending suspension of Cam Robinson. Still, it came with plenty of talent on the board.

With the Jaguars sitting at No. 56 and No. 88 overall in rounds two and three, respectively, there’s no shortage of exciting players still available Friday night. Here are 12 prospects who would make sense for Jacksonville to target:

Which Michigan State alum could hear their names called during day two of the NFL Draft

There are a handful of MSU alums that could hear their names called in rounds two or three

Does the streak grow to 80 years on Friday night?

To no surprise, no Michigan State players were selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. While a day one pick in this bunch was always unlikely, there’s a shot for a few MSU alums to get selected during day two. Which Spartans have a shot at being the one to extend MSU’s streak of having at least one player selected in the NFL Draft to 80 straight years? Well, there are a few candidates out of the 14 draft eligible prospects.

Where Taylor and Baun land in USA Today’s 2nd-round mock draft

To the surprise of many neither running back Jonathan Taylor or linebacker Zack Baun had their name called during the first round of the NFL Draft last night.

The former Badgers weren’t considered “locks” to be selected on night one but there was a great chance for one of the two to become the first first-round pick out of Wisconsin since Ryan Ramczyk went No. 32 in 2017.

Aside from the fact that neither of the two Badger standouts did not hear their name called, what was most surprising last night was the Kansas City Chiefs opting to take a running back in LSU’s Clyde Edwards-Helaire instead of Taylor at No. 32, and both the Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens choosing to take a linebacker not named Zack Baun at No. 27 and 28 respectively.

While many would expect Taylor and Baun to be in prime position to come off the board early tonight when round two gets underway, some outlets are a little more bullish on the Badgers’ draft standings.

This morning USA Today Sports released a mock draft for tonight’s second round and, despite all of the pre-draft love for the two Badgers, have them continuing to slide to the middle and end of the second round.

Specifically, the mock draft has Taylor being selected at No. 45 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baun at No. 55 to the Baltimore Ravens.

Taylor’s selection at No. 45 would make him the third running back off the board after Edwards-Helaire went No. 32 and D’Andre Swift, who the mock draft has going No. 33 to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Baun’s selection at No. 55 would actually land him on team many saw him going to during round one in the Baltimore Ravens.

Putting aside the number at which the players are selected, Taylor and Baun falling to the Buccaneers and the Ravens respectively would represent a best-case scenario for the two standouts.

Taylor playing on the now-Tom Brady led offense behind an improved offensive line would equal ridiculous production in his early years.

Baun, then, playing on the stacked Raven defense with the already-established names they have in Baltimore in addition to the team’s first round selection in linebacker Patrick Queen would mean success and lots of it for the Wisconsin native as he begins his NFL career.

The second and third rounds of the NFL Draft begin tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN, NFL Network and ABC.

Colts can steal a safety prospect on Day 2 of NFL draft

Colts can find safety value on Day 2.

After a few shocks in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts find themselves in a very interesting position as the second round opens up on Friday.

As the owners of the Nos. 34 and 44 picks, the Colts have unique positioning to draft two players who can have immediate impacts. One of those picks could come at the safety position.

After no safeties were taken off the board in Round 1, there are plenty of value picks in the early portion of the second round. Here are a few options for Chris Ballard and Co. to take with their first two picks of this draft:

Grant Delpit, LSU

Some saw it as a surprise that Delpit did not get picked on Thursday night, but many teams will be thankful that he didn’t.  As a three-year starter for LSU, Delpit has won two Consensus All-American awards and was a two-time first-team All-SEC selection.

Delpit would bring an interesting combination of elite coverage skills mixed with run-stopping ability. He would fit in the Colts secondary and could help on stopping the run while blitzing as well. He is a very versatile prospect.

Xavier McKinney, Alabama

McKinney falling out of the first round was also a shock to many around the league. The junior safety out of Alabama was an All-SEC selection in 2019 and decided to leave the Crimson Tide a year early after having a breakout year.

McKinney is great in downfield pass coverage, but where he shines is in blitz packages when he is able to rush the quarterback. He is very fast and has great vision for reading a QB for an interception.

Antoine Winfield Jr., Minnesota

This pick would most likely be at No. 44, but Winfield is no consolation prize. He decided to forego his final two years of eligibility for the Golden Gophers after his breakout year in 2019 where he earned the honors of Unanimous first-team All-American, first-team All-Big Ten and was named Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year.

As a talented safety, Winfield has great coverage skills and excels in zone coverage when he can come across the field for a pick. His ability to read the quarterback and undercut routes is very rare at his age and level of play.

He is also a talented punt returner, which highlights his ability to read the field and use his speed to his advantage. As a very versatile athlete, he is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps.

After a multitude of reports came out about the Colts possibly trading Malik Hooker this week to move up in the draft, many thought the Colts would need to draft a safety coming up in the second round. What nobody thought, however, was the quality of safeties that would still be on the board.

Hooker’s inability to stay healthy is still a concern as he heads into the fourth year of his rookie contract and has yet to receive an extension or a fifth-year option.

Could this be the spot where the Colts make a decision on their future at the safety position? Could other safeties like Jeremy Chinn and Ashtyn Davis be options too?

Either way, the Colts have many options on what to do with their two second-round picks. The way this draft has gone so far, I would not be surprised to see a couple more shocking moves on Day 2 and beyond.
