Michigan State football: Where every coach on the old staff is employed now

Tracking where MSU’s former coaching staff has landed:

Michigan State went under a major overhaul, obviously, when they hired Jonathan Smith to take over the Spartan football program. With the new changes to the Spartan football program, came a full overhaul within the MSU coaching staff.

While we know what the new staff looks like, it is time to look at the old staff, and where members of the old staff ended up in their new coaching positions.

He is originally from Redondo Beach, California. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Wilson will provide stability to the long snapper position on the special teams unit. Michigan State football releases assistant coach salaries

MSU assistant coaches have gotten raises for the 2022 season

The start of football in 2022 is soon upon us as the Spartans are set to kick off spring ball in just a few short weeks. With spring ball starting, the coaching carousel is officially dying down and coaching staffs are being completely solidified across the country.

It appears that Mel Tucker has locked in his staff for the 2022 football season and the Spartans are ready to roll into spring football.

With Tucker’s new contract came an increase in the money available to pay assistant coaches, which Tucker used to increase the salaries of his assistant coaches, and fill the open positions left on his staff.

Find out what each assistant coaches new salary is:

Michigan State football gets into the market for 5-star 2022 Texas LB

Michigan State has entered the race for a 5-star LB in the 2022 class

It is very unusual to see offers go out this late in the cycle to top-tier talent. Most players in the 4 and 5-star range have already narrowed their lists down and are focusing on a select few schools.

Michigan State linebackers coach Ross Els has gone against the grain here, sending out an offer to 5-star LB Harold Perkins.

One has to think that there is more going on behind the scenes, and this is definitely a development worth watching.

Perkins is a native of Cypress, Texas, and currently ranks as the No. 5 overall player in the nation.

Before this, Bo was playing as a wide receiver in the NAIA with Morningside College where he was one of the best receivers and kick returners in the league. He won two NAIA National Championships with Morningside.

Bo had originally started his playing career as a quarterback in high school before moving to wide receiver in college.

Michigan State makes top 5 for coveted linebacker, decision looming

Florida commit Chief Borders is reassessing his choice and will make a final decision on Thanksgiving. The Spartans have made the final cut.

[jwplayer uZffHiR1-PROpJzTY]

Since the day he arrived, recruiting has been emphasized as a top priority for Mel Tucker and his staff. Spartan fans have seen that emphasis and the impact it has made in a big way with the 2021 recruiting class. Mel Tucker is still on the prowl and has gone into SEC country to try and pull his next target.

Chief Borders is a highly coveted 4-star outside linebacker out of Heard County High School in Carrollton, Georgia. Borders has received some high praise, with some people comparing his play style to Khalil Mack among others. The 6-foot-5, 245 pounder is a menace on the defensive side of the ball with a scary combination of size and speed.

Borders has been committed to the University of Florida since November 2019 but that decision is now in question once again and the final decision will be made Thursday on Thanksgiving.

Michigan State has made the final grouping with a very stacked field including Florida State, LSU, Stanford and current placeholder Florida.

Many believe that Stanford is the current frontrunner to earn the outside linebacker’s talents after his acceptance to the school, although Michigan State is not to be counted out. Chief refers to Coach Tucker as “Uncle Mel” and the coaches relationship with the family dates back to his days at the University of Georgia. That relationship Tucker has with the Borders family has single-handedly kept the Spartans in the race and there is a solid chance Michigan State could be the winners here.

Be sure to follow Chief’s Twitter page throughout the day tomorrow for the final decision.

WATCH: Michigan State Football coaching staff puts out hilarious Full House Tik Tok

The Michigan State Football coaching staff put their own spin on the Full House intro in a hilarious Tik Tok video.

[jwplayer PPs4Ox8k]

In this edition of, ‘The most 2020 thing I’ve seen all week’, the Michigan State Football team has officially created a Tik Tok account, and I have to give them some credit because they put out a pretty hilarious video to launch the new account of the coaching staff in a funny take on the Full House intro.

Here are a few of my favorite moments:

  • Special Teams Coordinator Ross Els using an elaborate Ferris Bueller-esque setup to chill on the couch during the quarantine.
  • Offensive Line Coach Chris Kapilovic pushing car because of course the offensive line coach is pushing a car.
  • Defensive Line Coach Ron Burton sinking a putt. Great form. This was my Masters moment.

Michigan State reportedly hires Ross Els as special teams coordinator

Els would be the eight assistant coach on Mel Tucker’s staff.

More reinforcements for Mel Tucker’s first coaching staff are on their way from Boulder, Colorado.

According to Colorado bear reporter Brian Howell, Colorado linebackers coach and special teams coordinator Ross Els will be going the Michigan State staff.

As Howell alludes to their are still roles to be sorted out among the defense–most notably with former MSU defensive coordinator Mike Tressel whose role has yet to be publicly announced–but Els looks to be headed for the special teams coordinator role.

Els was the special teams coordinator under Tucker in 2019 and Colorado improved form 89th in special teams SP+ in 2018 to 43rd in 2019. Els was also ran special teams for Nebraska from 2012-2014 and those years the Cornhuskers finished 32nd, 8th, and 51st in special teams SP+.

Els has also coached special teams at New Mexico and Ohio University, in addition to being the defensive coordinator at Purdue in 2016.
