Three takeaways from Texas’ Red River Rivalry loss to Oklahoma

It will be another year of the Sooners wearing the Golden Hat. Here are three takeaways from Texas’ Red River Shootout loss to Oklahoma:

Texas’ offensive line is holding them back

Despite having one of the top-scoring offenses in the country, Sam Ehlinger is receiving no help from his offensive line. After allowing nine sacks in last season’s game, the Sooners got to Ehlinger six times on Saturday. For an Oklahoma pass rush that has been suspect, they were practically living in Texas’ backfield.

Left tackle Samuel Cosmi was the lone bright spot, not giving up a single quarterback pressure according to PFF. The future first-round pick was the lone lineman do to so.

Left guard Junior Angilau had a couple of penalties, pushing the offense back while right tackle Christian Jones was getting beat on the outside consistently. If the Longhorns offensive line performed better consistently, not only could the run game be more efficient but Ehlinger would have more time to make plays downfield.

Until Herb Hand can figure out to fix the offensive line, Texas’ offense will continue to struggle. Despite putting major points on the board, Ehlinger is not being protected well enough on a snap to snap basis.
