New Year, new mock: Browns land Josh Downs, Byron Young in 2023 NFL Mock Draft

The Browns land a high-profile playmaker in this New Year’s Eve mock draft

With just two weeks left in the season, and with the Cleveland Browns getting set to take on the Washington Commanders on New Year’s Day, we are officially nearing 2023 NFL Draft territory. And as we ramp up to draft activities, more mock drafts will come out as well. Celebrate the New Year with this 2023 NFL Mock Draft for the Browns!

Even without a first round pick, the Browns have eight draft picks to work with. Defensive tackle is a big need for the Browns, but so is wide receiver as they look to incorporate more air raid concepts into their offense in 2023. They address both of those positions early in this mock draft as they look to add talent to their underachieving roster.

Enjoy!

Browns overhaul front 7 in 2023 NFL Mock Draft with Nolan Smith, Ruke Orhorhoro

The Browns overhaul their front seven in this 2023 NFL Mock Draft.

The Cleveland Browns do not have much to look forward to as they have all but been eliminated from the playoffs after a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. This is why we are now seeing an uptick in 2023 NFL Mock Drafts. While they do not have a first round pick, the Browns do have a total of eight picks in this upcoming draft.

With needs at defensive end, defensive tackle, tight end, wide receiver, and more, what can the Browns do this Spring to upgrade their roster? Here is a 2023 NFL Mock Draft for the Browns as we attempt to plug some holes in Berea.

Browns scouts present at Ohio State vs. Michigan

The Browns have scouts present at The Ohio State vs. Michigan game today in Columbus.

Is there a better rivalry in all of sports than The Ohio State Buckeyes vs. the Michigan Wolverines? As the second and third-ranked teams in the nation get set to square off at noon today, the Cleveland Browns will be one of many teams sending scouts to the big game.

There are plenty of players who they could be watching from Ohio State’s Ronnie Hickman, Zach Harrison, Steele Chambers, and Dawand Jones to Michigan’s Mike Morris, Mazi Smith, and more. With a load of 2023 NFL Draft talent present in this matchup, it would be unwise for the Browns not to be.

Know your foe, Ohio State: Five Buckeyes that could give Notre Dame problems

A tough assignment in Columbus this weekend

This Buckeye team is going to pose problems for every opponent they face they year, regardless of how good the squad is on the other sidelines. With that in mind, many of us already know about the exploits of quarterback CJ Stroud, running back TreVeyon Henderson and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, so they won’t be featured here. There are other members of the Ohio State team that could give Notre Dame issues on Saturday night and here they are.

Top three NFL draft-eligible safeties in the Big Ten for 2022

Top three NFL draft-eligible safeties in the Big Ten for 2022. #GoBucks #B1G

It is never too early to talk about the NFL Draft, and one of the most polarizing and fun positions to discuss is the safety position. As we said in the cornerback piece, the Ohio State football program makes a solid argument as DBU (or BIA as it may) with historic names like Malik Hooker, Vonn Bell, and Donte Whitner once roaming the Buckeye defensive backfield.

The safety class in the Big Ten is a little underwhelming with the departure of former Northwestern star, Brandon Joseph, entering the transfer portal and heading to Notre Dame. I also had high hopes for Marcus Hooker as he showed flashes, but failed to stick and opted to transfer to Youngstown State. Enough talking about who left and let’s focus don’t the top three in the Big Ten.

Big Ten media day comments from Ryan Day, Ronnie Hickman, C.J. Stroud, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Big Ten media days are in the books, and there was plenty to digest — especially in a day and age when there are so many monumental changes occurring across the college football landscape.

Ohio State is front and center in helping to shape where things go, and head coach Ryan Day was the last head coach to speak at the podium on during the two-day event. He had plenty to say then, and then had an additional media session afterward along with players Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ronnie Hickman, and C.J. Stroud.

In case you missed some of those side session comments the four Ohio State representatives made in Indianapolis, we’ve got significant video and audio of the responses to some of those questions that were lobbed their way.

Of course, the Michigan game came up, but so did Name, Image, and Likeness as well as conference expansion and realignment. Here’s the video of each as they took their turn in front of the media at Lucas Oil Stadium.

In another sign that the Ohio State football team will be taking the field sooner rather than later for some good ‘ole fashioned American college football, the players that will be representing the Buckeyes along with head coach Chris Holtmann were announced on Monday.

According to a release from the Big Ten, Ohio State’s turn at the podium will take place on Wednesday, July 27, with Day taking the stage last from 12:30 to 12:45 pm. After that, the following players will be on hand to field questions from reporters in a separate media engagement.

Ronnie Hickman, Safety
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Wide Receiver
C.J. Stroud, Quarterback

Tune in to the Big Ten Network beginning on Tuesday, July 26, to catch the first day of Big Ten media days, then follow it through Wednesday to watch live and receive updates on what Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and the three players have to say.

Seven Ohio State players make Phil Steele’s All-American squads

A whopping seven OSU players were mentioned in Phil Steele’s All-American college football teams for 2022. #GoBucks

There are preseason college football magazines, and then there are preseason college football magazines. Most everyone agrees that Phil Steele puts out the king of preseason CFB mags on a yearly basis, and that’s because the research is top-notch and it is packed full of interesting stats and tidbits you just don’t find anywhere else.

In a nod to college football getting ready to gear up, and with it Ohio State football, you can find several preseason college football magazines on newsstands and grocery stores in your neighborhood right now. That includes the venerable Phil Steele page-turner.

We always check in with Steele to see what he says about Ohio State, and we’re doing the same this year. Our first stop is to look and see how many Buckeyes he has on his All-American teams. As fate would have it, with so many dynamic players back on this year’s Buckeye squad, Steele has a whopping seven players littered across his four All-American squads.

And yeah, we’re here to break it down for you. Here are all seven Ohio State players that got a mention in Phil Steele’s All-American teams for the 2022 college football season.
