Ronnie Harrison returns to Browns per his agents

Joe Woods will have almost his entire secondary back from 2021 with the return of one of their starting safeties:

The Cleveland Browns had a couple of free agents that were starters or key contributors on their defense last year. Jadeveon Clowney topped the list along with Anthony Walker Jr., Ronnie Harrison, M.J. Stewart and Takk McKinley.

Cleveland brought back Walker earlier this offseason while Stewart signed with the Houston Texans. McKinley’s torn Achilles tendon late in the 2021 season will likely keep him out for the majority of the 2022 year.

The Browns want to bring back Clowney to help fortify a defensive line that lacks starters outside of Myles Garrett.

That meant Harrison’s free agency was the most interesting. He has started for the team shortly after arriving in a trade but wasn’t great for the team. With only a couple of weeks before the NFL draft, the strong safety will be returning to Cleveland for one more year:

Harrison started alongside John Johnson III and/or Grant Delpit most of the year. Defensive coordinator Joe Woods has made it clear that he prefers having three safeties on the field as often as possible.

With Richard LeCounte III not showing much as a rookie and the versatile Stewart gone, some wondered if Cleveland would pursue Tyrann Mathieu to replace Harrison.

Harrison has played in 23 games for the Browns, starting 18 of those in two seasons. During that time he has two interceptions, one touchdown, one fumble recovery and two sacks.

The former Alabama star struggled at times with discipline finding himself out of position on run fits and in coverage. His aggressive style does lend to some big hits as well.

With Harrison back, Woods has the majority of his secondary returning for a second year. Expecting development from Greg Newsome II and LeCounte in their second years will also improve the play of those around them.

GM Andrew Berry can now focus on the defensive line and wide receiver needs before the NFL draft at the end of the month.

Every former Alabama player who is set to become a free agent this NFL offseason

On March 17 the NFL free agency will open up and as you would expect there will be several former Alabama players that will be in the open market. Now it is important to remember that some of these players could receive contract extensions from their current teams before hitting free agency

Once free agency begins we will be doing full breakdowns here at Roll Tide Wire on where each of these players signs and how it will impact their new team.

Here is the complete list.

Browns vs Ravens inactives report for Week 14: Big inactive and new right tackle for Cleveland

Another defensive starter out (inactive) today and a new starting right tackle for Cleveland. A few key players for Baltimore inactive as well. Both inactives list here:

The Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens face off in Week 14 on the shores of Lake Erie. After falling to the Ravens in Week 12, the Browns got a chance to rest during their bye week. Baltimore, on the other hand, had a tough loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With the game about 90 minutes away, both teams have released their inactives list for today’s game. Both teams have a number of players who will miss the game either on injured reserve or on the COVID-19 list that do not show up on these lists.

With so many players missing, both teams will have a lot of backups playing important snaps today. These are the official inactive players for this week:

Browns

  • WR Anthony Schwartz
  • CB Greg Newsome II
  • S Ronnie Harrison Jr.
  • S Richard LeCounte III
  • TE Harrison Bryant
  • DT Tommy Togiai

The big-name for the Browns is Harrison. He was questionable coming into the game and will miss the matchup. With Newsome also down, the team’s secondary will be limited. Somewhat surprising to have LeCounte inactive despite Harrison’s status but the team did elevate Javonte Moffatt this week.

The team announced that rookie James Hudson III will start at right tackle as well.

Ravens

  • CB Jimmy Smith
  • FB Patrick Ricard
  • OL Patrick Mekari
  • WR Miles Boykin
  • TE Nick Boyle

A few big names out for Baltimore with Smith, Ricard and Boyle a big part of their team. Both teams are using a lot of backups and young guys to fill important roles today.

Browns injuries: Harrison back, Wills MRI, Walker uncertain and more

What we know after Monday on the major Browns injuries has some good and some bad:

The Cleveland Browns are 3 – 1. At the end of the season, all that will matter is if they have enough wins to make it into the NFL playoffs and are good enough to compete when they get there.

For now, performance and injuries are the story.

The Browns struggled against the Houston Texans before Tyrod Taylor went out and Baker Mayfield struggled mightily against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4. The defense has turned it around quickly, first against the struggling Chicago Bears and then against a very good offense on the road in Minnesota.

As always, the run game continues to do well, despite lower than expected PFF scores.

We reviewed a lot of the good and bad from the Week 4 victory here.

A lot of unknowns coming out of the game revolved around injury but we got updates on Monday that provide some clarity:

Browns Ronnie Harrison, concussion, OUT against Vikings

Another secondary player is out for the Browns game against the Vikings with Harrison’s concussion:

The Cleveland Browns held a lead into the second half of their Week 4 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. The Browns defense gave up a long drive on the Vikings opening drive but had shut them down for the next four possessions into the third quarter.

The offense has struggled with Baker Mayfield missing his receivers quite often. Despite that, the Browns led the game 11 – 7 into the third quarter.

Unfortunately for Cleveland, safety Ronnie Harrison will not return to the game. Harrison was knocked out of the game early in the first half with a concussion. He was evaluated during the first half before being officially ruled out in the second half:

Grant Delpit took over the majority of the safety snaps for Harrison. The Browns secondary is without starting cornerback Greg Newsome II as well in this game.

The Vikings Dalvin Cook continues to struggle with his ankle injury which could lead to Minnesota opening up their passing attack against a weakened Browns secondary.

Chiefs coach was fined for Week 1 altercation with Browns Ronnie Harrison

Bringing closure to the Week 1 incident, the Chiefs assistant coach that pushed Harrison was reportedly fined for his actions after initial reports stated otherwise:

While the NFL is on to Week 3, we get a little bit of closure from a Week 1 incident that may have played a role in the Cleveland Browns loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In that game, safety Ronnie Harrison was involved in a tackle on the sideline of Clyde Edwards-Helaire. During the physicality after the play, Harrison was pushed by Chiefs assistant coach Greg Lewis and then pushed the coach. Initially, the Chiefs sideline was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct but then the referees gathered and a decision was made to eject Harrison from the game.

The Browns went on to lose the game 33 – 29.

Harrison was also fined for his actions but initial reports were that Lewis was not. Earlier this week, Yahoo reported the NFLPA was informed that Lewis was in fact fined:

“It has been communicated to us that the Chiefs coach was fined by the NFL,” union president J.C. Tretter told Yahoo Sports on Monday.

While the fine does nothing to ease the frustration Harrison’s ejection caused, it brings closure to the incident.

Ronnie Harrison, Chiefs coach not expected to be suspended for incident

No suspensions looming for the Browns safety or Chiefs coach:

The Cleveland Browns lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. While the biggest loss may be the loss of left tackle Jedrick Wills to injury, depending on the length, the first loss came with the expulsion of safety Ronnie Harrison during the game.

During the incident that led to Harrison’s ejection, the Chiefs offensive play ended near their own sideline. As happens, a lot of people were in a very tight area. Harrison seemed to lose his balance leading to his foot on a Chiefs player when a Chiefs assistant coach came over and pushed the Browns player.

Initially, only the Chiefs were penalized but the referees then conferred before penalizing and ejected Cleveland’s safety.

Early Monday morning came a report that neither Harrison nor the Chiefs coach, Greg Lewis, will have a suspension coming out of the incident:

Any further loss of playing time for Harrison would be extreme given that he missed the majority of the game. Both Harrison and Lewis could still be fined for the incident, however.

Browns safety Ronnie Harrison got ejected after shoving a Chiefs coach on the sidelines

That escalated quickly.

The Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs met Sunday for a Week 1 rematch of last season’s AFC Divisional Round game. That game, as you might remember, saw Patrick Mahomes sustain a concussion, and Mahomes’ mother would even go as far as to call Browns linebacker Mack Wilson “evil” on Twitter.

So, it should come as no surprise that the Chiefs were on the lookout for any extracurricular antics from the Browns. We saw that in the first quarter.

After a short pass to Clyde Edwards-Helaire for a first down, the Chiefs running back was tackled near the sideline with safety Ronnie Harrison around him. It appeared that Harrison’s cleat was on Edwards-Helaire’s chest (though intent wasn’t clear), so Chiefs running backs coach Greg Lewis intervened to push Harrison off of Edwards-Helaire.

Harrison didn’t appreciate that and responded by shoving Lewis.

At first, there was plenty of confusion over what went down. The officials initially called the unsportsmanlike penalty on Lewis and the Chiefs bench. But after further discussion (and either a call from New York or a glance at the videoboard), the officiating crew decided to call a penalty and eject Harrison from the game.

Here’s another look at the incident:

While Lewis did push Harrison first, he was allowed to stay on the sidelines. The Chiefs would settle for a field goal on the drive.

Browns’ Ronnie Harrison ejected for pushing Chiefs’ assistant coach

Browns safety Ronnie Harrison was ejected after an altercation on the sidelines with a Chiefs assistant coach

The Cleveland Browns will be without safety Ronnie Harrison for most of their game with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The DB got into it with Kansas City RB coach Greg Lewis after he was pushed off one of the Chiefs following a sideline tackle.

Originally, the Chiefs were called for a personal foul.

However, New York buzzed the officiating crew and after a review, it was decided Harrison was the guilty part.

The Browns were assessed a 15-yard penalty and Harrison was thrown out of the key AFC Clash in Kansas City.

Browns DB Ronnie Harrison ejected: Sideline confrontation leads to disqualification

The Browns are already without Grant Delpit and lost Ronnie Harrison to an ejection in the 1st quarter of Week 1:

The Cleveland Browns started out their Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a touchdown and two-point conversion. The Chiefs started their offensive drive with their explosive offense driving.

During that opening drive safety Ronnie Harrison was involved with Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire on a play near the sideline. Immediately following the conclusion of the play, the Chiefs sideline was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Television replays quickly showed a replay with Harrison losing his balance and landing with his foot on Edwards-Helaire. A Chiefs coach then pushed Harrison. The Browns safety then retaliated with a push to the coach:

The above video shows only Harrison’s response.

Shortly after calling the penalty on the Chiefs’ sideline, it was announced that Harrison was called for unsportsmanlike conduct and ejected from the game.

With Grant Delpit out with an injury, M.J. Stewart will likely step in as the team’s other safety next to John Johnson III for the remainder of the game.
