What happens if a CFB Playoff game is cancelled? A plan is announced

The COVID pandemic has hindered a lot of original plans, but a backup should always be in order. The College Football PLayoff announced p…

A year like 2020 has taught us many things, one of the most important being: always have a backup plan.

The ongoing COVID pandemic has impacted nearly every sport, conference, program or individual. Many games throughout the 2020 college football season had either been cancelled or postponed and rescheduled.

For example, Ohio State only managed to play five regular season games due to constant issues with in-program outbreaks or an opponent dealing with the virus.

With bowl season upon the college football community, all eyes turn toward the final four teams and their bowl games, AKA Semi-Finals for the 2020-2021 National Championship.

Though it may seem unnecessary with there only being two games to play, the College Football Playoff organization has come up with a plan in case any games are cancelled.

The plan consists of three dates, ideal for any COVID-related issues teams may face prior to the originally scheduled game, allowing enough time for testing and any arrangements that need to be made.

LOOK: Twitter reacts to Alabama-LSU game cancellation

Alabama will have a second week off from playing after an outbreak within the LSU program forces this saturdays contest to be canceled.

News broke today of the Alabama vs. LSU contest being postponed, the game was originally scheduled for this upcoming Saturday. The cancellation is due to an outbreak of COVID-19 within the LSU program.

Fans of both teams are upset and frustrated over the cancellation, leading to them voicing their emotions on Twitter.

Here’s what some had to say:

Fans across the country are crying since their will no longer be a night game in ‘Death Valley.’

Tennessee‘s matchup against Texas A&M was also canceled due to an outbreak within the Aggies program.  Is this even possibility?

LSU already had to reschedule their game against Florida earlier on in the season, this fan suggests putting them through an SEC gauntlet in  single day.

Creative, but the emotion is still there.

Mac Jones in this picture represents all of us.

This theory has been making the rounds on Twitter.

This is the only appropriate response.

Wait a minute…

This fan already added one to Alabama’s win column, game or not.

Florida vs LSU football postponed until December 12 due to COVID outbreak

Due to a coronavirus outbreak on the University of Florida’s football team, the game between UF and LSU has been rescheduled for Dec. 12.

[jwplayer 9tjU7C84]

Due to an outbreak among players, coaches and staff on the University of Florida’s football team, the game between UF and the LSU Tigers this Saturday in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium has been rescheduled for Dec. 12 at the same venue.

Initially, five cases were reported on Tuesday by the university when UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin announced that football-related activities were immediately suspended before Payton Titus of The Independent Florida Alligator reported that the actual number of positive tests on the team was 19. That report was later confirmed by multiple outlets.

Stricklin offered the following statement, clarifying the actual number of those infected.

“Among our scholarship players, we have 18 current positives. We have another three walk-ons who are positive, so a total of 21 current team members, and when you add in those who are quarantined through contact tracing as a result of those positives, in addition to a handful of players who are on the non-COVID injury list, it gives the Gators less than 50 scholarship players available currently. Fortunately, all those who are positive in this instance, including some coaches and some football staff, they seem to be either asymptomatic or only experiencing mild symptoms so that’s obviously a positive right now and hopefully they’ll continue to not have more severe symptoms.”

Interestingly, the two schools have a recent history of game interrupted by forces beyond our control — back in 2016 the two programs switched home games to accommodate Hurricane Matthew’s passing of North Florida.

Notre Dame and Wake Forest rescheduled date announced

The Notre Dame and Wake Forest game that was scheduled for this weekend has been rescheduled. Find out here when the Irish head to Wake!

Notre Dame was supposed to take on Wake Forest at Bank of America Stadium under the umbrella of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Then it was moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to be a true home game for Wake Forest at the end of September.

Now it’s going to still be in Winston-Salem, but much later in the year.

Due to the postponement of this week’s game between Notre Dame and Wake Forest there has been some reshuffling for both squads.

Wake Forest will now play their single out-of-conference game against Campbell on October 2, a week that was previously a bye week for the Demon Deacons.

Notre Dame will now travel to Wake Forest on December 12 to close the regular season in Winston-Salem.

That means that Notre Dame will have played two games, been off for two weeks and then have games scheduled nine weeks in a row with a chance for a tenth if they’re to qualify for the ACC Championship Game.

From what we’ve seen around the ACC so far this year with North Carolina, North Carolina State and Virginia Tech already having to postpone games, it’d seem pretty optimistic to think things will go off without a hitch for 10 straight weeks.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they do, however.
