Games have been routinely postponed due to the lack of available players or uncontrolled spread in the locker room.

On Dec. 27, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention decreased the  recommended quarantine period from 10 days to five days for those who test positive for the virus.

Texas Basketball: TAMU-Corpus Christi game canceled due to COVID-19

The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team was set for a Tuesday afternoon tip off against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi but it has been canceled.

The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team last played against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a 77-74 victory. Their next game was set to take place on Dec. 29 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. That game has now been cancelled due to COVID-19 cases on their side. The cancellation was announced by the Texas athletic department.

The No. 10/10 University of Texas Men’s Basketball home game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 29 has been canceled as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is pausing team activities.

Texas (7-1, 1-0 Big 12 Conference) returns to the court when it travels to play at No. 3/4 Kansas on Saturday, Jan. 2. Tip is set for 11 a.m. Central at Allen Fieldhouse, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

The Longhorns will travel to Lawrence on Jan. 2 and hope to take down the perennial contenders in the Kansas Jayhawks. After the Jayhawks dropped their first game of the year to Gonzaga, they have since won eight-straight games. That includes two top 15 victories over Texas Tech and West Virginia.

The Longhorns will have a week to prepare for their toughest matchup of the season thus far.

Bowl cancellation leaves Army in the dark

The Independence Bowl was canceled on Sunday, leaving Army in the dark and cold while they hope to somehow find another game.

The list of canceled bowl games grew on Sunday as the Independence Bowl was forced to cancel after they could not find an opponent for Army.

The opponent was supposed to come from the Pac-12 Conference but with so many programs from there opting out of bowl season, finding an opponent for Army couldn’t be done.

Army accepted their invitation to the Independence Bowl way back on October 26, after they improved to 6-1 with a win over Mercer.

However, with other bowls having contracts with various conferences, Army now appears to be left out of the bowl season despite finishing the year 9-2.

Just a brutal end to the season for a group of guys who obviously wanted a chance to win their tenth game of the year together.

Army released a statement Sunday saying they’d continue to try and get a bowl game of some kind figured out:

And a brutal turn of events for this poor guy who was so excited just days ago:

Texas Longhorns-Kansas Jayhawks cancelled, regular season officially over

The final game of the season against the Kansas Jayhawks has been canceled. The Texas Longhorns are now dealing with a reported 21 cases.

There had been much speculation leading up to the game against the Kansas Jayhawks as to whether or not the Texas Longhorns would play this game. That speculation has been put to rest.

According to the Big 12 Conference, much like the Oklahoma Sooners-West Virginia Mountaineers matchup, it has been canceled. The game will be ruled a no-contest and the Texas Longhorns finish the season with a 6-3 (5-3) record.

Texas Longhorns atheletic director released the following statement:

We are pausing all football team activities and shutting down the football training facilities to get a COVID-19 spread among our football team under control. We currently have nine student-athletes and 13 staff members who have tested positive this week, all of whom are in self-isolation. An additional 14 student-athletes and 15 staff members have been identified in contact tracing, and per COVID-19 protocols, are in quarantine at this time.

We will continue daily testing, monitor the situation and adhere to all of the medical team’s health and safety protocols as we move forward with an abundance of caution in this situation. We’re extremely disappointed that we won’t be able to play our final regular season game at Kansas this week, but look forward to returning to action four our bowl game in the coming weeks. -Chris Del Conte

Unfortunately for the seniors who won’t return for another season, their final year won’t end with a seventh win in the regular season. The Longhorns will now await to see who they play and at which bowl venue. It will be made official following the College Football Playoffs final rankings. The Longhorns currently sit at No. 20 in the polls.

Now speculation will begin as to which players could return to give another go at the Big 12 Championship run. Also, a question of will Tom Herman return to lead that team.

Next up for the Longhorns will be signing their early signees for the 2021 recruiting cycle on Dec. 16.

What a fitting end to the 2020 college football regular season for the Texas Longhorns.

Canceled college football games for this weekend

Here is the latest list of canceled games for this weekend’s college football slate.

Welcome to Saturday where this year, seemingly anything can happen.

We’re about to go to bed here in the early hours of Saturday morning but wanted to get everyone an updated list as to what games are officially called-off for this week as a couple have been added since mid-week.

Here are the games that have been canceled or postponed in college football this weekend:

Vanderbilt at No. 8 Georgia
No. 14 Northwestern at Minnesota
Kent State at Miami (Ohio)
Maryland at Michigan
Buffalo at Ohio
Houston at SMU

Here’s to hoping by the time I get out of bed on Saturday morning that there aren’t any more cancelations.

Enjoy your Saturday as we’re about to be out of the best kind of them until early next fall.

Notre Dame basketball home opener canceled…again

Notre Dame is now 0-3 in trying to play a home basketball game after their latest cancellation.

The Notre Dame men’s basketball team is now 0-3 in trying to play a home game this season.

The Irish were supposed to open the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday night by playing host to Western Michigan but that game was canceled due to the Broncos having too many players with COVID-19 on their roster.

Previously, Notre Dame was scheduled to host Tennessee this Friday night but that game was canceled last week for the same reason.

As a result Mike Brey took to Twitter in search of an opponent for this weekend and found Purdue Fort Wayne who agreed to come to Notre Dame to play at 11:00 a.m. ET.  However, that game won’t be happening either.

Notre Dame offered the following release on Wednesday evening:

The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball game with Purdue Fort Wayne, scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2020, has been cancelled. The Purdue Fort Wayne basketball program has paused all activities after positive COVID-19 tests.
There is no make up date scheduled at this time.
That makes it 0-3 for the Fighting Irish at Purcell Pavillion this year despite not even taking the court for a game yet this season.
We all knew it would be an especially crazy college basketball season this year but I don’t think any of us thought it’d be quite as crazy as it’s gotten off to for Mike Brey and Notre Dame.
Here’s to hoping Notre Dame’s home game against Ohio State on December 8 is able to go off without a hitch.

Over the last week, we’ve seen a couple of bowl games make the announcements that their annual contests won’t be played at the conclusion of the 2020 college football season.

The Pinstripe Bowl made their cancelation known over the weekend while the Sun Bowl followed suit a few days later.  Now we get word that an annual game out west won’t be played this season as the Las Vegas Bowl has been cancelled for 2020.

The Las Vegas Bowl was set to be played between a Pac-12 team and SEC team this season and was to be played this December.  The SEC and Big Ten are set to alternate a tie-in to the game starting in 2020 and going through 2025.

The Las Vegas Bowl becomes the ninth bowl game to be canceled this post-season, joining the: Bahamas Bowl, Fenway Bowl, Hawaii Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Motor City Bowl, Pinstripe Bowl, Red Box Bowl and Sun Bowl.

As of now the plan is for the Las Vegas Bowl to resume in 2021 and be played for the first time in the new Allegiant Stadium, home to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.

BREAKING: Notre Dame at Wake Forest canceled for Dec. 12

Notre Dame’s regular-season finale at Wake Forest has been called off. The Irish have now officially qualified for the ACC Championship.

Notre Dame’s regular season will now conclude this Saturday as news has just come out that their game at Wake Forest on December 12 has been canceled.

This decision came from the ACC’s Athletic Director football committee who stated they will base qualifying for the ACC Championship Game on a nine-game schedule that the remaining contending teams all will have played.

Those remaining teams include No. 2 Notre Dame, who at 9-0 and with a win over Clemson has now officially clinched their spot in the December 19 title game.

The other two teams who remain in contention are Clemson and Miami who both have played eight conference games to date and despite sharing similar 7-1 conference marks, Clemson holds the tie-breaker over because of their head-to-head result early in the season.

Notre Dame will have the week before the ACC Championship Game off now as Wake Forest will make up their game with Lousiville that day.  Duke will also travel to Florida State in ACC competition now on December 12.

Also worth noting from the ACC’s announcement is that if any game involving Notre Dame, Clemson or Miami were to be called-off this weekend, that game would be rescheduled for December 12.

Notre Dame basketball home opener canceled

Notre Dame was supposed to open their home schedule of the 2020-21 men’s basketball team Wednesday but the game has been called off.

For the second time this calendar year, a Notre Dame vs. Western Michigan athletic contest has been canceled.

Back in the fall, it was the two football teams as Notre Dame joining the ACC and the MAC at the time canceling their season meant they didn’t end up playing on the gridiron.

Now in men’s basketball, the Broncos won’t be making the bus ride south from Kalamazoo on Wednesday because of a lack of available players due to COVID-19.

Notre Dame announced on Tuesday that there is no current plan to reschedule the game that was supposed to be the home opener for the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame’s game on Friday night against Tennessee has also been canceled leaving the Irish to open the home season this coming Saturday morning against Purdue Fort Wayne.

Notre Dame is 0-1 on the young season after falling at Michigan State on Saturday night.
