Justin Scott commitment puts Ohio State back up to No. 2 in nation

Scott is one of four five-star recruits thus far in Ohio State’s class of 2024.

The Ohio State Buckeyes pulled off a recruiting coup this weekend, earning the commitment of St. Ignatius (Ill.) five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott, one of the hottest defensive recruits in the 2024 cycle.

On Sunday night, Scott informed Hayes Fawcett at On3 that he’s committed to playing at Ohio State.

Landing Scott (6-foot-4, 310 pounds) is particularly sweet for the Buckeyes, as he had been favored to commit to Miami. Archrival Michigan, Georgia and Notre Dame were also said to be in the mix. He had offers from 30 schools altogether.

Going by the 247Sports composite rankings, Scott is the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Illinois, third-best at his position and No. 14 nationally in the class of 2024.

Scott is one of four five-star recruits thus far in Ohio State’s class of 2024, which now has 17 hard commits. This group is now ranked No. 2 in the nation, behind Georgia and ahead of Florida and Michigan.

High School Football Recruiting Rankings: Class of 2024 composite

The top 35 high school football recruits from the class of 2024

USA TODAY High School Sports is keeping an eye on the top prospects in the class of 2024 with an early look at the composite recruiting rankings.

Like the class of ’22 and ’23, the elite players in the class of 2024 are an athletic group that features a mix of quarterbacks, backs, receivers, talents in the trenches, and defensive standouts in the secondary and more.

As the recruiting cycle continues to surge, let’s look at the top players in the class based on averages of the recruit’s ranking from the three biggest recruiting services: 247SportsESPN and Rivals

Sooners move into top 20 in On3’s team recruiting rankings after pair of commitments

After the commitments of James Nesta and Dozie Ezukanma, the Oklahoma Sooners moved into the top 20 of the On3 team recruiting rankings for 2024.

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up their first commitments in nearly two months with the pledges of linebacker James Nesta and wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma.

Oklahoma has eight players committed for the 2024 recruiting class, and five are considered blue-chip prospects. The recruiting industry defines a blue-chip recruit as a four- or five-star player. Nesta joins [autotag]Zion Kearney[/autotag], [autotag]Jaydan Hardy[/autotag], [autotag]Jeremiah Newcombe[/autotag] and [autotag]Michael Hawkins[/autotag] as blue-chip prospects.

As the Sooners look to close on several highly regarded prospects, expect to see Oklahoma continue to climb the team recruiting rankings over the next few months. As of Tuesday evening, however, Oklahoma moved into the top 20 in On3’s team recruiting rankings after the pair of commits. After back-to-back top-10 finishes in each of the last two cycles, there’s no reason to believe the Sooners will not be back in the top 10 at the end of the 2024 cycle.

Here’s a look at how the top 25 stack up and where each team ranks compared to their conference foes for the 2024 recruiting cycle after the commitments of James Nesta and Dozie Ezukanma.

Note: Oklahoma is ranked among SEC teams, and USC is ranked among Big Ten teams to reflect their conference home for the 2024 cycle. Noticeably missing from the top 25 is the Texas Longhorns.

Georgia pads 2024 recruiting lead with another blue-chip DL commit

This group now has 19 hard commits and ranks No. 1 in the nation by a huge margin.

Georgia has stomped the college football world over the last two years, largely thanks to their highly-disruptive defensive line. However, most of those DLs have gone on to get drafted by the Eagles, so the Bulldogs will have to keep bringing in talent up front to maintain that dominance. So far, they seem to be up to the challenge.

On Tuesday, Kirby Smart’s staff managed to get another blue-chip piece for that unit. Here’s how Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) four-star defensive lineman Jordan Thomas announced his commitment to Georgia.

Thomas (6-foot-5, 296 pounds) is ranked No. 1 overall in New Jersey, No. 13 at his position and No. 105 nationally in the class of 2024, going by the 247Sports composite rankings.

23 other schools made offers, with Rutgers and South Carolina being the other favorites for Thomas’ commitment.

Georgia’s class of 2024 also recently got a commitment from Mountain View (Ga.) DL Justin Greene, who was recruited by the No. 1 overall prospect in the class, quarterback Dylan Raiola. This group now has 19 hard commits and ranks No. 1 in the nation by a huge margin.

Recruiting Roundup: Notre Dame and Michigan stay hot on the trail over the weekend

Here are all of the latest notable recruitments from around the country.

This past weekend was a relatively quiet one in the high school/college football recruiting race, as not a single four or five-star prospect made a college commitment public knowledge. However, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t talent to be found.

Seven different schools have picked up commitments from three-star recruits over the last several days, with Notre Dame getting two – including the highest-ranked prospect in the bunch. The red-hot Fighting Irish class of 2024 currently ranks third in the nation. Meanwhwhile, top-ranked Michigan continues to stockpile talent – collecting another piece for Jim Harbaugh’s vaunted defense.

Michigan now ranked No. 1 nationally after adding 2 more four-star recruits

Here are the two newest members of the Wolverines’ class of 2024.

A new team is on top of the rankings for the 2024 recruiting cycle. Last week the top spot fell from Georgia to Ohio State. However, yesterday another leader emerged when Michigan got commitments from two four-star prospects, including one of the best players in the state.

Here are the two newest additions to Michigan’s 2024 class.

Adams (Mich.) four-star TE Brady Prieskorn

The headliner here is the local Prieskorn (6-foot-6, 225 pounds), who ranks second overall in the state of Michigan, second among tight ends in his class and No. 56 nationally going by the composite rankings.

Prieskorn adds a potent receiving asset for the Wolverines offense. Last season he caught 19 passes, totaling 516 yards (27.2 yards per reception) and eight touchdowns. He also had offers from 24 other schools, including Michigan State, Penn State and Notre Dame.

Cheshire Academy (CT) four-star DL Jerod Smith

Smith (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) adds another piece to what’s become a factory for producing NFL-caliber defensive linemen at Michigan. According to the composite rankings, Smith is No. 30 at his position, fourth overall in Connecticut and No. 270 nationally in the class.

Twenty-seven programs made offers to Smith, including Notre Dame, Iowa, Kentucky, Texas and Wisconsin.

Michigan’s class of 2024 now has 14 hard commits, led by five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis. Prieskorn is the second-highest ranked recruit in a group that ranks first in the nation, five points ahead of Ohio State.
