Twitter reacts to Commanders’ Week 16 loss to the Jets

It’s safe to say Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein is popular among many Washington fans.

The Washington Commanders had about the worst first half imaginable in Sunday’s 30-28 loss to the New York Jets. Washington was dropping passes, quarterback Sam Howell was struggling, the offensive line had its issues, the defense was terrible, and, well, does that cover everything?

Oh, the special teams certainly weren’t special, and no one can blame Camaron Cheeseman this time.

Ultimately, Washington coach Ron Rivera benched Howell for the second consecutive week. Just as he did last week, Jacoby Brissett came into the game and instantly had the Commanders moving. Brissett led an impressive comeback to give Washington a late lead, but ultimately, Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein drilled a 54-yard field goal, and the Commanders dropped their sixth in a row.

Twitter — or X — was full of emotions on Sunday. There were many Washington fans wanting a loss while still aggravated by such an ugly performance. Some were mad at Howell; others were simply just enjoying the final few weeks of Rivera’s product.

Here are some of the best Twitter reactions from Sunday’s Week 16 loss to the Jets.

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy roasted for asinine Brittany Mahomes take on Twitter

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy was roundly roasted on Twitter for his asinine take on Brittany Mahomes.

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy has never shied away from controversy, and his most recent outburst on Twitter had Kansas City Chiefs fans up in arms.

After Patrick and Brittany Mahomes showed off a loungewear line by “SKIMS,” Portnoy took his opportunity to become part of the dialogue, calling the reigning MVP’s wife “trash.”

The subtext of Portnoy’s comment is of little importance. His unnecessary tweet was seized upon by Chiefs fans and other users of the beleaguered social media site alike as they lashed out at “El Presidente” for his unkind words toward one of the NFL’s most beloved football families.

Some of the responses to Portnoy’s post were made in anger, while others were just happy to dogpile on the polarizing media figure.

One thing is certain, though: Kansas City’s fans weren’t about to let the Barstool founder get away with speaking ill of the Mahomes family online.

Social Media reacts to UNC’s season opening win

Social media reacts to UNC’s season opening win over the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The North Carolina Tar Heels kicked off its season with a 31-17 win against the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Duke’s Mayo Classic.

Before kick-off, UNC announced that the Tar Heels would be without transfer wideout Nate McCollum and defensive back DeAndre Boykins out with a lower-body injury. A team already missing a top transfer in Tez Walker due to eligibility issues tacked on more pressure as Drake Maye would be without two top skill makers on UNC offense.

Despite the hit the Tar Heels took before the game started, the game plan appeared intact, as UNC could create constant drives throughout.

The biggest question was the defense for North Carolina, with significant struggles in the past few seasons, but that was answered early with massive momentum shifts created by the D.

Unsurprisingly, this game brought quite a reaction, with fans pouring in reactions to UNC vs. South Carolina. Let us examine how the fans reacted to the Battle of the Carolinas.

Social media reacts to Stanford, SMU, and Cal joining the ACC

Social media reacts to the breaking news of Standford, SMU, and Cal joining the ACC in 2024.

The ongoing saga of college conferences doing a shake-up continues, with the Atlantic Coast Conference welcoming Stanford, SMU, and Cal to the conference in 2024.

The decision has been looming for weeks, as programs, coaches, players, and fans gave their input on the move as many pondered what the ACC would look like adding distant teams to the conference. In a press release from the school, Chancellor Kevin M. Guskiewicz responded to the decision to bring the three programs to the conference.

“I respect the outcome of today’s vote and welcome our new members to the ACC,” Guskiewicz said. “My vote against expansion was informed from feedback I have gathered over the last several weeks from our athletic leadership, coaches, faculty athletic advisors, student-athletes and a variety of other stakeholders who care deeply about our University and the success of our outstanding athletic program. I look forward to working with all our colleagues in the ACC to ensure excellence in academics and athletics – something our conference has long been known for. ”

There is no denying this addition to the ACC will serve implications. Travel and scheduling will become more challenging, leaving fans to think twice about road games. However, with the bad, there is some good, with exciting new rivals on the horizon while adding more respect to the conference.

The New Orleans Saints got the outcome they were after on Sunday as they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers, 22-17.

Among the biggest standouts of the game was rookie quarterback Jake Haener, who greatly built upon the foundation he had set in his first preseason outing.

Haener showed improvement injury his decision-making and overall rhythm in the offense, continuing to display the same type of moxie and toughness that has earned him respect from this fan base so early on despite a few misfires as he continues to work through the rookie transition,

He finished out the victory 11-of-17 passing for 118 yards and will look to finish out the preseason undefeated when the Saints face the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Here’s a look at what people had to say about the performance the former Fresno State signal-caller put on Sunday:

The LSU Tigers baseball team was crowned the champions of the 2023 College World Series on Monday night, capping off an exciting run with an 18-4 win over the Florida Gators in Omaha, Neb.

It was exactly what the team needed after it gave up an MCWS record of 24 runs in Game 2 as the Tigers came back in the winner-take-all contest to put on one of their best offensive performances over recent times.

LSU alum and current New Orleans Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu, who attended games in Omaha, was among the many who took to Twitter to congratulate his alma mater.

“All of Tiger Nation is proud! We will remember you guys for as long as the sun sets in the western sky,” he wrote.

Just as much as this team will be remembered by the LSU faithful, so is Mathieu, who will forever be a legend at a school famous for massive success in every sport. Mathieu finished out his LSU career with 136 combined tackles (96 solo), six sacks, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions.

Twitter reacts to the Saints’ selection of Bryan Bresee with No. 29 pick

2023 NFL draft: Best Twitter reactions to the Saints’ selection of Bryan Bresee with the No. 29 pick

The pick is in, and the New Orleans Saints have selected former Clemson Tigers defensive tackle Bryan Bresee with their pick in Round 1 of the 2023 NFL draft. Bresee (6-foot-5, 298 pounds) is a rare athlete for someone his size with experience lining up all over the defensive front, though he’s been at his best rushing against guards from the three-technique alignment.

He’s also overcome a lot of adversity to get here, ranging from health struggles to the tragic passing of his teenaged sister Ella. Now that he’s turning pro, Bresee is hoping for things to settle down around him so he can focus on staying healthy and productive on the field. The Saints will be counting on him. Here’s what fans and media analysts had to say after the pick came in on Thursday night:

Sean Payton says ‘zero truth’ to reported friction with Broncos ownership

Sean Payton says ‘zero truth’ to reported friction with Broncos ownership, describes meeting as ‘fantastic’

The spiciest Sean Payton subplot just keeps giving. The Washington Post’s Mark Maske reported Thursday that the former New Orleans Saints coach left his recent meeting with Denver Broncos brass fearing “a potential power struggle” with one of the team’s new owners, only for Payton to turn around rebuff it from his official Twitter account.

“Zero truth to this,” Payton wrote Thursday evening. “We had a great visit and Broncos Ownership was fantastic!!”

Maybe Maske’s sources were mistaken. Maybe Payton is trying to save face. Whatever the case, the sweepstakes surrounding the ex-Saints coach is still ongoing. Payton met with the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday after speaking with the Broncos and Carolina Panthers (who named Frank Reich their new coach on Thursday, too — it’s been a busy newsday) earlier this week. The second round of interviews are kicking off around the league and it remains to be seen whether Payton will get a callback, so stay tuned.
