Seahawks re-sign defensive back Damarious Randall on Friday

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed defensive back Damarious Randall to the roster. The plan is to move him over to the cornerback position.

The Seattle Seahawks continue to plug away with free agency signings, re-inking defensive back Damarious Randall to the roster on Friday morning.

Randall was originally selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Arizona State, where he played safety. He spent three seasons in Green Bay as a cornerback before he was traded to the Browns and moved back to the safety position.

After some time with the Raiders, Randall was signed to the Seahawks practice squad before he was promoted to the active roster. He played in 10 games in 2020, mostly on special teams.

Seattle plans to move Randall back to the cornerback spot once again.

Carlos Dunlap re-signed with Seahawks because he saw Wilson as his QB

Defensive end Carlos Dunlap said he re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks because he saw Russell Wilson as his quarterback this season.

The Seattle Seahawks weren’t the only team interested in signing defensive end Carlos Dunlap to their roster this season, the veteran said there were other clubs courting him too.

“A lot of teams showed interest, but only the true competitors really actually made offers,” Dunlap told reporters Tuesday via his Zoom press conference. “But Seattle is where I wanted to be, so when the offer came from Seattle, I could tell you this . . . the deal was done within 24 hours from when they offered me to me signing.”

Part of the reason things proceeded so quickly was due to quarterback Russell Wilson. Dunlap said he wanted assurances Wilson would be a Seahawk this season before signing his new deal to stay in Seattle.

“I did ask him if, obviously, he was going to be with us, because if I’m coming back, I’m coming back because I see him as my quarterback, and the rest of the team, I want to pick up where we left off,” Dunlap explained. “And he told me he’s with us and he’s here to stay, and he said, ‘Let’s go, Hawks.’

“I’m not going to quote his every word – these words are not his words verbatim, but these are my explanation of how I interpreted what he said.”

Regardless of Wilson’s exact words, Dunlap agreed to his two-year contract with the understanding Wilson would remain his quarterback.

The new deal will keep Dunlap in the Emerald City for two more years.

“Year 12 with the 12’s! -Damn Dunlap the Passion Continues…” Dunlap tweeted.

This news comes just an hour after the report Seattle will be moving on from defensive tackle Jarran Reed. The Seahawks did make the signing of former 49ers defensive end Kerry Hyder official as well.

Center Ethan Pocic staying in Seattle on 1-year deal worth $3M

Seattle Seahawks starting center Ethan Pocic will be staying in the Emerald City on a one-year deal worth $3 million.

The Seattle Seahawks will have their starting center back for the 2021 season. Seattle is re-signing Ethan Pocic to a one-year deal worth $3 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Pocic, originally a guard, stepped in as Seattle’s starter at center replacing Justin Britt last season. He played in 14 regular-season games, missing two due to a concussion.

The Seahawks also tendered backup Kyle Fuller, who could compete for the position.

Seattle is under pressure to appease quarterback Russell Wilson, who has been outspoken with regards to his concerns over the Seahawks’ offensive line play.

The team did trade with the Raiders for guard Gabe Jackson, who should add some oomph to the line this season.

Lions activate Everson Griffen from reserve/COVID-19, Danny Shelton returns to practice

The Detroit Lions have activated EDGE Everson Griffen from reserve/COVID-19 and Nose Tackle Danny Shelton returns to practice but remains on injured reserve for the time being.

The Detroit Lions are getting some help on the defensive line. A day after activating JACK Julian Okwara from injured reserve, they announced that they have also activated EDGE Everson Griffen from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Additionally, Nose Tackle Danny Shelton, who is still on injured reserve, has returned to practice and is eligible to be activated to the 53-man roster at any time.

Griffen announced on social media that he tested positive for COVID-19, and 11 days after the team placed him on the reserve list, he has been medically cleared and is eligible to return to practice.

No additional roster move was required at this time because Griffen has a roster exemption, but in order for him to play on Saturday, a corresponding move from the 53-man roster would be required.

Shelton was placed on injured reserve three weeks ago, has completed the required time on short-term IR, and is now eligible to return to the team. As Shelton is also technically still on IR, he also does not take up a spot on the 53-man roster, and when he is ready to play, a corresponding roster move would be required.

One final housekeeping note: running back Dalyn Dawkins has been added to the practice squad for his fourth stint with the team.

Detroit Lions sign Isaac Nauta to active roster, release Bo Scarbrough

The Detroit Lions announced they have re-signed tight end Isaac Nauta to the active roster and released running back Bo Scarbrough in a corresponding move.

The Detroit Lions announced they have re-signed tight end Isaac Nauta to the active roster and released running back Bo Scarbrough in a corresponding move.

After spending his rookie season on the 53-man roster, Nauta opened this season on the practice squad. Each week, the Lions have elected to protect Nauta from being poached by another team, and over the last two games, they have elevated him to the active roster — both new rules put in place due to COVID-19.

While the new rules have allowed Nauta to stay busy in 2020, he has exhausted his elevation eligibility — players are only allowed to be elevated twice — and with the Lions desire to keep him involved in the Lions offense, they needed to sign him to the active roster in order to have him available on game days.

After yesterday’s announcement that the Lions were bringing back Jonathan Williams, — who is still working his way through the onboarding process and should join the team next week — it was obvious a shakeup was coming in the running backs room.

Scarbrough spent most of the season on injured reserve, but was cleared for action last week, and elevated to the active roster. Less than a day later, he was declared a healthy scratch on game day, raising some concerns about his involvement moving forward. Now, a week later, he is released to make room for Nauta.

If Scarbrough clears waivers — which no Lions’s running back has done this year — it’s very likely he will be brought back and placed on the Lions practice squad.

One other housekeeping note: with Nauta being signed off the practice squad, a spot opened up and the Lions filled it with defensive tackle Albert Huggins, who is now in his third stint with the team.

Seahawks re-sign WR Josh Gordon, who is waiting on reinstatement

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed wide receiver Josh Gordon, who is waiting on reinstatement from violating the NFL’s drug policies.

Veteran wide receiver Josh will once again play for the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle and Gordon have already worked out a deal he has signed for as soon as he is reinstated into the National Football League. David Canter, Gordon’s agent, tweeted the news Thursday morning.

Gordon was on Seattle’s roster for five games last season before he was suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse and performance-enhancing drug policies after testing positive for a banned substance and a masking agent. He was then suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

He submitted his application for reinstatement in June and it is going “very well,” per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Gordon must be reinstated before he can play this season.

Gordon started one of five games played for the Seahawks in 2019 and logged seven receptions for 139 yards.

This story is continuing to develop.

Lions place FB Nick Bawden on IR, re-sign NT Olive Sagapolu

The Detroit Lions announced that they have placed fullback Nick Bawden on injured reserve and re-signed nose tackle Olive Sagapolu.

The Detroit Lions announced that they have placed fullback Nick Bawden on injured reserve and re-signed nose tackle Olive Sagapolu.

This is the third time in three seasons Bawden has been placed on injured reserve, and the second time he landed there during training camp — the other being his rookie season. Bawden’s first two stints on injured reserve were ACL injuries, but it’s unclear at this time what injury he is dealing with.

The Lions competition at fullback appears to be over and they will now turn to converted linebacker Jason Cabinda, who made the transition earlier in training camp and has thrived. The only competition Cabinda will face will be roster construction, but he has made a strong case to make the 53-man roster.

“Sagapolu returns to the Lions after spending a portion of training camp with the team,” the Lions said in a press release. “He originally signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Wisconsin following the 2019 NFL Draft before joining Detroit’s practice squad late last season.”

Seahawks re-sign receiver Seth Dawkins and running back Patrick Carr

The Seattle Seahawks re-signed wide receiver Seth Dawkins and running back Patrick Carr, who were both waived in July ahead of training camp.

The Seattle Seahawks executed a pair of roster moves on Friday, re-signing a couple of players the team had waived just last month.

Wide receiver Seth Dawkins and running back Patrick Carr are both now back on Seattle’s active roster.

Dawkins and Carr had both initially signed with the Seahawks in May as undrafted rookie free agents.

Seattle now only has one spot open on the 80-man roster.
