We’re into the second day of the 2020 NFL Combine drills, which you can stream live on FuboTV. Today will be the running backs, offensive linemen and special teams players all strutting their stuff on the field at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The first day saw the quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends run through the gauntlet. While there was no new fastest 40-yard dash time set with Henry Ruggs III running it in 4.27 seconds, today’s group has some players who could be a threat to the record. John Ross set the current fastest 40-yard dash back in 2017 with a 4.22-second time but keep an eye out for Louisiana running back Raymond Calais and Western Michigan running back LeVante Bellamy as potential record setters.

In today’s group, another standout could very well be Arizona State punter Michael Turk, who put up 25 reps on the bench press yesterday — beating 86 of the 109 total prospects to lift so far. With a shocking display already on record, who knows what Turk will end up doing with the rest of the drills.

The 2020 NFL Combine could also help decide how many running backs end up going in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Many pundits have both Georgia’s D’Andre Swift and Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor going in the first round but a bad performance could drop the group down while an impressive showing could have the top back go off the board quickly.

These 11 players could see their stock soar at the scouting combine based on their ability to ace the athletic tests.

INDIANAPOLIS — People in and out of the NFL have denigrated the scouting combine drills as the “Underwear Olympics” for years, but those same people are sure on hand when it comes time for prospects to go through those drills every year. And yes, draft decisions are made on a guy’s 40-yard-dash time, broad jump, and bench press numbers more than some would have you believe.

There are a number of new drills this year, created and enacted to more closely mirror the on-field experience. Whether it’s old-school or new-wave stuff, here are 11 prospects who could really stand out at the 2020 combine.

Jordan Love, QB, Utah State

Some evaluators have Love, who experienced an efficiency downturn in 2019 with 17 interceptions against 20 touchdown passes after a 32-touchdown, six-interception 2018, as a possible Next Patrick Mahomes based on his arm strength and athleticism. I believe there are too many legitimate questions about Love’s mechanics and overall form to make such comparisons just yet, but there’s absolutely no question that Love can sling the ball around. In the friendly confines of Lucas Oil Stadium, where he’ll be throwing different routes without any defensive pressure, Love could make a great impression on scouts, coaches, and personnel people who are already halfway to making that comparison in their minds.

“The most important thing to be is to be more consistent,” Love said this week about his own game. “You watch my film, there are some plays where I make an incredible throw, and the next thing you know, I miss a swing route on a checkdown. Being more consistent in all my throws, my footwork, in the pocket, under center, doing dropbacks and things like that. It’s something I’ve practiced since the season ended.”

Love should reap the benefits of that practice in the quarterback drills.

2. These teams hooked up Oct. 9 in Lafayette and it was surprisingly a defensive battle, going in favor of App State by a 17-7 count. The total on that game was set at 69.5.

3. The Ragin’ Cajuns rank eighth the nation in total yards (500.3) and 12th in points scored (38.8). The Mountaineers rank 18th in the country in rushing yards (226.0) and 11th in points scored (38.9).

App State (-223) is a little too expensive for a battle between two 10-win teams. While the Mountaineers are at home, remember, they fell to Georgia Southern in Boone last month. The Ragin’ Cajuns (+180) have some tremendous weapons in QB Levi Lewis and RB Elijah Mitchell, and this game really could go either way if the turnover battle is heavily skewed in one direction.

Against the Spread (ATS)

PASS. App State (-6.5, -110) is a tempting play at less than a touchdown, but Louisiana (+6.5, -110) has the horses to either win this one outright, or make it a one-possession game. The Mountaineers won their final three games by a combined 86 points, but that was against the dregs of the SBC and not a quality team like Louisiana. My lean would be with the Cajuns, ever so slightly, but I am not playing it.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 56.5 (-115) is your best bet if you’re looking to play the SBC title game. These teams each have explosive running backs capable of housing it every time. Evans and Mitchell have combined for 34 total touchdowns, but there are other players capable of big plays, too, including Ragas and RB Raymond Calais for ULL, and QB Zac Thomas and WR Thomas Hennigan for App State.
