Brooklyn suffered an embarrassing opening season loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, with inefficiency on offense and a lack of leadership on the hardwood. Kevin Durant was the team’s leading scorer and started the game cold from the floor.

The Toronto Raptors squeezed out a win in their season opener at home against a Cleveland Cavaliers team full of weapons. The game had 16 lead changes and the Raptors had an impressive 18 second-chance points. Cleveland didn’t help their cause when they piled on 17 turnovers and guard Darius Garland left the game with an injury.

It was announced that sharpshooter Joe Harris is expected to be playing in the Nets matchup against Toronto. The team will have their hands full with young defensive talent Scottie Barnes.

Following the team’s loss guard Kyrie Irving has vowed to work to become a better leader in Brooklyn’s locker room.

Kevin Durant to Celtics trade? This is what it would look like

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Celtics have emerged as a suitor for Kevin Durant. Last month when Durant publicly requested a trade, we took a look at potential teams that could be interested in him and pointed out how he would be the best player in the modern era to be traded since Shaquille O’Neal. After the Utah Jazz received four first-round picks for Rudy Gobert, that likely now serves as somewhat of a floor for the type of return the Nets would demand for Durant.

All-Star forward Jaylen Brown is reportedly the centerpiece of the Celtics’ package, which alone should make Brooklyn extremely interested. We take a look at what a potential deal could look like and what it would mean for both Boston and Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Nets not tempted with Tyler Herro-based trade for Kevin Durant

The Nets are not interested in a Tyler Herro-based trade package.

Miami Heat guard Max Strus talked a little about Kevin Durant joining the team with hope, but there are reports that the team is uninterested in a trade package revolving around Tyler Herro.

South Florida reporter Barry Jackson reports that the Nets are uninterested in a trade package for Durant that revolves around Sixth Man of the Year, Herro. Jackson said that the only chance for Durant to land in Miami is for Durant to insist that he land in Miami.

Durant won’t be traded unless the Nets feel that they’re receiving an All-Star or two and a slate of draft picks. The Timberwolves’ trade with Rudy Gobert inflated the trade market this offseason.

Watch: Bald eagle attempts to fly off with pet Yorkie

A Yorkshire terrier has survived a terrifying ordeal involving a bald eagle intent on making a meal of the pooch.

A Yorkshire terrier has survived a terrifying ordeal involving a bald eagle intent on making a meal of the pooch.

The accompanying footage, captured by a doorbell camera in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, shows the Yorkie, named Coco, crying out as a shadow appears overhead and the eagle swoops down to grab her from a porch.

Justin Dudoward, the dog owner, told FTW Outdoors that he did not witness the predation event, which occurred last Thursday. “I just heard her cries,” he said of Coco.

The eagle bangs into a container as it attempts to take flight, as Coco bawls.

But the large raptor would leave empty-handed. Coco reappears in front of the camera at 12 seconds, running toward the house. Dudoward said she was uninjured.

The footage might serve as a reminder, however, that coyotes and mountain lions are not the only threats to small dogs left outside.

Although bald eagles prey mostly on fish, they’ll attack birds, reptiles, amphibians, rabbits, muskrats, and other small mammals.

Aggregate NBA mock draft 7.0: Ousmane Dieng moves into lottery, Jalen Williams top 20; trade talks

The NBA Draft is less than a week away, with more potential big trades on the horizon following the Christian Wood acquisition by the Dallas Mavericks, as noted throughout our new HoopsHype aggregate mock draft.

To get a better projection of where all of the projected top prospects stand currently, we compiled mock drafts from ESPN, The Athletic, Bleacher Report, The Ringer, Sports Illustrated, NBADraft.net, CBS Sports, SB Nation, Yahoo, Basketball News, and USA TODAY’s For The Win.

The most notable risers within the projected lottery selections included Dyson Daniels moving up further within the top 10 picks, Ousmane Dieng becoming a projected lottery pick, and Jalen Williams vaulting into the Top 20 range. Jake LaRavia and Dalen Terry, two of the biggest risers throughout the draft process, have moved into the late first round.

Other risers in the second round include Ryan Rollins, Andrew Nembhard, David Roddy, John Butler, Michael Foster, Gabriele Procida, and Dereon Seabron.

The notable name that fell was MarJon Beauchamp, who now is projected outside the top 20 picks despite receiving a green room invite. Josh Minott and Jean Montero were among those whose stock fell in the second round.

NOTE: These rankings reflect the composite score to get a feel for the overall consensus, not our own opinion. For example, if a player was the first pick on a publication’s mock draft, he received 58 points. If a player was second, he received 57 points and so on. We then tabulated the total number of points for each player’s consensus ranking.

Joel Embiid isn’t mad at Pascal Siakam for his injury, but he sure does still seem mad at Raptors fans

Fans need to be better about this stuff.

Joel Embiid has a lot of reasons to be upset right now. He missed the first two games of the 76ers 2nd round series against the Miami Heat because of an elbow to the face by Pascal Siakam at the end of Game 6 in the first round.

That elbow is the reason why he’s wearing a mask now and is the reason why the 76ers’ playoff hopes have been hampered a bit in the first place. And the elbow didn’t even have to happen.

But Embiid doesn’t seem to be mad about it at all. He was asked about it after his return to the lineup in Game 3 against the Heat and he still says Pascal Siakam is “my guy.”

But who he does seem to be mad at are the Raptors fans that cheered after he was injured.

I don’t think [Pascal] meant to do it. But, you know, I was more irritated by the perception of when that happened by really the fans. And I’ve always thought they have great fans, but I kind of changed my mind about, you know, the fans up there.”

Embiid has good reason to feel that way. After he took that elbow from Siakam, fans in Toronto were cheering about it because he’d done an airplane celebration on the possession before.

It was a bad scene all around but hearing fans cheer like that is certainly not what you’d like to see after someone gets elbowed in the face.

This isn’t indicative of the entire Raptors’ fan base, obviously. But this certainly isn’t a good look for Raptors fans at all. It reminds you of the 2019 Finals when they cheered after Kevin Durant’s injury as well. And that turned out to be a torn Achilles tendon.

Obviously, Raptors fans didn’t know Embiid was hurt in this manner. But still. Cheering for physical violence like this in the middle of a basketball game is completely out of bounds.

Embiid is absolutely right to feel the way he does. Fans need to chill out.
