Jay Harper, a three-star class of 2024 cornerback from Valley, Alabama, committed to Wisconsin on Monday. The 6-foot, 165-pound athlete will join Luke Fickell’s football team in Madison following the conclusion of his senior year at Valley High School in 2024.

Harper selected the Badgers over 12 other Division 1 offers and an offer from HBCU Tuskegee University. The cornerback decided to join head coach Luke Fickell and his defensive coordinator Mike Tressel’s system in Madison, which churned out NFL talents Sauce Gardner and Coby Bryant at cornerback in their time at Cincinnati.

With his commitment, Harper became the fourth secondary player to pick Wisconsin for the class of 2024, joining three-star safeties Kahmir Prescott (Philadelphia, PA) and Raphael Dunn (Lawrenceville, NJ) as well as three-star cornerback Vernon Woodward (Winter Park, FL).

Rutgers football: With four official visits locked in, Raphael Dunn is not done with his recruiting plans

Raphael Dunn is set for four official visits in June.

Raphael Dunn has four official visits lined up as the New Jersey prospect plans to likely carry his recruitment into the fall.

Dunn, a safety for The Lawrenceville School (Lawrenceville, N.J.), is an intriguing prospect. At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, he could either be a safety or a linebacker at the next level.

He could even grow into being an edge rusher in the right system.

Ranked a three-star and the No. 19 recruit in the nation per 247Sports, Dunn caught fire on the recruiting circuit following February offers from Vanderbilt and Rutgers.

“So far I would say lately Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and Virginia have been recruiting me the hardest. Rutgers is a school that is always there too,” Dunn told Rutgers Wire.

“They send me and my parents letters all the time.

“My recruitment has been very cool. It kind of all started all of a sudden. It felt like one school offered and then I got four or five in a week. I’m super happy and grateful to have all the schools offer me. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of and wanted. Even to be ranked is amazing. I was recently ranked nationally on 247Sports and have been ranked on On3.”

Dunn’s recruitment took off shortly after Rutgers offered in late February. He was recently on campus in late March.

He said that Virginia, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin and Kentucky will all get visits in June. He is eyeing up more visits in September.

One of those programs might be Rutgers. The in-state program is doing well in his recruitment, with Dunn saying that “Rutgers is amazing. The coaching staff is really cool.”

“I hope Rutgers gives me one. I’d love to go back. But even if I don’t go back they are still on my top list of schools I’m interested in,” Dunn said of an official visit to Rutgers. “I had a great unofficial and saw a lot about the school and people.”

Three-star safety from New Jersey receives offer from Badgers

Wisconsin offered Raphael Dunn, a three-star class of 2025 safety from Lawrenceville, New Jersey on Sunday.

Wisconsin offered Raphael Dunn, a three-star class of 2025 safety from Lawrenceville, New Jersey on Sunday. The 6-foot-4, 200 pound athlete still has one more year of high school football, but he could be making a decision of his commitment in the near future.

Dunn has now received eight Division 1 offers, with Wisconsin joining Michigan State and Rutgers as the third Big Ten team to offer. Kentucky is the current favorite to land him and he’s set to visit Lexington in June.

Head coach Luke Fickell and defensive coordinator Mike Tressel have taken over the defense in Madison after many years at Cincinnati and a big-bodied safety like Dunn would be a great addition to the class of 2024 if they can pull it off.

Raphael Dunn details new Rutgers football offer: ‘I was super excited’

Raphael Dunn talks about being offered by Rutgers football on Tuesday night.

A 6-foot-4, 200-pound safety from the Lawrenceville School (Lawrenceville, N.J.), Rutgers joins Vanderbilt as Dunn’s other Power Five offer. He also holds offers from UPenn and Temple.

Last season, the class of 2024 recruit had 68 total tackles along with eight passes defended and four interceptions (two Pick-6s). The Big Red finished the season 9-2, winning their final five games.

The offer from Rutgers was an exciting one for Dunn, who said he was thrilled when he finally got on the phone Tuesday night with assistant coach [autotag]Mark Orphey[/autotag] (safeties coach) and head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag].

“I’m super happy with the offer because of the program they have built,” Dunn told Rutgers Wire.

He said that on the call, he felt welcomed by the staff. In particular, Orphey, who would be Dunn’s coach were he to commit to Rutgers, made the recruit “feel like knew him for years.”

The value of the Rutgers degree, Dunn said, is also appealing.

Dunn details the call and how the offer came in on Tuesday night.

“I was sitting in my cafeteria when coach Orphey called me and scheduled to speak with him later that day at 6:15,” Dunn said.

“I was super excited as to have an opportunity to play for Rutgers. I was nervous the whole day but when he called I wasn’t nervous. We were talking about Rutgers and it felt right. He brought to me coach Schiano and we started talking about culture and how I could add to it. When coach Schiano offered me, I was super excited. All I could think about was how I could add to the culture.”
