A look at Seahawks’ injury situation ahead of wild card vs. Eagles

The Seattle Seahawks are hoping a number of players are able to return from injury for the wild-card playoff against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Seattle Seahawks could possibly see the return of a couple of injured players in time to face the Eagles in Philadelphia for the wild-card round on Sunday.

Coach Pete Carroll provided a number of injury updates to start the workweek.

Safety Quandre Diggs, who was inactive with an ankle sprain the last two outings, has resumed practice. There is no guarantee Diggs will be ready to play on Sunday but his return to the field is a step in the right direction.

Wide receiver Malik Turner sat out last week with a concussion but could also be available against the Eagles. “He’s got some tests to do today to get cleared for tomorrow,” Carroll said. “Everything is trending towards he’s going to be back, but I say that, and he’s got a meeting here right now that he’s got to perform in and show that he’s okay.”

Left tackle Duane Brown, fresh off minor knee surgery, is more of a long shot to be ready by this weekend. “He’s working at it,” Carroll explained. “He’s trying to get back. He’s going for it. We’ll see what he can do. I don’t know anything right now. There’s nothing he’s done on the field yet.”

Carroll believes defensive end Jadeveon Clowney should be ready to roll despite not participating on Wednesday. “He’s fine,” Carroll noted. “Well, he’s practicing and going. He’s doing the best he can so he’s ready to go again.”

Seattle and Philadelphia are scheduled to kick off at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Dennis Schroder questionable with right ankle soreness against Mavericks

Schroder missed Sunday’s win over the Raptors due to right ankle soreness. He is averaging 25.4 points over his last five games.

Dennis Schroder’s status for the Thunder’s 2019 calendar year finale is still uncertain.

Schroder is listed as questionable for Oklahoma City’s game on New Year’s Eve against the Mavericks.

Schroder missed Sunday’s win over the Raptors due to a sore right ankle. It was the first game that he had missed all season.

How he suffered the injury in Friday’s game against the Hornets is still unclear. Prior to injuring his ankle, Schroder had averaged 25.4 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds over his last five games.

Schroder has been an integral part of the Oklahoma City offense this season, embracing his role as the one of, if not the, best sixth man in the league.

Over his last ten games, Schroder is averaging 23.2 points per game and shooting 49.7% from the field.

He was named the Western Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 23 for his play during Oklahoma City’s four-game win streak from Dec. 16 through Dec. 22.

The Thunder will tip against inside Chesapeake Energy Arena at 7 p.m. against the Dallas Mavericks.

Tuesday night is Oklahoma City’s lone home game before they head back out for a four-game road trip.

Ziggy Ansah, Jadeveon Clowney both game-day decisions for Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks defensive ends Ziggy Ansah and Jadeveon Clowney will both be game-day Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Seattle Seahawks had a solid week of practice ahead of the Sunday night matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

“We got out on the grass and got running around,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday afternoon. “We had to put together a week that’s a little adapted because of the shorter week. It seemed like things worked out fine. We were able to get some guys recovered. That’s one of the big questions and I think we got that done. Looking forward to it. Ready to go.”

A couple of players remains question marks for Sunday, however, including defensive ends Ziggy Ansah and Jadeveon Clowney, who are both battling injuries.

“We’ll still check those guys both out,” Carroll said. “They did practice enough this week that we feel good about it. We got to check them out on gameday.”

Clowney (core) was listed as a full participant in Friday’s practice, while Ansah (neck) was limited.

The Seahawks and Rams are set to kick off from Los Angeles Sunday night at 5:20 p.m. PT. You can find everything you need to know to catch the action here.

Terron Armstead injured, questionable to return vs. Panthers

New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead injured his ankle and is questionable to return to play versus the Carolina Panthers.

[jwplayer 2kZ1kNtl]

The New Orleans Saints offensive line took another hit early against the Carolina Panthers, with left tackle Terron Armstead injured his ankle during the first quarter. Armstead walked off the field slowly under his own power before riding a medical staff cart into the locker room. An announcement from the team updated his status as questionable to return to the game.

In his place, the Saints called up veteran  backup Patrick Omameh, who has spent most of his time in the NFL at left or right guard. The Saints were already starting a backup next to Armstead in Nick Easton, who was filling in for injured starter Andrus Peat. Ironically, Peat is normally the go-to option to replace Armstead, but he’s going to be out about four more weeks after breaking his arm against the Atlanta Falcons.

This injury to Armstead has been one of the few problem areas on offense for the Saints against Carolina. They have otherwise avoided mistakes and converted on tough downs, ending two of their first three drives with touchdown scores (including a 26-yard run by Latavius Murray and a 13-yard pass to Tre’Quan Smith). That third drive ended with a punt, which the Saints were fortunate to recover.

Armstead’s status is officially questionable to return, so he hasn’t been ruled out entirely. Stay tuned for an update to his situation.

Seattle did not rule out any players ahead of the matchup, nor was anyone listed as doubtful. Only safety Lano Hill (elbow) and guard Phil Haynes (ankle) were noted as questionable to play.

“One thing I can tell you, we can’t talk about hamstrings and ankles today because we’re in pretty good shape here,” coach Pete Carroll said following Saturday’s walkthrough. Only a couple guys on the list. We can cut all that stuff out and just go right to whatever you want to know.”
