2020 NFL Draft: Seattle Seahawks attend Kansas State’s Pro Day

The Seattle Seahawks had scouts in attendance at Kansas State’s Pro Day, likely evaluating receiver Dalton Schoen.

The NFL combine is over, giving the Seattle Seahawks and the rest of the league a chance to evaluate the athleticism and size of 337 NFL draft hopefuls.

However, there are more players who could find their way into the draft – or at least training camp as an undrafted free agent – which is why many colleges host a Pro Day every year on campus, to give some of their less heralded guys a chance to shine.

Kansas State has been putting players in the NFL with regularity for the last few years, yet none of their players from last year’s squad were invited to the combine.

That didn’t stop a ton of scouts from coming out to the school’s Pro Day on Wednesday, with the Seahawks reportedly among the team’s in attendance.

The Seahawks are always among the most aggressive teams in the late rounds and on the undrafted market – making it no surprise they’d want to see some of the talent who didn’t make the combine.

Among the standouts for Kansas State were receiver Dalton Schoen, who ran a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash, and offensive lineman Nick Kaltmayer, who repped 18 on the bench press.

The Seahawks will likely be at as many Pro Day events as possible over the next six weeks as they prepare to bring on as much potential talent as they can heading into training camp and the 2020 season.

Auburn’s pro day about more than just Derrick Brown for the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions will be checking out several 2020 NFL Draft prospects at Auburn’s Pro Day on March 6

The Auburn Tigers are hosting their prospect pro day on Friday, March 6. The Detroit Lions applied for credentials and are expected to have a contingent in Alabama to check out several future NFL players on hand.

Derrick Brown gets all the headlines, but the defensive tackle is not the only Tigers player the Lions should have an interest in drafting in 2020. Brown figures to be a consideration for the team’s first-round pick, particularly if Detroit is able to engineer a trade back a few spots from the No. 3 overall position they currently sit.

Brown’s linemate, Marlon Davidson, is a Day 2 prospect with a lot of juice and personality. He stood out at the Senior Bowl practices on the South roster (the Lions coached the North) before being shut down with a minor injury. Davidson didn’t do the full combine workout, and the Lions will be interested in how the four-year starter tests in the explosion drills (broad jump, vertical jump). He plays both inside and out at 303 pounds, a good fit for how the Lions deploy their D-linemen.

Cornerback Noah Igbinoghene is another potential Day 2 pick for the Lions…if he lasts to the second round. The son of two Olympic sprinters, Igbinoghene (pronounced IG-bin-OG-a-nee) is a converted wide receiver who took a big step in his defensive mindset in 2019. He loves to press and get into the faces and chests of receivers, and his turn-and-run gear can keep up with just about anyone. He needs work on his lower-body technique, but showed real improvement as 2019 progressed.

Another CB, Javaris Davis, fits the exact profile the Lions desire in the slot. He’s plucky, physical, tackles well and has excellent top-end speed. He raised his stock with a good Senior Bowl week and is considered a 5th-6th round talent.

Chiefs attend Kansas State pro day

The Kansas City Chiefs have started their tour of NFL pro days.

The pro day circuit has officially kicked off for NFL teams.

Scouts, coaches and even general managers will travel around the country attending various pro days for different universities. If you’re unfamiliar, a pro day is essentially a miniature NFL combine held by schools with draft-eligible players. They’ll go through all the same measured testing and several on-field workouts that they would if they attended the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Kansas City Chiefs got their tour started with a trip down I-70 to Manhattan, Kansas. There they were able to visit the Kansas State pro day and view the 2020 NFL draft prospects. Kansas State was one of the teams that didn’t have any players at the combine.

According to Herbie Teope of the Kansas City Star, there were a total of 18 teams in attendance for the pro day, including the Chiefs.

A total of twelve Wildcats participated in the pro day at Kansas State.

  • P Devin Anctil
  • RB Jordon Brown
  • DT Trey Dishon
  • OT Scott Frantz
  • RB James Gilbert
  • OL Nick Kaltmayer
  • DB Kevion McGee
  • LB Da’Quan Patton
  • DB Darreyl Patterson
  • WR Dalton Schoen
  • DE Reggie Walker
  • DB Eli Walker

One player, in particular, had a standout performance in front of NFL scouts. According to Yahoo Sports’ Terez Paylor, WR Dalton Schoen weighed in just under 6-feet-1 and 206 pounds. He also ran a 40-yard dash between 4.44 and 4.48.

I’m told that Schoen also added 15 repetitions on the bench press and had a vertical jump of 35 inches.

The Chiefs added former Kansas State WR Byron Pringle in undrafted free agency following the 2018 NFL Draft. Like Pringle, Schoen would be a prime target for Kansas City as a priority free agent.

We’ll have a full list of upcoming pro days for you soon on Chiefs Wire. Be sure you’re following on Facebook and Twitter.

Lions check out Kansas State prospect pro day

Lions check out Kansas State prospect pro day and which players Detroit might consider in the 2020 NFL Draft

The pro day circuit for college programs spotlighting their prospective NFL talents is kicking off in earnest over the next few days. One of the first big programs to host a pro day is Kansas State.

The Detroit Lions are confirmed in attendance in Manhattan. Kansas State doesn’t have any high-level prospects in 2020; no Wildcat players were invited to the recent scouting combine. However, the Wildcat program consistently churns out NFL talent and has a few later-round players and likely undrafted free agents who could interest Detroit.

Georgie defensive tackle Michael Barnett has launched his campaign to raise money for pancreatic cancer, a cause that is close to him due to his uncle’s passing.

Barnett, a five-year Bulldog, just wrapped up his last collegiate season and is looking forward to beginning his professional career.

Out of Ridgeville, South Carolina, Barnett is a part of a senior class at Georgia that enjoyed 44 wins, which ties for the most ever in the school’s history.

With his platform on the cusp of becoming even larger, Barnett wants to help raise money for a cause that is very important to him.

He is asking that you make a pledge to donate for every bench press rep that he completes at Georgia’s Pro-Day, which is taking place in March.

The money will be going to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, an organization that is dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer on research, clinical initiatives, patient services & advocacy.

Barnett explains his mission in his own words here:

Pancreatic Cancer is known as the world’s toughest cancer. Unfortunately, I’ve had first hand experience with that reality. My uncle recently lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. It was really hard to see what he and our family went through, and I want to do what I can to help make sure others have a fighting chance.

That’s why, in my uncle’s honor, as I take the next step toward achieving my NFL dream, I have made an important decision to use my performance at Georgia’s Pro Day to support Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), and their urgent mission to save lives. PanCAN attacks pancreatic cancer on all fronts: research, clinical initiatives, patient services and advocacy.

Please join me by making your pledge. Together we can bring hope to the pancreatic cancer community!
