Marshall Manning said Pro Bowl was ‘scripted’ after Eli beat Peyton

“You know the refs won the game,” Marshall Manning said after his dad, Peyton, lost to Eli at the Pro Bowl. “It’s scripted. It’s scripted.”

After Eli Manning coached the NFC to a 64-59 victory over Peyton Manning and the AFC on Sunday afternoon, his nephew suggested the game was rigged.

“You know the refs won the game,” Marshall Manning told Eli at midfield. “It’s scripted. It’s scripted.”

Conspiracy theorists will point to Marshall’s comments as evidence that the NFL is rigged, but a more likely explanation is that Marshall has adopted his father’s signature sense of humor and entertainment.

When Peyton broke the NFL’s touchdown record in 2014, Denver Broncos wide receivers played keep away with the football when the QB went to collect it. We later found out that Peyton had the WRs rehearse that moment at practice before the game.

The record was real. The pass was real. But the funny-in-the-moment reaction was staged by Peyton himself. It’s possible that Marshall’s Pro Bowl comments were also planted. At the very least, Marshall could have picked up on the faux beef between Peyton and Eli and he took advantage of an opportune time to add fuel to the narrative fire.

Now I sound like a conspiracy theorist.

Regardless of whether or not Marshall was being serious, it was a funny — and entertaining — moment at the Pro Bowl. Like father, like son.

T.J. Ward and Chris Harris don’t like the Pro Bowl’s new format

T.J. Ward tweeted that the Pro Bowl has been ruined, and Chris Harris tweeted that it’s a joke now. Do you agree?

The Pro Bowl used to be an all-star game featuring the NFL’s best players competing in a fun environment in Hawaii. Over time, the “tackle” football game morphed into a wrap-up game as players (understandably) wanted to avoid injuries in a meaningless Pro Bowl.

With little to no tackling happening in recent “tackle” editions of the Pro Bowl, the NFL decided to switch to a flag football format in 2023.

The new flag game has been met with mixed reviews. Some fans and pundits would rather see players pulling a flag than “tackling” by gently putting their arms around an opponent. Others think the Pro Bowl has regressed even further.

“They really ruined the pro bowl,” former Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward tweeted on Sunday. “We use to actually see the best on best compete. What a treat that was. SMH.”

Former cornerback Chris Harris agreed with Ward’s assessment.

Ward made three Pro Bowls during his career. Harris made four. They were key members of Denver’s famous “No Fly Zone” secondary that helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 in 2015.

Ward and Harris are not alone in their disapproval of the Pro Bowl.

Peyton and Eli’s skit for the Pro Bowl is the best video you’ll watch today

Peyton and Eli’s intro skit for the Pro Bowl was more entertaining than the actual game 😅

Following a suggestion from Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson, the NFL switched the annual Pro Bowl from a “tackle” game to a flag football format beginning with the 2023 edition.

Peyton Manning and his company Omaha Productions then pitched an idea of Peyton (AFC) and Eli Manning (NFC) coaching their respective conferences and “reimagining” the all-star activities as the “Pro Bowl Games.” The NFL loved the idea.

In addition to switching to a flag football game, the “Pro Bowl Games” also now include skills competitions that are added to a cumulative final score.

Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success as the NFC defeated the AFC 35-33 and Eli and Peyton were wildly entertaining. The NFL really leaned into the brother rivalry ahead of this year’s game with a hilarious promo that featured Peyton and Eli preparing for the 2024 Pro Bowl.

“I haven’t lost any sleep over it,” Peyton says of last year’s loss before the camera flashes to the former QB literally losing sleep over it.

It’s a classic Peyton skit:

The Pro Bowl’s new format has drawn mixed reviews, but most fans and pundits agree that Peyton and Eli have made it more entertaining.

Every Jaguars highlight from the 2024 Pro Bowl Games

If you missed Josh Allen, Evan Engram, and Ross Matiscik at the Pro Bowl, we’ve got you covered.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had three players participating in the 2024 Pro Bowl Games this year: pass rusher Josh Allen, tight end Evan Engram, and long snapper Ross Matiscik.

Unlike previous years, the weekend of festivities for the NFL’s all-star selections didn’t end with an actual football game.

Instead, the NFL recently replaced the game with a series of skills competitions and events culminating in a flag football game to determine the winning conference.

That meant a dizzying few days of mini-games and highlights involving Allen, Engram, and Matiscik. If you couldn’t keep up with all the Pro Bowl action in Orlando, Fla., have no fear. We’ll get you all caught up on all the Jaguars highlights from the 2024 Pro Bowl Games:

Demario Davis named Defensive MVP of the 2024 Pro Bowl Games

Saints linebacker Demario Davis was named the Defensive MVP of the 2024 Pro Bowl Games for his performance in dodgeball and flag football:

Demario Davis represented the New Orleans Saints well at the 2024 Pro Bowl Games — a standout in the NFC versus AFC dodgeball game, flag football scrimmage, and other skills challenges, Davis was recognized as the all-star game’s defensive most valuable player.

And when he took the stage to accept that award, Davis delivered a characteristic speech thanking his teammates and paying respect to his opponents coaching the AFC all-star team.

“Man, firstly man I had a lot of great teammates. The best in the business, they played awesome, I’ve got to give an amazing shoutout to them,” Davis said. “It was great being on the NFC team, the winning team, but most importantly being on the winning team, which is the kingdom of God. That’s where my power comes from, that’s where my glory goes. Being on this stage with the greats like Eli Manning, DeMarcus Ware, going against Peyton Manning, Ray Lewis, the legends of the game, you know you’ve got to be locked in mentally and that’s how we showed up. It’s an honor to be here.”

There’s a couple of Pro Football Hall of Famers in that group, and Davis might join them someday. He’s now been selected for two Pro Bowls while earning five consecutive All-Pro selections. He’s continued to defy Father Time late into his career and is on track to continue earning accolades. Whether or not he goes the distance to earn a bronze bust in Canton, he’s a Saints legend through and through.

Bobby Wagner talks about his future with the Seahawks

One key factor in that will be his relationship with the team’s new head coach, Mike Macdonald.

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner played in his ninth Pro Bowl game yesterday, the most of any player on the field. Now heading into his 13th season in the NFL, Wagner faces an uncertain offseason. While he has said he wants to continue playing, his contract is up so he’ll either thave to re-sign with the Seahawks or find work somewhere else – as he did in 2022 with the Rams. If Wagner does decide to stay, he’ll be doing it under a new head coach.

Earlier in the weekend Cameron Wolfe caught up with Wagner, who shared some of his thoughts on Mike Macdonald and the organization.

LOOK: Browns players soaking in the rays at the Pro Bowl

Here are the best shots from the Pro Bowl, where five Browns players represented the city of Cleveland.

Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, David Njoku, Wyatt Teller, and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah represented the Cleveland Browns at the Pro Bowl this weekend.

While the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the Super Bowl, 30 other teams sent representatives to the Pro Bowl, capping off stellar seasons for those players. The Browns sent five this year, with wide receiver Amari Cooper and offensive guard Joel Bitonio opting to decline the event to recover from a season of injuries.

This was, however, the first Pro Bowl for Njoku, who is not as accustomed to the event as the five-timer Garrett.

One day, it would be nice to see the Browns have nobody represented at the Pro Bowl because they are preparing for the Super Bowl. For now, however, we get to celebrate players having a great time at the Pro Bowl that they earned after a hard-fought season.

Take a look at all of the shots of these Browns players enjoying their time at the Pro Bowl.

Geno Smith takes heat on Twitter for throwing 3 Pro Bowl interceptions

Here’s how the meanest site on the planet reacted to Geno Smith’s picks at the Pro Bowl.

The NFL’s annual Pro Bowl Games culminated on Sunday afternoon with the big finale, a flag football game. The Seahawks wound up sending six players to this year’s Pro Bowl, with three of them being replacements for injured players. One of them was Seattle’s starting quarterback Geno Smith, who wound up leading the NFC team in passing yards in a win.

However, Smith also threw three interceptions during the game and for a few dark minutes he was the main character on Twitter. Here’s how the meanest site on the planet reacted to Geno Smith’s picks at the Pro Bowl.

Safety Budda Baker was the only Arizona Cardinals player to be named to the Pro Bowl. He made the Pro Bowl for the sixth time and for the fifth straight year as a starter.

He played a part in the NFC’s win over the AFC in this year’s Pro Bowl Games.

He had an end zone interception in the flag football game

The NFC won 64-59, getting a fourth-down goalline stand at the end of the game.

Baker walks away with $88,000 along with the rest of the NFC players for the win. AFC players took home $44,000.
