Texas A&M under head coach Jimbo Fisher has landed a five-star ranked prospect at nearly every position, outside of, you guessed it, linebacker. After seemingly ending the odd streak, 2023 five-star linebacker Anthony Hill opted out of his initial commitment to the program, instead chose the path of the dark side (kidding), and signed with the Texas Longhorns a couple of months later.
Not to say that productive players like former linebackers Buddy Johnson and Andre White Jr. (transferred to Georgia Tech) don’t deserve their flowers, but the overall “high ceiling” prospect has continued to slip through their grasp.
However, with one of their more prominent recruits at the position in Will linebacker Edgerrin Cooper returning for his junior season paired with senior MLB Chris Russell Sr., the starting unit is in adequate shape ahead of the 2023 season, and after adding Jackson State transfer LB Jurriente Davis to the mix, quality depth has now been established.
Not to say that more depth shouldn’t be added, and after news broke that former five-star and Notre Dame LB Prince Kollie entered the evergrowing transfer portal earlier this week, Jimbo Fisher should be on the phone ASAP with one of the most talented and underutilized players left on the market.
In two seasons with the Fighting Irish, Kollie tallied 32 tackles and 1.5 sacks while never seeing the field as much as his recruiting rankings would project, yet he still possesses all the tools to become a three-down option, while providing notable pass-rush potential, something the Aggies desperately need from the linebacker spot next season.
