Washington’s 2021 schedule was NFL’s strongest

Washington’s 2021 schedule was the most difficult in the NFL.

Ten of the 17 Washington Football Team’s 2021 game opponents will be playing in this season’s NFL playoff tournament.

I had not sat down and tallied the numbers, but driving in my car, listening to “The Al Galdi Podcast” Thursday morning, when Galdi proclaimed this statistic it certainly grabbed my attention.

Washington faced Dallas and Philadelphia twice each, and also the Chargers, Bills, Chiefs, Packers, Bucs, and Raiders. Washington in those 10 games, unfortunately only came out on top twice, defeating the Bucs and Raiders.

Galdi continued, “The Washington Football Team in the 2021 regular season played the hardest schedule in the NFL per Football Outsiders DVOA metric.” By contrast, Galdi then revealed that per the same metric, Washington in the 2020 regular season played the fifth easiest schedule.

Galdi then asked his listeners, “So you tell me, which season is more impressive? Going 7-9 against the fifth easiest schedule in the NFL, and yes winning the NFC East which was atrocious. Or, going 7-10 against the hardest schedule?”

“I know which season felt better. Obviously, the 2020 season felt better. But put aside your feelings, and get out of your feelings. Just look at this thing objectively. Which season is better? The answer is the 2021 season. And yes, neither season is some great season. And yes, there were things about the 2021 season that were off-putting…”

Galdi was not saying 2021 was a great season; not even saying it was a good season. He was saying, we were all fooled by the 2020 season, because it felt good to win the NFC East, when it was a weak year.

Bill Parcells for a couple of decades has been known for having said, “You are what your record says you are.” The TV football commentators bow their knee to him acting as if Parcells was so profound in that statement.

But ever since I was a college student watching BYU finish 13-0 in the 1984 season, including beating a very average Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl, a thought pressing me is, “Ok, you are undefeated, but whom did you play on your schedule?”

Here is the link to Thursday’s “The Al Galdi Podcast.”

Chargers QB Justin Herbert reflects on first four weeks of 2021 season

Recapping the first four weeks of the Chargers’ 2021 season.

Through four weeks, the Chargers have a 3-1 record and sit atop the AFC West.

Here’s a breakdown of how Los Angeles got to where they are:

Week 1 at Washington: In the 20-16 victory, head coach Brandon Staley became only the second Chargers coach to win their debut. After being known for struggling to finish games last season, Los Angeles’ comeback win made a strong statement in their season opener. The team outlasted Washington’s dominant defense with a stellar performance from quarterback Justin Herbert, who finished 31-of-47 passing for 337 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

Week 2 vs. Cowboys: While the Chargers managed to produce 408 total yards, they left some points on the table due to two interceptions, penalties, including some controversial calls, and poor execution in the red zone. After going back and forth throughout all four quarters, it was Dallas who came out victorious following Greg Zuerlein’s game-winning field goal from 56 yards out as time expired.

Week 3 at Chiefs: Let’s not forget about the Bolts’ statement win on the road win over Kansas City. Like we all expected, it was a shootout between the two teams that came down to the wire. Highlighted by Herbert’s four touchdowns, an all-around great defensive performance to limit QB Patrick Mahomes, and a gutsy fourth-down call, the Chargers prevailed, marking their first win in an AFC West opener since 2014.

Week 4 vs. Raiders: In the team’s Monday night 28-14 victory over Las Vegas, the versatility of the Chargers’ offensive weapons was highlighted. The dynamic wide receiver duo, Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, only combined for 49 yards. However, tight ends Jared Cook and Donald Parham stepped up and each scored a touchdown while running back Austin Ekeler added a pair. The defense limited QB Derek Carr to only 196 passing yards after averaging 401 passing YPG (most in NFL) in Weeks 1-3.

Recently, Herbert shared his insight on how he felt about the team through the first four weeks of the regular season.

“I love that we take it week by week,” Herbert said. “I really believe in the guys in this locker room. But it’s all about each week of preparation. We never look too far ahead, we never look back. You can’t let Dallas beat you again and you can’t let the Chiefs win. You can’t let that hold you back. It’s all about this next week of preparation and I know guys in that locker room attack every week like it’s nothing, so it’s awesome.”

Looking ahead, Los Angeles is set to face the Browns and Ravens, both two tough teams from the AFC North with 3-1 records, before entering their bye week.

While winning both is the most ideal scenario, if they are able to at least go 1-1, then they will still be in good shape before heading into the final stretch of the season.

Currently, L.A. has the ninth-easiest schedule for the remainder of the year, according to ESPN’s Mike Clay.

NFL Week 3: Ranking the games by how watchable they are

Beginner’s tip: You don’t need to see what’s going on in the Falcons and Giants game. Keep your mind clear.

Another week of NFL action is upon us and there’s a lot to pay attention to this coming Sunday and Monday. Thankfully, the snoozefest played by the Texans and Panthers has already been played, leaving 15 games to choose from on Sunday.

Don’t know what to put on the television or your other totally legitimate streams that definitely don’t have hoards of insane fans in the comment sections spewing nonsense? This list has your back will give you the information you need while you avoid giving your computer the plague on whatever site you stumble upon for Sundays, allegedly. I’m not saying you’re doing that, this is all hypothetical.

Here are the remaining 15 games yet to be played in Week 3, ranked by how watchable they are.

Washington’s toughest four-game stretch in 2021 begins in Week 5

The Washington Football Team has a tough path to repeat as NFC East champions in 2021. In addition to a first-place schedule, Washington’s 17th game in 2021 is a road matchup against the Bills.

Washington has some difficult stretches in 2021, including five straight division games to end the season. The Football Team will also play on the road in four of its final six games.

Cynthia Frelund, NFL.com’s analytics expert, recently previewed the most difficult stretch of every NFC East team.

Frelund’s model determines WFT’s most difficult stretch begins in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints. In Week 6, Washington hosts Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, followed by a trip to Lambeau Field to visit the Green Bay Packers. Finally, in Week 8, Washington heads to the Mile High City to face the Denver Broncos.

Here are Frelund’s win probabilities for each game during this stretch:

  • New Orleans — 52.1%
  • Kansas City — 47.1%
  • Green Bay — 48.3%
  • Denver — 51.9%

This stretch features two of the last three NFL MVPs – that is, if Aaron Rodgers is playing for Green Bay in 2021. Road games at Denver are always difficult, especially for teams coming from the east coast.

If Washington can survive this stretch with at least a 2-2 record, it could go a long way in determining if the team can repeat as NFC East champs.

2021 NFL preseason schedule by team

The NFL released their 2021 preseason schedule. Here is a look at every preseason schedule by team.

The NFL released their preseason schedule for the 2021 exhibition campaign.

There are some tepid Super Bowl rematches, such as the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs opening up the first official week of preseason.

The Dallas Cowboys take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in a long-awaited Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.

To accommodate for a 17-game schedule, the league borrowed from the four-game preseason — kind like daylight savings time — and added that extra game on the back end of the schedule to create a 17-game schedule.

NFC teams get two home preseason games this year. The AFC gets just one.

Here is a look at every team’s preseason schedule with all times Eastern.

24 Bills players will face their former team in 2021

Buffalo Bills players who will face their former team on the 2021 NFL schedule.

The Bills currently have a training camp roster that’s pushing 90 players. By the time the regular season rolls around, the Bills won’t be carrying that many guys.

Still, the NFL recently released the Bills’ upcoming schedule and in it we have some matchups that will be very interesting for some of their current players. That’s because a set of 24 of them are facing a former team they’ve played for.

And yes, the Carolina Panthers make an appearance..

Here’s a rundown of those players:

The Washington Football Team released their 2021 schedule earlier this month. As Washington looks to defend its NFC East championship in 2021, it will face a difficult road repeating as division winners.

The Football Team will face a daunting schedule that includes a first-place schedule, matchups against the last two Super Bowl champions in Tampa Bay and Kansas City and a difficult stretch to end the season.

In addition, Washington has to face quarterbacks Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Josh Allen, Russell Wilson and a host of other talented passers.

Now that we’ve had some time to analyze, review, and predict the Washington Football Team’s 2021 schedule, let’s answer all pertinent questions surrounding Washington’s schedule for next season.

17 storylines in Buffalo Bills’ 2021 schedule

Storyline for every Buffalo Bills game on 2021 NFL schedule.

The Buffalo Bills’ 2021 schedule was released with a twist last week. There’s an added 17th game, but in a way, this slate of games is the same as it always is in the NFL.

Each and every week, there’s at least one storyline to follow between the two teams. Sometimes there’s multiple.

Keeping it at a 1-1 ratio, here’s one storyline for each of the Bills’ 17 games in 2021:

Ranking the quarterbacks the Buffalo Bills face in 2021

Rankings quarterback on the Buffalo Bills’ 2021 NFL schedule including Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes.

Luckily for the Buffalo Bills, the tables are pretty much turned in this scenario nowadays. Foes of the Bills look at their schedule and when they see Buffalo and quarterback Josh Allen coming to town? They’re the nervous ones.

But Buffalo still has some intriguing matchups ahead in 2021 which involve the quarterback position. Following the Bills’ upcoming schedule being released last week, here is a ranking of the QBs ahead for the Bills from easiest to toughest:

ESPN insiders ‘circled’ these 2 Bills games on 2021 NFL schedule

Buffalo Bills have 2 picks for games to circle in 2021 NFL schedule per ESPN.

After the NFL released the full schedules for every NFL team last week, ESPN’s NFL coverage crew of insiders and analysts broke down the slates ahead. In doing so, a roundtable involving six each pegged a different game they have “circled” in 2021 that they’re excited about.

Of those six picks, two involved the Bills.

First, analyst Matt Bown picked the Bills visiting the Patriots in Week 16:

Matt Bowen, NFL analyst: Bills at Patriots, Week 16. I really like the roster upgrades New England made this offseason through free agency and the draft. There are scheme-specific players there. And this matchup in Week 16 against Buffalo could have major implications in both playoff seeding and the AFC East race.

In addition, insider Jeremy Fowler is looking forward to one many in Bills Mafia are as well. Bills vs. Chiefs:

Jeremy Fowler, national NFL writer: Bills at Chiefs, Week 5. Buffalo’s dream 2020 season fizzled quickly with a shaky performance against Kansas City in the AFC title game. This rematch should be tighter, with the Bills eager to take the proverbial next step. And by Week 5, Kansas City’s reimagined offensive line should be in full swing.

The Bills and Patriots matchup is the second of the two times the divisional foes will faceoff next season. The first, in Orchard Park, is on Monday Night Football. That game is the lone home game of the Bills’ four prime-time contests next year, however, the second meeting between the two certainly could have massive playoff implications because of how late it is in the season.

The Bills vs. Chiefs matchup needs little introduction. A re-do of the 2020 AFC title game.

But Fowler also had another interesting game mentioned. In terms of which rookie debut he’s looking forward to, it’s the Steelers’ rusher Najee Harris vs. the Bills in Week 1.

In that projection, there’s a intriguing claim made. Harris will “set a tone in Week 1,” says Fowler:

Fowler: Najee Harris, Steelers at Bills. Pittsburgh’s schedule is brutal, the offensive line is patchy and Ben Roethlisberger is pushing 40 years old, so counting out the Steelers is a convenient thing to do. But Harris is the franchise’s best every-down back since Le’Veon Bell and will set a tone in Week 1.
