Georgia football DB announces transfer to Illinois

Georgia football senior DB/special teams guru announces his transfer to the University of Illinois in hopes of a starting role.

Georgia’s senior defensive back, running back and special teams guru Prather Hudson has officially announced his transfer to the University of Illinois via his Instagram account.

Hudson began his career with the Bulldogs as a preferred walk-on, but worked to earn a scholarship after two years on the team.

Hudson finished his career with the Dawgs with 97 rushing yards, 29 receiving yards and 10 tackles.  He was always a fan favorite and showed some real toughness working to get where he is today.

Here’s what Hudson had to say about his decision as well as his time at UGA on his Instagram post from Tuesday night:

If there is one thing I have learned during my time at UGA is to be BOLD. Walk-on to one of the top schools in the country. Bet on yourself. Earn a spot to play. Shoot your shot (@lauramrutledge ). No goal is too big. No dream is unattainable. It is hard to summarize my emotions about my time at UGA, but I can say that Georgia has my loyalty forever. I tried to give Georgia everything I had. Every kickoff, every practice rep, and every drill in the Georgia summer heat. It is by far the hardest of goodbyes. It was the greatest honor to represent Georgia in the red and black every Saturday these past five years. Coach Smart, has been a father figure to me and I will never forget his impact on not just me but my teammates. It is time to be bold again. I am continuing college football for one more year at the University of Illinois. Once a dawg always a dawg. 24 OUT!”

Nothing but the best to a Damn Good Dawg.

Running Back Prather Hudson (No. 24):

Class: Senior

Height: 5-11

Weight: 200 pounds

Hometown: Columbus, Georgia

High School: Brookstone High School

Georgia Bulldogs running back Prather Hudson is entering into his senior season in Athens. Hudson has 22 carries for 84 yards over his career. He’s played a lot of snaps on special teams as well, where he’s recorded seven tackles over the years.

He didn’t have to make many tackles on kickoffs with Rodrigo Blankenship consistently booming the ball beyond the back of the end zone. His special teams work may be even more important in 2020.

He’s yet to score a touchdown in his career, so bet on Kirby Smart and the offensive staff will try to help him find pay dirt at some point this upcoming season.

Hudson is in a talented running back room that features Zamir White, James Cook, and Kenny McIntosh.
