RB Pierre Strong Jr. ruled out of game with hamstring injury

Cleveland Browns backup running back Pierre Strong Jr. left the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a hamstring injury.

Cleveland Browns backup running back Pierre Strong Jr. left the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a hamstring injury. Strong played well for the Browns against the Jaguars. The running back played a few roles for the Browns including kick returner.

Strong has one carry for the Browns for -5 yards. The play was blown up behind the line of scrimmage and Strong was tackled as soon as he got the handoff. Strong caught one pass for ten yards. Strong looked decisive and strong when he returned a kickoff for 25 yards.

Hopefully, Strong’s injury isn’t too serious. The talented running back is trying to carve out some playing time in a deep group. The Browns running back room got an influx of talent against the Jaguars. D’Onta Foreman started the game for the Browns. Jerome Ford is leading the Browns’ rushing attack with 62 yards on six carries.

The Browns are currently leading the Jaguars 16-3 near the end of the third quarter.

Browns have options but no answer at return specialist

The Cleveland Browns will rely on a bevy of return specialists until Nyheim Hines recovers from his torn ACL.

The Cleveland Browns have one big question mark on their roster heading into the season opener. The Browns have many options at the returner spots but no answers. The team could not find a reliable returner after cut-day. The Browns do not list a punt returner on their official depth chart. The organization believes Nyheim Hines will be the starting returner once he returns from injury.

The Browns have a handful of choices for punt returners on their practice squad. James Proche II was the Browns’ primary returner last year. He returned 22 punts for 197 yards. Jaelon Darden, another receiver on the practice squad, returned four punts for 39 yards last year for the Browns. Darden was the best returner in the preseason. He returned six kickoffs for 170 yards and four punts for 23 yards.

Darden is a serviceable returner, but not a long-term option. The Browns will likely elevate one of the receivers to the game-day roster until Hines returns.

The kick returners, Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong Jr., leave much to be desired in the return game. Strong was the primary kick returner last season. He returned eight kicks for 200 yards. Strong’s impressive mix of speed and strength could make him a threat with the league’s new “Dynamic” kick return.

The Browns will have to rely on a collective of return specialists at the start of the season. The Browns have a lot of faith that Hines will be the return specialist when he’s healthy. Hines tore his ACL in July of last year after a jet ski and their driver hit him. He is currently on the Non-Football Injury list and isn’t eligible to return until the season’s fifth game. The Browns must make do with the players in their organization until then.

Browns RB Pierre Strong Jr. leaves Wednesday’s practice in ambulance

Best wishes to Pierre!

Cleveland Browns running back Pierre Strong Jr left Wednesday’s afternoon practice in an ambulance, according to multiple reports.

Strong was seen walking off the field with trainers after suffering an apparent upper-body injury during a drill during practice.  The Browns suffered another injury scare at running back earlier this offseason with newly acquired back D’Onta Foreman, who has thankfully returned to total health after a neck injury.

Cleveland is already considered to be thin at the running back position as they await Nyheim Hines and Nick Chubb’s return to the field. Both backs are making good progress but would be lucky to be back by Week 1 at the earliest. This leaves Foreman and third-year back Jerome Ford as the team’s only healthy running backs as the season quickly approaches.

The Browns await official word on the extent of Pierre Strong’s injury and will most likely not find out until after practice. Strong walking off the field under his power leaves reason for optimism as we await further news.

UPDATE: Head coach Kevin Stefanski has stated Strong Jr. sustained an injury to his ribs.

How the Browns will handle the running back position until Nick Chubb returns

How will the Browns handle running back snaps until they get their star back?

One of the most highlighted positions of discussion this offseason was the running back for the Cleveland Browns as they continue to wait on the return of Nick Chubb.

The team entered the offseason with the uncertainty of Chubb’s health and an expiring contract from Kareem Hunt, the team leader in rushing TDs. Until Nick Chubb returns, Andrew Berry has brought in some skilled veterans along with returning running backs Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong.

After making some impressive plays in his first game as a Brown, the secret is out about D’Onta Foreman‘s involvement in the run game. As a power back, the NFL veteran brings a powerful presence at the goal line and in short-yardage situations. Going into his seventh year, Foreman is someone who will look to handle a chunk of the rushing attempts for the Browns early on.

Nyheim Hines is another back who was brought in this offseason from the Bills. Still working through his torn ACL, Hines will look to bring speed to the backfield and special teams room.

Ford and Strong are the Browns’ returning backs who will have to fight for their touches early on. Both players filled in nicely after the devastating season-ending injury to Nick Chubb, but the Browns hope to not find themselves in that situation again. Until Chubb officially returns, the team will mostly rotate these backs efficiently.

Browns inactives: CB Greg Newsome active vs. Ravens

The Browns slot corner will be back vs Baltimore

The Cleveland Browns have announced their inactives list against the Baltimore Ravens, as they look for revenge for the loss in Cleveland back in October.

The Browns will be without three of their best offensive tackles, which is not good going against a defense that leads the league in sacks. It will be a big test for Deshaun Watson, as this is his chance to prove he is still an elite franchise quarterback.

The team will also be down two wide receivers in Marquise Goodwin and David Bell, where Austin Watkins Jr. was called up from the practice squad to cover for injuries. The Browns’ defense will need to step up against an offense that is killing teams running the football. This has all the makings of a statement game for Cleveland.

The inactives for today are as follows:

  • QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson
  • S Ronnie Hickman
  • DE Isaiah McGuire
  • DT Siaki Ika
  • OT Dawand Jones
  • WR Marquise Goodwin
  • WR David Bell

The Browns and Ravens kick things off at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.

3 Bold predictions as the Browns look for three-in-a-row vs. Seahawks

Will the Browns be able to extend the winning streak to 3 games?

The Cleveland Browns got another thrilling victory over the Indianapolis Colts last week when Kareem Hunt punched it in from the one-yard line for a 39-38 win. That win had much to do with a superhuman effort from defensive end Myles Garrett that got him tabbed as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Now the team heads out west into one of the toughest places to play to face the Seahawks in Seattle.

The team will again turn to backup P.J. Walker as Deshaun Watson continues to recover from his shoulder injury. Walker hasn’t been great but the offensive line and running game have gradually gotten better if he can limit turnovers they may be able to tread water in Seattle.

No matter what the team will need a strong showing from the defense if they want to extend the winning streak to three games. Myles Garrett had a phenomenal game last week if the defense can replicate what they did against the 49ers a couple of weeks ago they could find some success and extend the streak.

Here are this week’s bold predictions as the Browns look to conquer the 12th man in Seattle.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns’ offensive players vs. Ravens

It was a horrible day for the Browns offense

Without their starting quarterback on Sunday, the Cleveland Browns were horrible offensively. They only managed three points and it took until late in the second half before the team had totaled 100 yards of total offense. Rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson truly looked like a rookie day-three pick as he never looked comfortable.

It was clear from the beginning that the Ravens defense knew they could capitalize on the struggles of the Browns offense line early and often this week. The team has a major problem right now at left tackle that likely won’t have a fix this season without many options out there.

The team couldn’t establish a run game and when they did find some success they often had those plays negated by a penalty. The team will now have the bye week to lick their wounds and figure things out before the 49ers come to town. Here are the top 10 highest-graded offensive players from Sunday according to PFF.

Browns surge as Pierre Strong Jr. finds the endzone after big Jerome Ford run

The running backs are stepping up in the absence of Nick Chubb

The Cleveland Browns are back in front of the Pittsburgh Steelers, thanks primarily to a massive run by running back Jerome Ford that got them all the way down to the one-yard line. The drive was capped off by a one-yard run by newly acquired running back Pierre Strong Jr. The Browns then went on to convert the two-point conversion to give them a three-point lead over the Steelers.

With still over a quarter and a half left to play in this game, the Browns are looking to advance to 2-0 on the season.

Can the Browns continue to step up in the absence of running back Nick Chubb? Even escaping Monday night against the Steelers is just the first step. However, this would also give them a fresh start to prepping for life without Chubb.

Strong and Ford are doing their best to keep the Browns afloat at the running back position in the meantime.

Jordan Elliott plays a ton, Sione Takitaki gets MIKE reps, and more snap count takeaways from Browns vs. Bengals

What were the biggest takeaways from the snap count totals from Browns vs. Bengals?

The Cleveland Browns are 1-0 for the second straight season after taking down the defending AFC North champion Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 24-3 on Sunday. They now look to get off to a 2-0 start, and a 2-0 start in the division as well, as they are set to take on the banged-up Pittsburgh Steelers on national television on Monday night.

Before we turn the page to Steelers week, however, there is still more to review and analyze from this Week 1 beatdown. There is still all-22 to watch and breakdown, standouts to highlight, and in this article, snap counts to take a deep look at.

Snap counts have since been released for their win over the Bengals, and there are a few things that have caught my eye. Here are four takeaways that stood out from how the Browns used and rotated their personnel during the rainy Sunday affair against their interstate rivals.

Browns announce 6 number changes ahead of Week 1 matchup vs. Bengals

Number changes have been made for six players

The NFL regular season is finally upon us as the Cleveland Browns prepare to face their in-state rival Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday in Cleveland Browns Stadium as rookies Cedric Tillman and Dawand Jones get set for their debuts. The place is likely to be packed for one of the most anticipated Browns seasons since the return in 1999.

The Browns have added talent all over the roster heading into this season which should result in more wins. They are faced with a tough task as the AFC North has four teams that could fight for the players and that’s without talking about the non-division teams that have elite quarterbacks.

As normal several players have made number changes after roster cutdowns make more available. With a total of 90 players going into training camp, it can be difficult for faces added late or rookies to get the number they want for the 2023 season.

Here’s a look at six players who have recently changed their number before the matchup with Cincinnati.
