WATCH: Chiefs S Daniel Sorenson snags 75-yard pick-six vs. Broncos

#Chiefs S Daniel Sorensen helped seal the game with a 75-yard interception returned for a touchdown against the #Broncos. | from @TheJohnDillon

A tumultuous season for Kansas City Chiefs safety Daniel Sorenson has started to turn around for the veteran safety in recent weeks, with a huge pick-six against Denver proving he’s still a defensive threat. He was benched earlier this year in favor of Juan Thornhill after a bad start left Sorenson the scapegoat of the Chiefs’ defensive struggles.

Their bad start ended up being just that; a bad start. The defense has rebounded in a big way to become an asset for the team when they’ve needed it the most. It turns out that Sorenson’s involvement in the defense wasn’t cause to get rid of him as some Twitter users have suggested, but was only an issue insofar as the regularity of his use.

Check out this highlight-reel pick-six that sealed the game against the Broncos in primetime on Sunday night:

The Chiefs played with their food for the better part of this meeting against Denver, but Sorenson put the game away with that effort in the middle of the fourth quarter. After all of the grief he’s been given over the course of his struggles and tribulations earlier this year, the play is sure to instill some confidence in the veteran safety ahead of the most important part of Kansas City’s schedule.

At 31 years old, Sorenson is one of the most experienced players on the Chiefs’ defense and has been known as a leader in the locker room. An undrafted gem from Brigham Young University, he joined Kansas City in 2014 and was a member of the team’s championship roster in 2020.

If he can find hit his stride in the back end of 2021, Sorenson could be a huge playoff contributor, and make more plays like this one for the Chiefs’ in crucial moments. He’ll still have some work to do before fans forget how he looked earlier this year, but a play like this goes a long way towards their confidence in his abilities.

WATCH: Jordan Battle takes a pick to the house to put Bama up 38-17 in SEC Championship Game

Alabama is up 38-17 thanks to Jordan Battle’s pick six!

The Crimson Tide defense is absolutely dominating the Georgia offense in this SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

Alabama has two takeaways in this game, both interceptions. The first was caught by DeMarrco Hellams in the third quarter to stop a Georgia drive that had picked up 50+ yards.

The second came on a crucial drive for Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett if they were to have a chance to win.

On a third down at their own 31, Bennett dropped back to pass but threw the ball directly to Alabama defensive back Jordan Battle. Battle intercepted the pass and returned it 42 yards to the house for a touchdown.

Alabama now leads 38-17 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game.

WATCH: Janoris Jenkins houses a pick-6 off of Tom Brady

New Orleans Saints cornerback Janoris Jenkins intercepted Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and returned it for a touchdown.

Great players tend to make their own highlights, and that’s what New Orleans Saints cornerback Janoris Jenkins did to open the second half against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jenkins read a route perfectly, timed his jump, and intercepted a pass from Brady before sprinting 36 yards for a defensive touchdown on the return.

It’s the eighth interception returned for a touchdown Jenkins has logged in his NFL career, and the most of any active NFL player. It also ties him for the eighth-most in NFL history. He’s matched the totals set by Buccaneers great Ronde Barber, longtime Chicago Bears star Charles Tillman, and 1990’s Saints standout Eric Allen. Another one will elevate him to fifth-most, tied with Hall of Famers Deion Sanders, Aeneas Williams, and Ken Houston.

The pick-six also lifted the Saints to a 24-7 lead, but Brady bounced back on the next series to narrow the gap to 24-14. And there’s still plenty of football left. It might take another huge play from Jenkins to seal the deal.

WATCH: Quandre Diggs gets his second interception of the game

After an interception that went for a touchdown earlier in the game, Quandre Diggs picked off Jared Goff for the second time. Watch it here.

After an interception that went for a touchdown earlier in the game, former Texas cornerback Quandre Diggs picked off Rams quarterback Jared Goff for the second time in as many drives.

This one was different than the first one, as it was downfield. Goff threw it deep to wide receiver Brandon Cooks on 3rd and 5 but overthrew him by a few yards. Diggs was five yards behind the receiver, being in the perfect position to intercept the pass.

You can watch the interception here:

Former Longhorn Quandre Diggs is making another play, this time a pick-six. This is Diggs’ second INT since being traded from Detroit.

Another week, another highlight play for Quandre Diggs. The Seattle Seahawks are in primetime again this weekend, this time playing the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football. For most of the night, Rams’ quarterback Jared Goff has been having success against the Seahawk defense.

That changed when Diggs intercepted Goff in their first possession of the first half. Thrown across the middle, Diggs came out of nowhere, intercepted the ball, and ran 55 yards to the endzone untouched.

Marcus Williams remaining humble despite recent success

New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Williams is tied for third place in interceptions, but he’s focused on helping his team get to the playoffs

[jwplayer BYb77afH]

New Orleans Saints free safety Marcus Williams has had a career filled with more ups and downs than most. He had a great rookie year in 2017 that climaxed with one of the worst moments in recent sports history; that was followed up by an intense training camp but quiet sophomore year, in which Williams spent too much time second-guessing himself.

But now he’s back to his old self, if not playing at a higher level. Williams is tied for third in the NFL in interceptions (4), matching the mark set by cornerbacks Janoris Jenkins and Marcus Peters. It’s a tight race for the league title, with Minkah Fitzpatrick and Devin McCourty narrowly sharing the lead (5 each).

It’s even more impressive for Williams because it’s taken him just 10 games to match the number he put up in 16 games as a rookie. The sky might be the limit for him now that he’s fully acclimated to the game and moved on from some early mistakes. When asked whether he feels like he’s in something of a groove with interceptions in back-to-back games, including a win-clenching pick-six against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Williams downplayed his achievements.

“I just feel like I am in the same groove I’ve always been in. [I’m] just doing my job for the team,” Williams said during a conference call with New Orleans media. “Whatever I can do to help our team out. That’s just what I pride myself on, just doing what I can to help my team.”

However, Williams did take time to credit his success to diligent film study. He noticed Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston putting too much air underneath passes to the area of the field he was defending, and knew it would create an opportunity to go make a big play: “They’ve been doing that on film so I saw what was going to happen. [We] talked about it in the back end and just dissected the play. I just went and did my assignment and if you do your assignment, the play will come your way. That’s what happened yesterday.”

And he’s exactly what the Saints need right now. Williams, who celebrated his 23rd birthday back in September, has the talent to go out and make game-changing plays but the self-awareness to remain focused and continue putting in work behind the scenes. He’s a great role model to his teammates and someone who should be a core player for New Orleans for a long time.

Marcus Williams scores on an interception return, Saints win 34-17

New Orleans Saints S Marcus Williams intercepted Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston and returned the ball for a defensive touchdown.

It was a bad day in the office for Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, who hurled four interceptions into the hands of the New Orleans Saints defense. His third turnover ended up getting returned from midfield for a Saints touchdown by free safety Marcus Williams, who correctly read the play design and took advantage of a badly-placed ball from Winston. With the ball in his hands, Williams turned on the jets to streak across the field and into the Tampa Bay end zone.

This was Williams’ fourth interception on the year, which leads the Saints defense and ties the 16-game total he collected as a rookie back in 2017. That year, Williams intercepted four passes and was credited with seven other pass breakups. In 2019, he’s already bagged four interceptions while deflecting a dozen passes — through just 10 games.

The big play extended New Orleans’ lead and earned congratulations from Williams’ teammates, including injured cornerback Marshon Lattimore. Lattimore was watching the game from home while nursing a strained hamstring, and he took time to shout out his friend from his official Twitter account:
