76ers at Pistons: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 116, Pistons 108

Money line (ML)

76ERS (-275) is the smart play here even though, they are coming off a win last night against the Celtics. Philadelphia handled Boston in that game, but the quick turnaround is likely why the odds are suppressed some here.

An upset wouldn’t be a total shock but, expect the 76ers to ultimately take care of business. Philadelphia has now won six straight games against the Pistons and has covered the spread in all six of those contests.

Against the spread (ATS)

76ERS -6.5 (-110) should hit on Saturday night as Philadelphia is 9-6-1 ATS this season and its previous three wins have been by at least eight points.

Detroit is in a huge slump right now as they have lost 17 of their last 20 games and haven’t been all that competitive. They are coming off a loss against the Rockets on Friday night, but that game was a tad closer. Still, take the 76ers to win and cover in this Eastern Conference matchup.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 217.5 (-110) looks like a good bet on Saturday night as the 76ers are starting to get into a groove on offense. They’ve averaged more than 114 points per game this season and C Joel Embiid is taking the next step as a scorer.

While Detroit is far from an elite offense, they can get to 106-108 points on a nightly basis. If they can do that in this game, the Over should have no problem hitting at all.

Celtics at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 113, Celtics 108

Money line (ML)

The 76ERS (-190) beat the Celtics on Wednesday night by eight points, but expect this game to be a tad closer. Boston will still be without SF Jayson Tatum, but PG Kemba Walker has returned to the lineup and that gives the Celtics more scoring options.

The 76ers should win this game as they have now won three of their last four contests. But this is a heavyweight fight on Friday night that is must-see TV.

Against the spread (ATS)

The 76ERS -4.5 (-110) are the smart play against the spread as well in this game, given it’s only two baskets. Philadelphia has now covered in three of their last four games against divisional opponents. You could certainly go either way here, but the 76ers appear to be the sharp play on Friday night.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 222.5 (-110) is the right play here as the Celtics won’t have their leading scorer on the floor. Both defenses are allowing just over 110 points per game and we know these divisional games can tend to be a bit of a slugfest. Take the Under here as both teams could struggle to score more than 110 points.

Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Boston Celtics (8-4) are in the City of Brotherly Love Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off against the Philadelphia 76ers (9-5) at the Wells Fargo Center. Below, we analyze the Celtics-76ers NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Boston has split its previous two games following a seven-day layoff due to postponements caused by COVID-19 issues. The Celtics crushed the Orlando Magic 124-97 Friday and then got destroyed 105-75 by the New York Knicks Sunday. Both games were in Boston.

The absence of All-Star C Joel Embiid really hurt a 76ers top-10 offense during a 106-104 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday. The 76ers shot 28% from behind the arc and turned the ball over 23 times.

Embiid is projected to be in the starting lineup Wednesday as is SG Seth Curry, who has missed the last six games after testing positive for COVID-19. Curry was averaging an incredible 60.3% from the field and 59.5% from 3 before the hiatus. Philadelphia was 7-1 (5-2 against the spread) in its first eight games and with its full starting lineup.

The 76ers won last season’s regular-season series 3-1 (3-1 ATS) but were swept in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs by the Celtics.

Celtics at 76ers: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:42 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Celtics +155 (bet $100 to win $155) | 76ers -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Celtics +4.5 (-110) | 76ers -4.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 221.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Celtics at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Celtics 111, 76ers 107

Money line (ML)

Philadelphia beating Boston in the 2019-20 season series was more of a blip on the radar than it was something to latch onto moving forward. Also, we still don’t know how 76ers will look vs. good teams.

They marched out to a 7-1 record and appeared to be an Eastern Conference contender under first-year head coach Doc Rivers. The absence of Curry has made a big difference to the 76ers and their highly anticipated regular-season meetings with the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat were minimized due to COVID-related absences.

I’m still of the thinking that Philadelphia needs to prove itself against quality competition. I lean CELTICS (+155) for a tiny wager only because the better play is Boston plus the points.

Against the spread (ATS)

The market is split currently on Celtics-76ers with a slight majority of the money (sharps) on Boston but a slight majority of the bets placed (average joes) on Philadelphia. As much as Tatum not being there hurts the Celtics in the long run, that intel is baked into this line.

Boston PG Kemba Walker made his season debut against the Knicks this past weekend and he was great in two of the Celtics’ regular-season wins over the 76ers last season. Additionally, SG Jaylen Brown is low-key playing at an All-NBA level and is probably Boston’s MVP at this point in the season.

TAKE CELTICS +4.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

For what it’s worth, the total has been steamed up from a 218-point opener to the current number so the market is betting the Over. I lean UNDER 221.5 (-110) initially because four of the past six Celtics-76ers games have gone Under the total, but the market movement makes me PASS ON THE TOTAL.

Philadelphia 76ers at Oklahoma City Thunder odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Oklahoma City Thunder NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia 76ers (9-5) play their second road game in as many days Sunday. They face the Oklahoma City Thunder (6-6) at Chesapeake Energy Arena with tip-off set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the 76ers-Thunder NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The 76ers lost a 106-104 nail-biter as 1.5-point road underdogs at the Memphis Grizzlies Saturday. Philadelphia being careless with the rock is becoming a consistent thing; the 76ers turned the ball over 23 times against the Grizzlies and have the third-highest turnover percentage in the NBA.

Oklahoma City fought back from an 18-point first-half deficit to beat the Chicago Bulls 127-125 in overtime as a 2.5-point home underdog Friday. The win snapped a two-game losing skid for the Thunder. OKC SG Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with a team-high 33 points on 68.4% shooting, adding 5 rebounds and 10 assists.

These teams split their season series last year but OKC covered the spread in both games. Philadelphia has lost six of seven against the spread against OKC.

76ers at Thunder: Betting odds, spread and lines

76ers at Thunder: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Thunder 113, 76ers 109

Money line (ML)

It’s been a long week for Philadelphia (more on that in a second) but, there’s a good chance the 76ers are looking ahead as they have two nationally televised home games against the Boston Celtics following this game.

Furthermore, Philadelphia hasn’t looked great recently. The 76ers have lost four of six games and those two wins were against a COVID-19-ravaged Miami Heat team. 76ers-Thunder is priced as if Philadelphia is an upper-echelon team, and it might be when fully healthy, but in this spot, the value is with OKC.

lean THUNDER (+120) for a quarter-unit with a plan to bet the spread heavier.

Against the spread (ATS)

Aren’t the 76ers tired? This is Philadelphia’s second back-to-back and its fifth game this week. The 76ers are 10-15-2 ATS with a minus-4.1 ATS margin since 2018 in the second game of a back-to-back.

Also, this is a good spot for OKC as the Thunder have covered the spread in 11 straight Sunday games and are 3-0 ATS this season when getting 3-4.5 points.

GIMME THUNDER +2.5 (-110) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS ON THE TOTAL with a lean on OVER 221.5 (-110). The market has steamed the total up from the 219.5-point opener and I’d guess it has to do with the 76ers being a little worn out and the Thunder’s high 3-point rate. I’d rather take the OKC side than the Over.

Heat at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 122, Heat 103

Money line (ML)

The Heat (+400) are expected to have to play with eight players, as one player has tested positive for COVID-19, and several others are out due to contact tracing protocol. The 76ers (-550) are very familiar with the process, as they just went through a bout of it.

AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread (ATS)

The 76ERS -10.5 (-110) are a good play since the Heat +10.5 (-110) will be so shorthanded. These teams just played an epic 137-134 overtime battle on Monday, and now they run it back Wednesday with Miami very limited. Look for Philly to take advantage of the absences and rout the visitors.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 223.5 (-110) is the play, as Philly should be able to roll up plenty of points against the eight Miami is able to roll out. The two teams combined for 271 points last time out. Still, Philly should do enough to push this one over the finish line.

Nuggets at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Nuggets 122, 76ers 111

Money line (ML)

PASS on the Nuggets (-250) at a steep price.

NBA rules require a team to have at least eight players available for a game, and Philadelphia will have a short bench with key personnel on the shelf. Denver should be able to take advantage for a much-needed road victory but we’ll get the proper value on the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

The NUGGETS -6.5 (-105) are a decent play if you’re not feeling them straight up. In a game against an opponent like the 76ers, who are extremely shorthanded, particularly in the frontcourt, all trends can be tossed out the window. Go with your gut and play the team which has a full array of players available.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 220.5 (-115) is always the play when the Nuggets are involved. The Over has cashed in three straight, and seven of their eight games overall. The Over has cashed in each of their two road games to date, too.

The Nuggets should be able to operate with very little resistance in the paint. The shorthanded 76ers might struggle to score points, but even with a short bench they should be able to roll up good offensive totals against the defensively-challenged visitors.

The Washington Wizards (2-5) visit the Philadelphia 76ers (6-1) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off at Wells Fargo Center. Below, we analyze the Wizards-76ers NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Wizards enter Wednesday’s contest off of back-to-back wins after dropping their first five games of the season. They most recently upset the Brooklyn Nets 123-122 Sunday.

The Sixers have won four straight games, including a 118-101 beatdown of the Charlotte Hornets Monday. Philly beat Washington 113-107 in the Dec. 23 season-opener for both clubs.

Wizards at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 121, Wizards 117

Money line (ML)

The 76ers will beat the Wizards for the second time this season on their home court, but we can’t lay the -250 for a straight-up win.

The Wizards just pulled out an impressive, but narrow victory over the Nets Sunday. They benefited from 20 Nets turnovers and could have similar success against a Sixers squad turning the ball over 17 times per game to rank 26th in the Association.

PASS and back the Wizards on the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

The WIZARDS +6.5 (-110) are the play to stay within 6 points in a loss. That’s the exact margin by which they lost to the 76ers in the season-opener and already have shown improvement early in the young season.

SG Bradley Beal leads the team with 30.6 points per game while PG Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double once again. Sixers star PG Ben Simmons matches up well against one of them, but the likes of Seth CurryShake Milton or Danny Green will have their hands full with the other.

Joel Embiid and F Tobias Harris will lead Philly to victory, but the Wizards guards keep this closer than the projected line.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Wizards are third in the NBA with 118.6 points per game and 108.3 possessions per game. The Sixers are 11th in pace but 14th in PPG. Defensively, only the Phoenix Suns allow fewer points per game than Philly’s 101.7 surrendered. Washington ranks 29th in points allowed and 25th in defensive efficiency (points allowed per 100 possessions).

Take the OVER 233.5 (-115) with the 76ers likely to fill the stat sheet early, relax some defensive pressures on Washington, and then clamp down to secure the win.

Charlotte Hornets at Philadelphia 76ers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Charlotte Hornets at Philadelphia 76ers NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Charlotte Hornets (2-4) wrap up their back-to-back with the Philadelphia 76ers (5-1) Monday at Wells Fargo Center with a 7 p.m. ET tip-off. Below, we analyze the Hornets-76ers NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

These teams played head-to-head Saturday and the 76ers dismantled the Hornets in a 127-112 win. Philadelphia also covered the spread as a 9.5-point favorite. The 76ers shot 59.5% from the field, 45.7% from 3-point range and had more points in the paint and fast-break points.

It was a more balanced effort from the 76ers as well. All five 76ers starters shot at least 50% from behind the arc, aside from PG Ben Simmons, who didn’t attempt a three but did mess around and get a triple-double.

One of the bright spots for the Hornets was PG Terry Rozier erupting for 35 points on 12-for-18 shooting. Philadelphia has won 11 straight vs. Charlotte and they covered the spread in three of the last four meetings.

Hornets at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 122, Hornets 105

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE. My read is the 76ers will move to 6-1 after beating the Hornets Monday night but there’ve been several teams already this season to get rolled in the first game of a back-to-back only to turn around and win the second meeting.

As always, betting this pricy of a favorite is a no-go for me in the NBA regular season.

Against the spread (ATS)

I only lean 76ERS -9.5 (+100) for a half-unit because it’s so difficult for teams to win back-to-back games over the same opponent. I cannot stop looking at the glaring mismatches at center and point guard (Joel Embiid vs. Bismack Biyombo and Simmons vs. Devonte’ Graham).

Charlotte head coach James Borrego is in a tough spot with Graham who shoots 25% from the field and 28.6% from deep but averages 7 assists to 0.8 turnovers per game. He’s essentially Fun-Size Ben Simmons: 6-foot-1 guard (allegedly) who cannot shoot but can be trusted with the ball.

Obviously, the real Simmons is a max player, All-Star and walking triple-double hence the mismatch. You could argue Borrego should start rookie PG LaMelo Ball but he might not have much better luck in this game.

It’s just too tough to beat a team twice in a row by double-digits. That’s why it’s a lean.

Over/Under (O/U)

I’ll put 1 unit on the OVER 221.5 (-110). It’s too easy for the 76ers to get good looks vs. the Hornets given the easy matchups for Philadelphia’s stars.

The gravitational pull they’ll have on the Hornets defense will open up wide-open looks for the 76ers players who are more than capable of knocking them down. Also, all Charlotte needs to get to 100-plus points is for another Hornet to help out Rozier and SF Gordon Hayward.

Hornets at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 113, Hornets 108

Money line (ML)

The Hornets were rolled 108-93 on New Year’s Day by the injury-depleted Memphis Grizzlies as 4-point home favorites. Charlotte shot terribly all over the court, going 40.7% from the field, 29% from behind the 3-point arc and 66.7% from the charity stripe. They had fewer rebounds, assists, points in the point and fast-break points, and more turnovers.

Philadelphia ran the then-undefeated Orlando Magic out of the gym, leading by 38 points at one point in a 116-92 road win as a 3.5-point favorite on New Year’s Eve. The 76ers led the Magic in fast-break points 18-2 and held Orlando to 34.7% field-goal shooting and 25% from three for the game. PF Joel Embiid tied for a game-high 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting with 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and zero turnovers.

The 76ers have beaten the Hornets in 11 straight head-to-head matchups, in fact, Embiid and PG Ben Simmons have never lost to Charlotte. The last five victories have come within how much Philadelphia is favored Saturday.

On one hand, we’re getting value because Charlotte was terrible last night and Philadelphia looks like an early-season NBA Finals contender, but on the other hand, the 76ers have owned the Hornets recently.

I lean HORNETS (+360) for a quarter-unit because I’m going to take them plus the points. The 76ers will probably edge them out but my long-term sports betting strategy is to sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when taking them to cover the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

It’s rare when we follow and not fade the market, but let’s TAKE HORNETS +9.5 (-110) because that appears to be the sharp side. According to Pregame.com, 57% of the action is on Charlotte despite them getting destroyed by the Grizzlies and Philadelphia looking great so far.

The Hornets are 9-3 ATS off of no rest and have covered in 55% of their games as road dogs since the beginning of last season.

Over/Under (O/U)

lean UNDER 216.5 (-110) because I think the trend of four straight Unders in Hornets-76ers games is stronger than these teams being a combined 1-9 O/U so far this year. Still, I’d put only a tiny wager on this.

Also, the Hornets offense was so bad last night that I am expecting a bounce-back performance and effort. They were getting some quality looks, just very few of them fell.

76ers at Magic: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Magic 113, 76ers 108

Money line (ML)

Philadelphia recovered from an odd 24-point whooping administered by the Cleveland Cavaliers Dec. 27 to beat the 2019-20 Atlantic Division champion Toronto Raptors at home 100-93 Tuesday. All-Star Joel Embiid was, and has been, dominant against the Raptors: Embiid scored 29 points (14 of which at the free-throw line), 16 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

The Magic is not only undefeated but also 4-0 ATS, including a 118-107 victory at the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 29. Orlando’s own former All-Star big man, C Nikola Vucevic, also had a monster game vs. the Thunder: Vucevic put up 28 points on 12 of 18 shooting with 10 rebounds and 5 assists.

The 76ers beat the Magic 108-101 in their final meeting last regular season Aug. 7 in the Orlando bubble, but the Magic won and covered the previous three head-to-heads.

There are just more reasons to like the Magic in this spot. First, money is flooding in on Philadelphia as 87% of the cash bet is on the 76ers, according to Pregame.com, so we have the fade the market angle with Orlando.

Second, the Magic have a more established identity with a head coach, Steve Clifford, who’s in his third season on the job and a roster with years of continuity. Orlando has made the playoffs in Clifford’s first two seasons.

Third, Philadelphia is too careless with the ball, and Orlando is great at creating turnovers: The 76ers are 26th in turnover percentage and the Magic’s defense averages the eighth-most turnovers in the NBA.

At the moment, I lean MAGIC (+125) for a quarter-unit with a plan to bet more on Orlando plus the points, but I’d wait around to see what happens with this number because it looks like we’ll get a better price with the Magic around tip-off.

Against the spread (ATS)

If I lean Orlando on the money line then I like MAGIC +3.5 (-115) for 2 units. We like the spread here because the market is in on the 76ers.

Over/Under (O/U)

Five of the previous 76ers-Magic games have gone Under the total. However, Orlando’s offense has looked good to start off the year—fifth in points per game and offensive rating—and they are playing at the fifth-fastest pace in the NBA.

Part of my money line handicap mentions Philadelphia’s turnover issues, and if that becomes a factor in Thursday’s game, the Magic will capitalize on those errors. I’d TAKE OVER 219.5 (-115) for 1 unit.
