Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia 76ers (4-4) welcome the Washington Wizards (3-4) to Wells Fargo Center Wednesday. Tip is set for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Wizards vs. 76ers odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

With the Phillies playing the World Series right next door at 8:03 p.m. ET, Philly should be popping. The 76ers are starting to bring their own excitement, having won 3 in a row after an 0-3 start to the season.

Philadelphia is led in scoring by C Joel Embiid, who is averaging 30.6 points per game. G James Harden, F Tobias Harris and G Tyrese Maxey all score more than 17 per game as well.

The Wizards have come back to earth after a 3-1 start to the season. They have now lost 3 in a row, and their most recent defeat was a 118-111 loss at home Monday against the 76ers.

Washington is led by G Bradley Beal. He is averaging 20.7 points per game and is shooting 50.9% from the field. F Kristaps Porzingis also chips in offensively, averaging 19.7 per game.

Wizards at 76ers picks and predictions

Prediction

76ers 111, Wizards 107

Moneyline

PASS.

There’s just no value other than maybe a sprinkle on the Wizards if Embiid sits and Beal goes off. Regardless, I’d rather play the points.

Against the spread

LEAN WIZARDS +6.5 (-105).

When the 76ers beat the Wizards Monday, they did it behind 55% shooting from the field and 40% shooting from deep.

The Sixers are not a great offensive rebounding team and should see regression in terms of their shooting splits this game. Philly was just 17-20 ATS last season as a home favorite.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 218 (-112).

Both teams rank in the bottom 10 of the league in pace (Sixers rank last), and neither team is great at rebounding either. This should be a slow-paced game without many second chances.

Also, the Sixers needed to shoot 55% from the field to put up 118 Monday. There were only 13 offensive boards in that game. Both teams also shot 40% from the field.

Regression should be expected, and considering each team’s pace of play and lack of attacking the offensive boards, scoring should be limited in this rematch.

Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Wizards (23-27) visit Wells Fargo Center Wednesday to take on the Philadelphia 76ers (31-19). Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Wizards vs. 76ers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Wizards will be playing the second night of a back-to-back and will be playing their third straight road game.

Washington will be without SG Bradley Beal, who ranks 17th in the NBA at 23.2 points per game (PPG). The Wizards are 1-9 against the spread (ATS) over their last 10 and are 19-30-1 ATS on the season.

The 76ers enter on a five-game win streak and have alternated covering the spread and not covering over their last nine games. Their most recent outing was a 122-119 overtime victory as 3.5-point home underdogs to the Memphis Grizzlies Monday.

The 76ers are 6-4 ATS over their last 10 and 25-24-1 ATS on the season.

Wizards at 76ers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

76ers 110, Wizards 99

Money line

PASS.

There’s no chance I’d consider a -700 favorite, especially against a Washington side that could make a playoff run. Similarly, the Wizards will be without their star and will more than likely not pull off the upset.

Against the spread

LEAN to the 76ERS -10.5 (-112).

The Wizards without Beal certainly doesn’t bode well, but almost every trend points to the Sixers being the better play here.

Washington is 2-6-1 ATS with a rest disadvantage, the worst covering rate in the NBA under those circumstances. The Wizards are 2-3-1 ATS playing on no rest and 6-10-1 ATS as road underdogs.

Philadelphia held one of the strongest home-court advantages a season ago with just 7 losses. The 76ers are led by MVP-favorite C Joel Embiid (29.1 PPG, 10.8 rebounds per game), and given the Wizards’ small frontcourt, he should be able to have his way at home.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 213.5 (-108).

Washington is on the second night of a back-to-back and should be playing on tired legs.

Without its automatic scorer in Beal, Washington looked lost against Milwaukee in Tuesday’s 14-point defeat. The Wizards scored just 98 points as the game failed to hit the 228.5 total. Washington has gone Under in 4 of its last 5 games.

Meanwhile, the Sixers play at one of the slowest paces in the NBA and rank fourth in turnover rate, so they’ll be able to extend possessions and play a half-court style of basketball through Embiid.

Philadelphia is 20-28-2 O/U this season. Washington is 25-24-1 O/U.

Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Washington Wizards at Philadelphia 76ers Game 1 NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The 8-seed Washington Wizards stop by Wells Fargo Center Sunday to play the host, 1-seed Philadelphia 76ers, in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference First Round playoff series. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Wizards-76ers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Washington earned its playoff berth via play-in tournament after losing in the 7- vs. 8-seed matchup with the Boston Celtics but went on to crush the 9-seed Indiana Pacers 142-115 the “loser goes home” game Thursday.

The Wizards have an All-NBA-caliber backcourt featuring the NBA’s second-leading scorer Bradley Beal (31.3 points per game) and walking triple-double Russell Westbrook (22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game).

Philly ended its regular-season campaign with back-to-back wins over the Orlando Magic and is 7-2 this month (5-4 against the spread).

This season, the Sixers were powered by their defense (second in defensive rating) and MVP finalist Joel Embiid who averaged 28.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

The Sixers won all three regular-season meetings with the Wizards and has beaten them in five straight, but Washington covered two of three meetings with Philly this season.

Wizards at 76ers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 121, Wizards 117

Money line (ML)

PASS even though I’m going to take Washington plus the points because there are too many “strength on weakness” edges for Philly in this series.

For instance, the Sixers force the second-highest rate of turnovers and are second in FTA/FG rate while the Wizards give up the fifth-most points off of turnovers per game and have the third-worst defensive FTA/FG rate.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

I’m going to back the more revved-up team who has played in recent must-win games and BET the WIZARDS +7.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

Washington obviously just played in the two play-in tournament games, its regular-season finale was with the 10th-place Charlotte Hornets for play-in seeding.

On the other hand, Philly hasn’t played a meaningful game all month with the exception of a road game against the Miami Heat on May 13.

For instance, the Wizards has several impressive victories such as vs. the Los Angeles Lakers (twice), Utah Jazz (twice), Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets.

Lastly, Washington has covered three of four and five of the last seven meetings with Philly.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 228.5 (-110) for a half unit because both teams like to get out on transition and excel at getting to the charity stripe.

For example, I’ve already mentioned Philly’s second-highest FTA/FG rate but Washington is third. Also, Philly is third in fast-break points per game and Washington is first in pace.

The Wizards enter Wednesday’s contest off of back-to-back wins after dropping their first five games of the season. They most recently upset the Brooklyn Nets 123-122 Sunday.

The Sixers have won four straight games, including a 118-101 beatdown of the Charlotte Hornets Monday. Philly beat Washington 113-107 in the Dec. 23 season-opener for both clubs.

Wizards at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 121, Wizards 117

Money line (ML)

The 76ers will beat the Wizards for the second time this season on their home court, but we can’t lay the -250 for a straight-up win.

The Wizards just pulled out an impressive, but narrow victory over the Nets Sunday. They benefited from 20 Nets turnovers and could have similar success against a Sixers squad turning the ball over 17 times per game to rank 26th in the Association.

PASS and back the Wizards on the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

The WIZARDS +6.5 (-110) are the play to stay within 6 points in a loss. That’s the exact margin by which they lost to the 76ers in the season-opener and already have shown improvement early in the young season.

SG Bradley Beal leads the team with 30.6 points per game while PG Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double once again. Sixers star PG Ben Simmons matches up well against one of them, but the likes of Seth CurryShake Milton or Danny Green will have their hands full with the other.

Joel Embiid and F Tobias Harris will lead Philly to victory, but the Wizards guards keep this closer than the projected line.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Wizards are third in the NBA with 118.6 points per game and 108.3 possessions per game. The Sixers are 11th in pace but 14th in PPG. Defensively, only the Phoenix Suns allow fewer points per game than Philly’s 101.7 surrendered. Washington ranks 29th in points allowed and 25th in defensive efficiency (points allowed per 100 possessions).

Take the OVER 233.5 (-115) with the 76ers likely to fill the stat sheet early, relax some defensive pressures on Washington, and then clamp down to secure the win.

Wizards at 76ers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 123, Wizards 110

Money line (ML)

Let me start off by saying PG Russell Westbrook will improve the Wizards and I’d bet Yes on BetMGM’s Washington team special for the Wizards to make the playoffs. However, in the first game of the season, against a projected Eastern Conference contending 76ers team, I cannot take the Wizards to win outright.

It’s a PASS because I wouldn’t lay -275 in a regular-season game with the 1982-83 NBA champion 76ers let alone this team.

Against the spread (ATS)

New 76ers head coach Doc Rivers brings championship know-how and a much-needed gravitas to a Philadelphia locker room that has underperformed expectations since Trust The Process has gotten legitimate buzz.

Now, there’s a new process in Philadelphia as the basketball operations are under Daryl Morey’s guidance. His fingerprints are already on this team with the 76ers acquiring 3-point specialists SG Seth Curry and SF Danny Green this offseason.

The 2020-21 Sixers are an interesting mix that if blended correctly can contend for a title. As far as this game is concerned, there is enough familiarity with each other’s roster that I am cool laying a big number and BETTING 76ERS -7.5 (+100) for 1 unit.

Apparently, BetMGM is receiving action the other way as the Wizards are getting the steam so perhaps wait for it to head in Philadelphia’s direction and bet at a flat-7 should it come down.

Finally, I strongly favor Sixers G Ben Simmons in his matchup against Westbrook. Over their past three meetings, Westbrook has shot below his career average from the field while Simmons is averaging 20 points (on 63% field-goal shooting), 13.3 rebounds and 10.3 assists per game, according to LandOfBasketball.com. Westbrook is 4-1 in his career when playing against Simmons, but those were all on teams with much higher expectations and more talent.

76ERS -7.5 (+100) is the play.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over has cashed in six of the last seven meetings in Philadelphia and the Wizards had the seventh-highest Over percentage in the league last year. It’s not like defense is what Westbrook is bringing to Washington and the Wizards have a rookie starting in SF Deni Avdija.

There will be plenty of prolific scorers on the floor and an Over-friendly complement of 3-point gunners in both lineups. Let’s TAKE OVER 230.5 (-110) for a half-unit. (Personally, I prefer sides over totals).
