#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes shared a moment with soccer superstar Lionel Messi after Sporting Kansas City’s loss to Inter Miami on Sunday.

For the first time in years, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ celebrity was rivaled at Arrowhead Stadium.

On Sunday night, soccer superstar Lionel Messi took the field for Inter Miami against Sporting Kansas City in an alternate venue contest that drew one of the biggest crowds in MLS history.

Mahomes was seen dapping up Messi after Sporting Kansas City’s loss, exchanging pleasantries with the Ballon d’Or winner in the locker room after the game.

Mahomes, who has proven to be an avid soccer fan, seemed at ease with Messi in the building. Despite Sporting’s 3-2 loss to Inter, no bad blood was brewed between the three-time Super Bowl MVP and Messi, who was clearly pleased to see that the Chiefs quarterback was in attendance.

Legendary meetings like this only happen once in a blue moon, and while Mahomes still has a way to go before equaling or surpassing Messi’s name recognition, this encounter is sure to have put him on the radar of many soccer fans around the world.

Retired New York Giants great Eli Manning playfully taunted Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes using his Gotham FC championship ring.

Former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes have more in common than just football.

Both have business ventures that extend to a variety of industries, and both have a vested interest in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Mahomes’ wife is a former soccer player and the two share an investment stake in both Sporting KC (MLS) and the Kansas City Current (MWSL). The Current joined the NWSL in 2022 as an expansion team post-pandemic and the Mahomes’ joined the ownership group in 2023.

Manning has an ownership stake in Gotham FC, formerly Sky Blue FC, of the NWSL, something he began in 2022. Gotham FC has been around for some time under alternate names and was a founding member of the NWSL in 2013.

Finally, in November 2023, Gotham FC won its first NWSL Championship.

Gotham FC’s 20424 home opener is April 14 against the Current, so Eli couldn’t resist playing taunting Mahomes ahead of the opener.

“Hey, Mahomes. You may have one more of these than me, but do you have one of these? I don’t think so,” Manning said. “See you at the home opener April 14th. Let’s go, Gotham!”

Sunday’s home opener will be fun to watch, and the banter between Manning and Mahomes will be in jest, both wanting nothing more than to promote and support the teams they own.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire reflects on Chiefs declining his fifth-year option

Clyde Edwards-Helaire reflected on the #Chiefs’ decision to decline his fifth-year option during a press conference held this week.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been busy throughout the offseason, adding to and maintaining their Super Bowl roster. One of the players returning in 2024 is running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who officially signed his new deal on Monday.

He addressed the media via Zoom after finalizing his contract at the Chiefs’ facility and discussed the mindset he had in free agency after Brett Veach declined to pick up his fifth-year option in 2023.

“You really just look at things and call a spade a spade,” Edwards-Helaire explained. “Looking at the [cap] number, looking at things, looking at cap space, as a football guy and a player, you see those things. Some people call it the writing on the wall, and I call it the actual sport we’re playing.

“In the same way Pat [Mahomes] was doing [his contract restructure] at some point, he knew he was gonna have to rearrange some things to get guys around that we feel like we will need in order to win a Super Bowl.”

Edwards-Helaire made it clear that he understands the business aspect of sports and didn’t let Veach’s decision on his option change his mentality heading into last season. He played a pivotal role in solidifying the running back position through midseason injuries.

Said Edwards-Helaire about Kansas City’s 2023 season:

“Numbers are numbers, things change. Obviously, [they] changed from 2019 numbers to 2020s, all the way going into 2023, [and] 2024. I was fortunate enough I’m a first-round pick, like I said, to have a second spot [to] call home. You know, a lot of those times, man, just being around football and seeing it, why don’t you don’t want to say the fifth-year options are rare, but it’s not one of those things that you see, like, oh, I know, that’s an automatic thing that’s always going to happen. So, I knew I was getting an opportunity to continue to play. You know, that fourth year wasn’t like I was getting cut. It was a next year’s contract was what has been this year. I just knew, as long as I got a chance to put on a helmet and put on pads, I was gonna have that opportunity to showcase what I needed to do to be back on his team.”

Last season, Edwards-Helaire started three of the 15 games he played, shifting between being a third-down back and starter while tallying 223 yards rushing and 188 yards receiving. He had one touchdown as a runner and another as a receiver.

And tomorrow he will say it’s Drake Maye.

Another day, another prediction for LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels to the Washington Commanders in the 2024 NFL draft.

On Monday’s edition of “The Herd,” Colin Cowherd said he’s been told the Commanders are taking Daniels with the second overall pick in this month’s NFL draft.

“Alright, I have been told the Washington Commanders, right now, as of today, would choose Jayden Daniels, LSU quarterback, as their top pick,” Cowherd said.

“In going back and forth, I’m told they believe he’s more consistent than Drake Maye. He is quicker, more mobile than Drake Maye. And offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who will have some say in this, has had multiple quarterbacks in his college and pro coaching career that play like him. Quarterbacks like Jayden Daniels are important; they are very hypermobile, and that matters a lot. Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson, as you’re trying to figure out the sophisticated NFL pocket, and all it asks, it gives you a couple of years to pick up first downs and move the sticks with your feet. Even Patrick Mahomes acknowledged the light didn’t truly go on until year three. But the ability to move, Washington has a bad offensive line, pick up first downs with those feet as you’re learning the game is important.”

Cowherd goes on and on about why Daniels should be the pick. But wait, I thought you were told he was the pick? So, were you told he was the pick, or are you saying that’s who Washington should pick?

So, unless Washington general manager Adam Peters told Cowherd that Daniels was the pick, this is another case of someone throwing something against the wall, hoping it sticks.

The world is amazed by the rare sight of a solar eclipse that occurred Monday afternoon. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was one of the millions witnessing history as his family moment was recorded.

The NFL’s official X account reposted the video of Mahomes and his daughter, Sterling Skye, watching the eclipse. His wife, Brittany, shot the video, capturing the wholesome moment along with the QB’s surprised reaction. The reigning Super Bowl MVP and his daughter were wearing protective eyewear during the process.

“Dang” was all that Mahomes could say to describe the historic moment. Many in the media labeled Monday’s event the Great North American Eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, concealing the Sun’s image for anyone watching on Earth.

The continental US isn’t expected to see another total solar eclipse until 2044 and 2045. There is a low chance that Mahomes will still be playing around the time of the next one, but Chiefs fans hope there could be more Super Bowl titles before then.

The Ravens totaled about 156.9 rush yards a game in 2023 through 541 carries. Their offense dominated tremendously on the ground, but this success should be heavily credited to the defense, which allowed opponents to score just 16.5 points per game.

With opponents held to low-scoring outputs, quarterback Lamar Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Monken were allowed to commit to running the ball. However, with their defensive secondary expected to take a few steps back, the offense may need to be even more dynamic this upcoming season,

Furthermore, the Ravens’ rush-by-committee approach now needs to be delegated proportionately.  Will Henry average 20 carries and Jackson 10? How will running back Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell fit into the equation?

Ultimately, while it is premature to give a swift answer to these preliminary questions, the Ravens need to consider building their secondary with the best defensive backs available in the upcoming NFL Draft. Ravens’ fans should celebrate the arrival of Henry; it wasn’t inadequacy in the run game that ended the Ravens’ season last year.

However, the historic 60-sack, 18-interception season is behind the Ravens’ defense, so offensive excellence may need to balance the books for a secondary that may digress. Henry may need to have his most remarkable season yet if the Ravens plan on returning to the AFC Championship.

Potential Commanders QB Jayden Daniels receives huge praise from multiple coaches

The praise keeps coming in for Jayden Daniels.

In his latest mock draft for The Athletic, Bruce Feldman made no outlandish predictions. Feldman, one of the most respected writers with high-level connections in college football and the NFL, has USC quarterback Caleb Williams going No. 1 overall to the Chicago Bears.

Who does Feldman project going No. 2 overall to the Washington Commanders?

That would be LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels. There are no surprises here. Regardless of what you hear about Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Washington is expected to choose between Daniels and North Carolina signal-caller Drake Maye.

Why does Feldman see Daniels landing in Washington? He calls it a hunch — which is not a report. As we mentioned, Feldman is well-connected.

Where it got interesting was what Feldman said regarding the “coaching intel he received on Daniels. Here’s the first bit of intel he provided:

I tell people this: Outside of Patrick Mahomes, I haven’t coached against someone like this. He’s just very hard to defend. We tried to force him to run it to take it out of his hands. The throws he makes and the timing he has, I thought was second to none. He throws the deep ball extremely accurately.

This isn’t Feldman comparing Daniels to Mahomes. The coach told Feldman that preparing against Daniels was almost as difficult as preparing to face Mahomes. Washington has lacked a quarterback that puts fear into opposing defenses for years.

The next coach:

As a junior (in 2022), he would just hang onto the ball, but he got so much better playing quarterback. Without him, with as bad as they were on defense, I think they’d win six games. Tops. If there’s a concern if you’re an NFL team, it’s that he will take some shots and he is narrow. How well will he hold up?

This is the type of improvement that encourages you about Daniels. He improved in each college season before his tremendous 2023 season. It’s reminiscent of former LSU — and fellow Heisman Trophy winner — Joe Burrow’s rise.

Finally, more talk on Daniels’ improvement:

He improved a lot. He’s a really good deep ball thrower with more than above-average arm strength. Those 15-, 20-yard touch throws were better than I thought. He didn’t look like he was that fast, but he just glides and runs by people, and he outruns their angles.

It remains to be seen if Daniels will be the pick. There is a lot of time remaining until the 2024 NFL draft. Could he be the leader? Sure. But so could Maye or even McCarthy. General manager Adam Peters has kept this close to the vest, which is unlikely to change. It’s doubtful anyone will know who the pick is until the Commanders turn the card in on April 25.

Carson Wentz on decision to sign with Chiefs: ‘Just seemed like a good fit’

Carson Wentz went into detail about his decision to sign with the #Chiefs during his introductory press conference in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Chiefs are adding new personnel to their Super Bowl-winning roster in hopes of the elusive three-peat. With so many injuries around the league last season, especially at the quarterback position, the importance of having depth can’t be ignored.

Earlier this week, the Chiefs agreed to terms on a one-year deal with veteran quarterback Carson Wentz to serve as Patrick Mahomes’ new backup. The former Pro Bowler, who is entering his ninth NFL season, spoke with reporters via Zoom on Thursday to explain his reasoning for signing with Kansas City.

“[There are] lots of unknowns about the future,” Wentz explained. “It’s all [about] taking one day at a time, first and foremost. But, you know, [there is] big intrigue in wanting to come here. Why I’m here today is just the winning culture and seeing it from afar.

“Seeing around the league for the last couple years, and just the culture that coach Reid has kind of set, and you see it and have admired it for years. That was a big piece of the puzzle for me and the desire to be here on a winning team, in a good culture, in a good community with a good fan base. Just seemed like a good fit.”

Wentz spent the 2023 season as a backup for the Los Angeles Rams, appearing in two games. He wasn’t on an NFL roster until November of last year, spending most of his time preparing for a phone call and questioning his future.

The 2024 NFL season is months away, but Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t want to wait much longer to test his arm with his new wide receiver. The three-time Super Bowl MVP was back on the field showing off his arm in a video with his newly signed teammate Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.

Mahomes posted a video of him tossing passes to Brown on his Instagram account and a highlight reel of a suspected independent workout. The video was accompanied by the Big Sean song Precision, and it appeared that the new teammates were already in sync.

The pair was spotted working out with trainer Bobby Stroupe last month, so a positive bond seems to have formed well before organized team activities.

Skyy Moore is also featured in the video. After a rough 2023, he hopes to significantly contribute to the team’s offensive plans in the upcoming season.

The Chiefs could still be in the market for a wide receiver during this month’s NFL Draft, but it’s good to see the current crop getting some early work under their belts.

Dobbins for a visit, a report comes that they are retaining their own running back from that draft class. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Clyde Edwards-Helaire has agreed to a one-year contract to remain in Kansas City.

Edwards-Helaire was a reliable option for the Chiefs last year after injuries to Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon held them out of the lineup for multiple games. In 2023 Edwards-Helaire started three of the 15 games he played, shifting between being a third-down back and starter while tallying 223 yards rushing and 188 yards receiving. He had one touchdown as a runner and another as a receiver.

The versatile running back rebounded tremendously after losing his starting job in 2022, becoming one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets.

After the Chiefs declined his fifth-year option last offseason, many critics assumed his days would be numbered in Kansas City. The value he showed last season made him an essential piece for the team moving forward as they seek a threepeat in 2024.
