Rutgers football is the first Power Five offer for Luke Wafle

Rutgers football the first Power Five offer for Luke Wafle.

Luke Wafle was offered by Rutgers football on Wednesday. The offer from the Scarlet Knights was the first from a Power Five program for Wafle.

It won’t be the last.

A class of 2025 recruit from The Hun School (Princeton, N.J)., Wafle checks in at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. He projects as a defensive end at the next level.

Wafle is just beginning to see his recruitment take off. In mid-April, he attended the Penn State annual spring game.

Playing both weak and strongside, Wafle is impressive with his burst off the edge. He has excellent pursuit as well as a frame that should be able to handle additional size and strength gains.

His older brother is class of 2024 recruit Owen Wafle, a defensive lineman who is committed to Notre Dame.

For Rutgers, the class of 2024 currently stands at seven commits following two verbals over the weekend from a pair of tight ends. The first commit came on Sunday from Michigan tight end Monte Keener, who made his decision a week removed from his visit to Rutgers. At the time of his commitment, Keener held Power Five offers from Indiana and Minnesota.

Then on Monday, Matthew Ogunniyi from Maryland committed to Rutgers. Ogunniyi recently was offered by Texas A&M just two weeks before he committed to the Scarlet Knights.

Son of Notre Dame legend commits to Irish

Like father like son!

Notre Dame landed its 12th commitment in the 2024 recruiting class on Saturday when defensive end [autotag]Bryce Young[/autotag] of Charlotte announced his intentions to play football for the Irish. Young is a mountain of young man. He stands 6 feet, 5 inches and checks in at 240 pounds.

Young has seen his recruiting profile grow in recent months. When originally offered by Notre Dame, he was rated as a three-star prospect across the board, but he has earned a fourth star from On3 and Rivals. He has also received offers from a few powerhouse programs, including Tennessee and USC.

Young is the son of Notre Dame great and pro football Hall of Famer [autotag]Bryant Young[/autotag] who starred for the Irish in the early 1990’s.  Bryant was drafted seventh by the 49ers in the 1994 NFL draft before going on to a legendary career that included a Super Bowl 29 win.

Bryce chose Notre Dame while holding several offers. The aforementioned Tennessee and USC programs stick out as do Michigan, Miami and Penn State on his offer list.

Young is the 12th commitment in Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class and joins [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag] and [autotag]Cole Mullins[/autotag] as defensive linemen in the class.

Report: Notre Dame will host 5-star defensive end in early June

The Irish will official host one of the nations best players

At the current moment, [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] football has one of the best 2024 recruiting classes in the nation. With eight current commits, Irish head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] is looking to continue to add to the already impressive group.

One of the players they are targeting is Arizona defensive end [autotag]Elijah Rushing[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 6-inch and 235 pound edge defender is viewed as one of the best players in the country, ranking as the second edge and 18th overall player in the nation by the 247Sports composite.

Today, according to multiple outlets, Rushing has scheduled an official visit to South Bend from June 9-11th.

At the current moment, [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag] is the only defensive end committed in the class and Rushing would be the top rated commit if he were to join.

Oklahoma offers 2024 Notre Dame commit Owen Wafle

Oklahoma Sooners extend an offer to 2024 four-star defensive lineman Owen Wafle. From @thatmanbryant

Oklahoma’s exploits up and down the east coast continue as one of their newest offers goes out to New Jersey, where they offered four-star 2024 Notre Dame commit Owen Wafle. Wafle is a heavier EDGE than most as he sits at 6-foot-3 and around 270 pounds, according to 247Sports.

With that size and how physical he plays, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Wafle wouldn’t slide inside if he became a Sooner. His primary recruiter is defensive tackles coach Todd Bates, so interior defensive line could be his home

Brian Doh of 247Sports had this to say about Wafle.

Thick build with plus length and has frame to add 20 to 30 pounds and remain effective with speed and agility. Has versatility to play on edge or increase size and move inside on defensive line of scrimmage. Has low center of gravity and plays low to win leverage. Has snaps on both sides of ball as fullback and defensive lineman. Strong, physical, hard-nosed player with strong work ethic. Showed ability to bend during spring workout. Ferocious style of play evident during in-game eval in fall 2021. Gets off quickly at snap and covers ground well in first three steps. Shows stack-and-shed ability. Relies heavily on power and strength and often wins leverage by sinking hips. Plays with high effort and has strong work ethic.  Multi-year starter at high-level program. Has late round NFL draft potential. – Dohn, 247 National Recruiting Analyst

Wafle shows athletic ability as he has played fullback and tight end along with his defensive duties. Wafle’s commitment to the Fighting Irish came in May, and has also added an offer from Duke.

There’s a long way to go before signing day for the class of 2024, which gives Oklahoma a bit of an opening to try and work itself into the picture.

Illinois 2024 Notre Dame target set to announce commitment tomorrow

Will the Irish be happy tomorrow?

The time has come for suburban Chicago wide receiver [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] to make his verbal pledge. Having known Williams since his freshman year, I can attest that his skill level is high and will be an impact player at the next level.

Not only have I seen Williams in camp settings, but also in-game where his skill set really shined. An extremely smooth route running, with great hands and body control, the six-foot-two-inch receiver will be an asset for either Iowa, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Michigan or Notre Dame. Williams will go live on CBS Sports HQ to announce his verbal pledge, at 8:00pm EST.

Currently the Irish have four commitments for the 2024 recruiting class: quarterback [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag], defensive ends [autotag]Brandon Davis-Swain[/autotag] and [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag], and tight end [autotag]Jack Larsen[/autotag].

Top 2024 Florida wide receiver sets visit date to Notre Dame

The Irish are getting a Florida star on campus next month

Recruiting never sleeps, it just doesn’t. For [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and Notre Dame, they are taking full advantage of momentum on the recruiting trail, having a stellar 2023 class and a fantastic start to the 2024 cycle.

The current crop of soon to be juniors are starting their evaluations of schools and the Irish are among many of their top choices. Already defensive ends [autotag]Brandon Davis-Swain[/autotag] and [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag] have committed, with Freeman looking too continue to add on to the class.

With that in mind the Irish got some great news this afternoon, as Florida wide receiver [autotag]Bredell Richardson[/autotag] has set a date for an unofficial visit to South Bend.

The six-foot-one-inch and 185-pound Sunshine State star already hold over 40 verbal offers from schools like Alabama, LSU, Penn State and of course Notre Dame. It does seem like Richardson is making a Midwest tour, as he also announced a visit to Michigan also on June 3rd.

Reading into the schedule visits, it may seem like Richardson is a bit higher on the Irish at the moment, spending a day-and-a-half there. Time will tell if that is the right read, but at the current moment it looks like the Irish have a lot of time to wow Richardson during his visit.

Tennessee 2024 cornerback will visit Notre Dame in June

The Irish are getting an unofficial

The 2024 recruiting class is still a ways from their signing day, but that doesn’t mean that teams and recruits are waiting to make decisions. The Irish already have two commitments in that cycle, defensive end’s [autotag] Brandon Davis-Swain[/autotag] and [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag].

[autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has been great during his tenure on the recruiting trail and it seems like that is not going to stop anytime soon. Yet another example of this is ‘24 cornerback [autotag]Kaleb Beasley[/autotag], a six-foot-two-inch and 180-pound cornerback who holds offers from the Irish, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, LSU, Auburn and others announcing today that he will be visiting South Bend on June 5th.

The Tennessee star is not going to be easy to get out of SEC country, but the Irish are making an impression with Beasley. They are one of two non-SEC teams currently on his visit list, the other being Oklahoma. It is still early, but Notre Dame getting a visit is definitely a good sign.

Oklahoma athlete sets Notre Dame official visit date

Yet another talented prospect is expected to visit South Bend

First-year head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] has done a phenomenal job in his first full recruiting cycle. Just this month the Irish have added defensive end [autotag]Devan Houstan[/autotag] and offensive tackle [autotag]Sullivan Absher[/autotag] in the 2023 class and defensive end [autotag]Owen Wafle[/autotag] in the 2024 cycle.

Multiple big time commitments has led the 2023 class to be viewed as one of the best in the country to this point. Freeman is not taking his foot off the recruiting gas pedal as yet another big time player has their eyes on Notre Dame. Just today, Oklahoma athlete [autotag]Micah Tease[/autotag] announced that he will be visiting South Bend next month, from the 9th through the 12th of June.

At five-foot-eleven-inches, Tease is viewed as a running back first, but could end up as a slot receiver as well. [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] is stepping up the offensive recruiting and it shows. Although it seems like Oklahoma is Tease’s leader, the Irish getting an official visit could go a long way.
