Titans’ Jamal Adams out, DeAndre Hopkins questionable vs. Bears

The Tennessee Titans ruled S Jamal Adams and one other out, and WR DeAndre Hopkins and one other questionable vs. Chicago in Week 1.

The Tennessee Titans open the 2024 regular season against the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.

After battling injuries most of training camp, the Titans are relatively healthy heading into the opener. However, there are still some lingering questions pertaining to some veterans.

Safety Jamal Adams (hip) did not practice for the third day and has been ruled out. Wide Receiver DeAndre Hopkins (knee), linebacker Otis Reese (concussion), and recently added to the injury report, cornerback Chidobe Awuzie (calf), were limited participants.

Full injury reports for both the Titans and Bears can be found below.

Titans injury report: safety Jamal Adams out, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins works again

The Tennessee Titans practiced Thursday and star wide receiver again took part, trending toward being available against the Chicago Bears.

The Tennessee Titans hit the practice field Thursday to continue preparing for Week 1 when they take on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday.

Star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins again participated, although he was sporting a sleeve on his injured knee, which was not visible during Wednesday’s practice. When asked by A to Z Sports Nashville about his status, he replied.

“We’ll see Sunday!”

Once again, safety Jamal Adams did not participate. He is recovering from a hip injury and was not present.

Did not participate: Jamal Adams (hip)

Limited participant: WR DeAndre Hopkins (knee), LB Otis Reese (Concussion)

Titans injury report: DeAndre Hopkins returns, Jamal Adams does not practice

The Tennessee Titans released their first injury report of the season and see their star wide receiver return to the field.

The Tennessee Titans returned to the practice field to start wrapping up preparations for the season opener against the Chicago Bears, and it provided an opportunity to see where several of the team’s injured players are.

All eyes were on wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who has been battling a knee injury for most of the preseason, as he returned to the field in a limited capacity. This was a positive sign for Sunday because prior to practice, head coach Brian Callahan was optimistic but unsure if he would be available.

“So, we should have guys, everyone should be at practice, and we’ll see how much they do, where they’re at. I feel pretty good about (it), but can’t make any guarantees, so see how it goes,”  Callahan said.

Things appear to be trending in the right direction, and the Titans welcome that after struggling to see players stay healthy in camp.

The Titans’ Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: Jamal Adams (hip)

Limited participant: WR DeAndre Hopkins (knee), LB Otis Reese (Concussion)

Titans LB Otis Reese gets a shoutout in Baldy’s Breakdowns

Titans LB Otis Reese was highlighted in one of Baldy’s Breakdowns on Tuesday.

Tennessee Titans 2023 undrafted free-agent signing and linebacker Otis Reese received some attention during the preseason when head coach Mike Vrabel was downright giddy while expressing his excitement to watch the Ole Miss product play.

“I cannot wait to watch O-T-I-S in that preseason game and playing fast,” Vrabel said. “When he triggers — he triggered yesterday in the bubble and came through — there’s a level of play speed that when he is sure of where he’s going, is pretty cool.

“Excited for him to be able to go out there and play fast and see where he can find a role on special teams and watch him cover some kicks and watch him play on the punt return, and all those good things.”

Reese went on to make the Titans’ initial 53-man roster and played on special teams in the first two games of the season but was ultimately waived and  then brought back on the practice squad, where he remained until a promotion in Week 14.

With injuries at linebacker, Reese has gotten the opportunity to start the last two weeks and had his best game of the 2023 campaign in Week 17, when he tallied 10 tackles, the second-most on the team.

Reese caught the eye of NFL Network analyst, Brian Baldinger, who lauded him for the play speed and motor Vrabel talked about in the aforementioned quote.

Check out Reese being featured in Baldy’s Breakdowns below.

Reese will likely stick with the Titans and be in line for a special teams role in 2024. But perhaps he’ll be considered for a bit more if he can finish the season strong and show out in training camp later this year.

Titans promote Otis Reese, add 2 to practice squad

The Titans promoted Otis Reese to the active roster and officially added punter Ty Zentner to the practice squad.

The Tennessee Titans announced a trio of moves on Wednesday, with one of them being the signing of punter Ty Zentner to the practice squad.

The signing of Zentner was reported earlier in the day. Here’s what I wrote about him after news broke of him being added to the practice squad:

An undrafted free-agent signing of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023 out of Kansas State, Zentner lost a training camp battle against Arryn Siposs, which led to his being waived and then signed by the Houston Texans.

Zentner appeared in four games for the Texans, attempting 14 punts in that span. He tallied a gross average yards per punt of 42.1 and a net average of 38.6.

The 25-year-old was then waived following the Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after punter Cameron Johnston returned from injury.

This is Reese’s second stint on the active roster this season after he initially made the 53-man roster out of training camp before later being waived and brought back on the practice squad.

He’ll take the roster spot of fellow linebacker and now-former Titan, Monty Rice, who was waived on Tuesday. Reese has appeared in two games for Tennessee this season, with all of his snaps coming on special teams.

In addition to adding Zentner and promoting Reese, the Titans also added linebacker JoJo Domann to the practice squad. The Nebraska product last played in 2022 with the Indianapolis Colts, appearing in 16 games while playing only on special teams.

Titans promote Justin Murray to active roster among 5 moves

The Titans announced five roster moves on Tuesday, including the promotion of OL Justin Murray to the active roster.

The Tennessee Titans announced five roster moves on Tuesday, one of which included the promotion of offensive lineman Justin Murray from the practice squad to the active roster.

Murray, who has experience playing guard and tackle, was with the Titans during the offseason but didn’t make the team after final cuts. After being released, Murray was brought back on the practice squad and has been elevated twice this year.

Along with the promotion of Murray to the active roster from the practice squad, the Titans also placed two players on injured reserve and signed two players to the practice squad.

Here’s a look at the other four moves, along with some information on each player.

Report: Titans signing LB Otis Reese to practice squad

The Titans are reportedly bringing LB Otis Reese back on the practice squad.

After waiving him just a few days ago, the Tennessee Titans are bringing back 2023 undrafted free agent and linebacker, Otis Reese.

According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Titans are re-signing Reese to the practice squad. He was waived on Saturday when the Titans promoted wide receiver Mason Kinsey and linebacker Chance Campbell.

His return to the Titans is no surprise.

Reese was a favorite of head coach Mike Vrabel during training camp and the preseason, and the Ole Miss product eventually earned his way on to the initial 53-man roster, which was one of the bigger surprises.

“I cannot wait to watch O-T-I-S in that preseason game and playing fast,” Vrabel said in August. “When he triggers — he triggered yesterday in the bubble and came through — there’s a level of play speed that when he is sure of where he’s going, is pretty cool.”

The 25-year-old played in each of the first two games of the season, seeing 32 special teams snaps. He recorded one tackle.

Titans promote Mason Kinsey, put Kearis Jackson on IR among 4 moves

Titans WR Mason Kinsey has been promoted to the active roster among 4 moves made Friday.

The Tennessee Titans made a total of four roster moves on the Friday before their Week 3 game against the Cleveland Browns.

After suffering an ankle injury at practice during the week, wide receiver Kearis Jackson has been placed on injured reserve, the team announced. Jackson will miss at least the next four games.

Taking his spot on the roster is fellow wide receiver Mason Kinsey, who was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. Chances are Kinsey will handle punt and/or kick return duties while Jackson is out.

Now, a look at the rest of the moves the Titans made on Friday.

Titans’ Mike Vrabel loves him so ‘O-T-I-S’ Reese

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel was borderline giddy when talking about UDFA linebacker Otis Reese on Friday.

If Tennessee Titans 2023 undrafted free-agent signing and linebacker Otis Reese IV had a fan club, head coach Mike Vrabel would probably be the president.

Reese, who played his college ball at Ole Miss, has apparently impressed Vrabel quite a bit during the offseason, and in particular when it comes to special teams, which is the fastest way to Vrabes’ heart.

Don’t believe me? Just look at what Vrabel, who seemed downright giddy over Reese, had to say about him after practice on Friday.

To back up Vrabel’s praise, Jim Wyatt of Titans Online noted in his practice observations from Thursday that Reese stood out.

Linebacker Otis Reese IV nearly came up with an interception in 7-on-7s, and he blew up a reverse by being in the right spot. It was also good day for Otis.

Normally, we definitely take note of praise from a coach but don’t look too deep into it. However, this kind of enthusiastic endorsement from Vrabel is definitely more noteworthy than most and now makes Reese someone to keep a closer eye on moving forward.

The Titans have quite a crowded linebackers room with guys like Azeez Al-Shaair, Monty Rice, Jack Gibbens, Luke Gifford, Ben Niemann and Chance Campbell — and the team only figures to carry four, maybe five.

Reese still has an uphill climb in making the cut, but perhaps it isn’t an steep as we once thought.

Former UGA DB enters 2023 NFL draft

Ole Miss defensive back Otis Reese, who started his college career at Georgia, has elected to declare for the 2023 NFL draft.

Former Georgia football defensive back Otis Reese elected to declare for the 2023 NFL draft.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound defensive back recorded 84 tackles, three sacks and forced a pair of turnovers this past season with the Ole Miss Rebels. Reese entered the transfer portal shortly after the 2019 college football season.

Reese recorded over 80 tackles in each of the past two seasons at Ole Miss. He recorded just 16 tackles during his career from 2018-2019 at Georgia.

The former four-star recruit from Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia, had a much larger role at Ole Miss than he did at Georgia.

Reese announced that he would be entering the 2023 NFL draft via Twitter. Reese thanked both Georgia and Ole Miss in his message:
