Titans promote Justin Murray to active roster among 5 moves

The Titans announced five roster moves on Tuesday, including the promotion of OL Justin Murray to the active roster.

The Tennessee Titans announced five roster moves on Tuesday, one of which included the promotion of offensive lineman Justin Murray from the practice squad to the active roster.

Murray, who has experience playing guard and tackle, was with the Titans during the offseason but didn’t make the team after final cuts. After being released, Murray was brought back on the practice squad and has been elevated twice this year.

Along with the promotion of Murray to the active roster from the practice squad, the Titans also placed two players on injured reserve and signed two players to the practice squad.

Here’s a look at the other four moves, along with some information on each player.

Titans elevate Jaleel Johnson, Justin Murray for Week 3

The Titans have elevated DL Jaleel Johnson and OL Justin Murray for their Week 3 game.

The Tennessee Titans made a pair of practice squad elevations ahead of their Week 3 game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon.

The team announced it is elevating defensive lineman Jaleel Johnson and offensive lineman Justin Murray from the practice squad. Both players will revert back to the practice squad after the game.

Murray was elevated last week and is once again serving as extra depth with left guard Peter Skoronski sidelined due to an appendectomy that kept him out of last week’s game, also.

Johnson was signed to the practice squad during the week after spending the offseason with the Titans. He’s depth insurance just in case fellow defensive lineman Denico Autry doesn’t suit up. Autry is listed as questionable due to foot and groin injuries.

Along with Autry, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and cornerback Anthony Kendall are also questionable. Along with Skoronski, wide receiver Kearis Jackson was ruled out and has since been placed on injured reserve.

Titans elevate Justin Murray, Kyle Peko from practice squad for Week 1

The Titans are elevating two players from the practice squad for Week 1.

The Tennessee Titans have made a pair of standard practice squad elevations for their Week 1 game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Titans announced they are elevating offensive lineman Justin Murray, who will give them added depth at guard and tackle if active, and defensive lineman Kyle Peko.

Murray, who was originally signed by the Titans in August, made the team’s 53-man roster before being released and brought back on the practice squad.

Peko appeared in eight games (three starts) for the Titans in 2021, tallying 10 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble.

He and the Titans reunited this offseason during training camp, when the team was dealing with multiple injuries upfront. He failed to make the 53-man roster but was re-signed to the practice squad.

Tennessee will open its 2023 campaign on Sunday afternoon in the Caesars Superdome against the New Orleans Saints, with kickoff set for noon CT.

Titans worked out 4 players on Saturday, including 2 DTs

The Titans worked out four players on Saturday, two of which were defensive linemen.

The Tennessee Titans worked out four players on Saturday in the hopes of finding someone who can help to improve the depth along the trenches on both sides of the ball.

According to the league’s transactions wire, defensive tackles Jalen Dalton and Khalil Davis, and offensive tackles Rashaad Coward and Justin Murray all received a look from the Titans on Saturday.

Murray apparently did well enough to earn himself a contract with the team following his workout, as the Titans announced they had signed him in the afternoon.

It was well known the Titans were in the market for an offensive lineman, especially after the release of Jamarco Jones. However, the team taking a look at defensive linemen is something new.

The interest likely has something to do with Naquan Jones missing practice on Friday and the Titans possibly needing camp bodies moving forward.

Dalton appeared in seven games for the Atlanta Falcons last season, so he has the Arthur Smith connection. He played 145 defensive snaps and 33 special teams snaps, tallying 13 tackles (one for loss).

Davis is a former sixth-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 and has played in just three contests during his career, with his most recent game coming in 2021 with the Indianapolis Colts.

As for Coward, he’s played in 38 games (20 starts) over his career since he entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017.

Interestingly enough, he’s actually played on both sides of the ball in that span, but the vast majority of his snaps have come at guard and tackle. He was listed as a tackle on the transactions wire, also. Clearly the Titans preferred Murray over the Old Dominion product.

Titans agree to terms with OL Justin Murray

The Titans are grabbing all the Murrays this week, with the team agreeing to terms with Justin Murray on Saturday.

The Tennessee Titans are apparently in the market for Murrays this week, as the team has added their second in the last few days.

According to Jim Wyatt of Titans Online, the team has agreed to terms with offensive lineman Justin Murray, just days after they inked center Jimmy Murray.

The former Murray will take the roster spot of recently released offensive lineman, Jamarco Jones.

Wyatt notes in his write-up for the move that this Murray is expected to enter into the competition at right tackle, where veteran Chris Hubbard is currently considered the favorite, based solely on experience.

A former undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati, Murray has played in 37 games over his five-year career, starting in 20 of them. He has played mostly at tackle but does have some experience at guard.

He started in 12 of 14 games played in 2019 for the Arizona Cardinals at right tackle. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound lineman produced PFF grades of 67.3 in pass protection, 54.2 in run-blocking and 62.9 overall.

The 30-year-old has played in just eight games (one start) the past two seasons, though.

Raiders waive TE OJ Howard, re-sign QB Chase Garbers

TE OJ Howard among 3 waived as Raiders bring back QB Chase Garbers

Apparently to ring in the first day in pads, the Raiders made a string of moves. The team waived several players today including tight end OJ Howard.

Howard was one of the team’s early free agent signings this offseason and was expected to be the third tight end on the roster behind Michael Mayer and Austin Hooper. So, it’s a bit of a surprise that he was released.

In fact, the Raiders had an in-house interview with Howard not two days ago with the tweet reading that Howard is “ready to show out the Silver and Black.”

So, yeah, this is awkward. Maybe they meant ‘ready to be shown out’?

In an apparent corresponding move, the quarterback Chase Garbers has been re-signed by the team according to his agent.

Previous reports had the Raiders signing former Chiefs LB Darius Harris, which means there should be one more addition either not yet official or coming down the pike. We’ll keep you updated.

Bills sign OL Justin Murray, place Tommy Doyle on injured reserve

#Bills sign OL Justin Murray, place Tommy Doyle on injured reserve:

The Buffalo Bills have addressed their offensive line depth.

The team announced on Tuesday that lineman Justin Murray was signed.

Murray’s addition comes amid some health concerns the Bills are having in the trenches. The corresponding move Buffalo made highlights that.

The team also officially placed Tommy Doyle (ACL) on injured reserve. His season is over.

Murray, 29, spent the past three years with the Arizona Cardinals. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016 with the Denver Broncos, spending time on the practice squad.

Murray made his NFL debut with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2018.

A versatile piece, Murray has spent most of his career on the right side of the offensive line. He made 12 starts at right tackle in 2019 and then made seven in 2020 at right guard.

Doyle had previously been a depth option for Buffalo on the right side of their offensive line. Doyle was injured in Week 3 when he was filling in for right guard Ryan Bates (concussion).

OL Justin Murray out 2-3 weeks with ankle injury

Murray will miss at least the Cardinals’ preseason opener.

The Arizona Cardinals made a move to sign offensive lineman Rashaad Coward after he tried out on Monday. The team needed depth on the offensive line.

Already without left tackle D.J. Humphries, who is dealing with a stomach illness that has kept him out of practice thus far in training camp, and not giving center Rodney Hudson a full practice load early on, they are going to be without backup guard/tackle Justin Murray.

Murray did not practice Saturday or Monday. He is going to miss some time.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury told reporters Tuesday he hoped Murray could return in “two to three weeks.” After initially saying it was back injury (which is what ended his season in 2021 after only three games) Kingsbury corrected himself to say that it is an ankle injury Murray sustained.

With that timetable, Murray will miss at least the preseason opener and perhaps their first two preseason contests.

Starting RG job for appears to be 2-man battle in 2022 for now

Without any other free agent signings or high draft pick used at guard, Josh Jones and Justin Murray will have an offseason position battle to start at RG.

The Arizona Cardinals have not yet done anything in free agency to address their offensive line. All they have done thus far is renegotiate the contract of Justin Pugh to keep him on the roster as the team’s starting left guard.

Of the five starting jobs on the offensive line, one is up in the air — right guard.

As of right now, because no one has been signed in free agency and the draft has not happened, it appears that the job will be a battle between two players — Josh Jones and Justin Murray.

Max Garcia is a free agent still and the Cardinals could draft someone in the first round who presumably could start, but Murray and Jones appear to be the guys right now.

Jones got his first experience at guard last season and had ups and downs. He is a player the team is counting on to step up this next season.

Murray is a guy the coaches trust at guard and at tackle. He only played in three games last season before a back injury ended his season.

Murray perhaps is a better fit to be a reserve because of his versatility and the Cardinals are high on Jones, although he originally was expected to be a tackle. The signing of and play of Kelvin Beachum at right tackle made it so Jones needed to learn another position to be able to play.

If the Cardinals don’t make financial or draft commitment to another guard of significance, it will be one of the more interesting position battles to watch as the offseason program begins.
