Signing Day Tracker: Updates on recruits to sign with Oregon Ducks

The early signing period has finally arrived. Here is an updated list of who has agreed to become an Oregon Duck.

Early Signing Day has finally arrived, and a number of high-profile recruits are putting in their letters of intent and joining new teams.

For the Oregon Ducks, this day is particularly interesting, because it gives us a chance to see which players have agreed to stay true on their verbal commitments and hop onto the Dan Lanning train to Eugene. While Lanning is an excellent recruiter, we still don’t quite know what type of class he will bring in during his first year because of the lateness of his hiring.

So which recruits will agree to officially join the Ducks this week? We’ve got an updated list for you:

5-star CB Daylen Everette decommits from Clemson

Five-star cornerback Daylen Everette decommitted from Clemson after Brent Venables took the head coaching job with Oklahoma.

Five-star cornerback recruit Daylen Everette has decommitted from the Clemson Tigers. Everette decided to reopen his recruitment after former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables decided to take the head coaching job with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Georgia Bulldogs were among the top five schools in the hunt to secure a commitment from five-star defensive back Daylen Everette.

The University of Georgia offered Everette a scholarship early in his recruiting process in December 2019. Everette is a member of the class of 2022 and plays football at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Before transferring to IMG Academy, Everette played football at Norview High School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Now, Everette committed to Clemson over Georgia, UNC, Oregon, and FSU. back on July 17.

Everette has a background running track and is ranked as one of the top prospects in the country. He is the No. 29 prospect in his class and the No. 6 cornerback recruit.

The five-star corner visited Alabama following his decommitment. The Crimson Tide are certainly in the mix for Everette. UGA already has commitments from three cornerbacks in the class of 2022, so it would be unlikely for the Dawgs to take many more, but Everette has the talent to fit into any recruiting class.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior has an elite list of offers, including from  Florida, LSU, Oklahoma and Miami.

Report: 4-star CB Jalil Tucker is ‘solid’ on commitment to Oregon

4-star CB and Oregon commit Jalil Tucker said over the weekend that he is “solid” on the Ducks, but doesn’t plan to sign this week.

It appears that the hiring of head coach Dan Lanning is already having an effect for the Oregon Ducks.

On Sunday afternoon, it was reported by The Oregonian’s Andrew Nemec that 4-star defensive back Jalil Tucker is “solid” in his commitment to the Ducks. Despite this, he still doesn’t plan to sign in the early signing period, which takes place later this week.

Tucker is a player that many Oregon fans thought would reopen his recruitment his past week after former head coach Mario Cristobal left town for the Miami Hurricanes. Tucker was targeted heavily by the USC Trojans, as was high school teammate and fellow Oregon commit Jahlil Florence, over the past week.

As one of the top recruiters in the nation, there is a belief and hope that Lanning will be able to stabilize the recruiting class for Oregon ahead of the early signing day on Wednesday. We will see if that happens.

Ducks’ new coach Dan Lanning ranks No. 8 in national football recruiter rankings

Losing Mario Cristobal’s recruiting ability certainly hurt. However, Dan Lanning is among the best in the nation at getting high-end commits.

While the majority of the Oregon Ducks fanbase was not sad to see the in-game coach of Mario Cristobal leave early last week, the entirety of the program was devastated to see his recruiting ability leave Eugene.

Fortunately, the Ducks made a big hire at the head coaching spot on Saturday afternoon, bringing University of Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning to Oregon, making him the youngest head coach in Ducks history at just 35 years old.

On top of Lanning’s youth and defensive excellence, it has been made clear that he can recruit as well as the best coaches in the nation. According to 247 Sports’ 2022 Football Recruiter Rankings, Lanning ranks No. 8 in the nation when it comes to assistants with the abilities to bring talent in. In the past year, Lanning has brought in 7 commits with an average grade of 93.92.

In comparison, the Ducks didn’t have any coaches in the top 50 of the rankings this past season.

Back before he became the head coach at Oregon and was regarded for his recruiting abilities, Cristobal was ranked No. 6 in 2017, and No. 7 in 2016 during his final season with Alabama.

While it always hurts to lose a solid recruiter like Cristobal, being able to replace him with someone like Lanning is an extreme perk. We will see over the next couple of months how well he is able to build back this recruiting class for the Ducks.

Locked in? An update on where these high-profile Oregon Duck’s recruits currently stand

Locked in? Still Considering? Gone for good? Where do things currently stand with the players committed to Oregon in 2022?

Ever since head coach Mario Cristobal announced on Monday morning that he would be leaving Eugene to take his dream job with the Miami Hurricanes, the Oregon Ducks have been scrambling to get a lot of things done.

While the search for a new head coach is at the top of the list of things to do, finding a way to secure recruits who are already committed to the Ducks, as well as grab any other players who are considering Oregon holds some massive importance as well. In the hours after Cristobal left, we saw some big-time de-commitments, including 4-star QB Tanner Bailey, 4-star LB TJ Dudley, and 5-star OT Kelvin Banks.

But where does the rest of the class stand? In the days following Cristobal’s departure, news has come out about several recruits who are either announcing that they are “locked in” on Oregon, or reopening their recruiting. We parsed through all of the names and separated them into a trio of categories for you to piece through: Solid, Considering, and Gone.

Here’s how the lists look:

Solid on Oregon

4-star LB Devon Jackson

After the de-commitments from the trio of players mentioned above, it left Devon Jackson as one of the top recruits left in Oregon’s class of 2022. Losing Jackson would be tough since he is ranked as the No. 15 linebacker in the nation, and the No. 152 player in the class.

Luckily, it came out on Wednesday that Jackson is reportedly still locked in on the Ducks.

4-star WR Tetairoa McMillan

While news was coming out left and right about high-profile recruits de-committing from Oregon, it was 4-star WR Tetairoa McMillan who gave Duck fans a little bit of relief. Here is a quote from 247 Sports’ story about T-Mac sticking with Oregon:

“It’s been wild,” McMillan said. “My phone is blowing up right now. I’ve heard a lot from USC as well as Arizona and Clemson. Right now, my plan is to stay committed and I still want to go to Oregon.

“That’s my first choice and I love it there. I’m not sure about taking any other visits, I haven’t really thought about it yet. Hopefully, Oregon hires a new head coach soon though so I have time to meet with him since I’m signing early and an early graduate too.”

4-star DL Gracen Halton

Gracen Halton is a non-glamorous player to stick with the Ducks, but one who is incredibly important for the defense, especially after losing 4-star LB TJ Dudley. Halton is ranked as the No. 33 DL in the class, and he said on Wednesday that he will be sticking with the Ducks going forward.

3-star DL Ben Roberts

You may remember Ben Roberts as the former member of the Washington Huskies 2022 recruiting class who flipped to the Ducks as all of the drama ensued up in Montlake. Earlier this week, he informed Oregon fans that he isn’t planning to flip once again due to the coaching change with the Ducks. Here is an excerpt about Roberts via 247 Sports:

Ben Roberts, the four-star defensive lineman from Salt Lake City (Utah) East, committed to Oregon back in early September after backing off a prior pledge to Washington. He took his official visit to Eugene at the end of November and, following a meeting with recruiting assistants Don Johnson and JR Moala, plans to sign with the Ducks next week.

3-star DL Sir Mells

Sir Mells is another big-time DL to stick with the Ducks after this coaching change. As the No. 124 player in Nevada, he announced this week that he doesn’t plan on going anywhere but Eugene.

5-star OT Kelvin Banks Jr. latest Oregon recruit to de-commit from Ducks

5-star OT Kelvin Banks, who was Oregon’s highest-rated offensive line commit in school history, announced he is de-committing from the Ducks.

The third Oregon Ducks recruit to de-commit from the team on Monday might have hurt the most.

It was announced on Monday afternoon that 5-star OT Kelvin Banks Jr, who is the No. 14 player in the 2022 class and the No. 2 OT, is de-committing from the Ducks and re-opening his recruitment.

When Banks committed to Oregon earlier this season, he stood as the highest-rated offensive lineman to ever agree to come to Eugene. Mario Cristobal was huge in his decision, as a former offensive lineman and OL coach. Now that Cristobal is gone, Banks is decided to re-evaluate and make sure to find the school that is right for him.

In the past month, Banks has gone on official visits to both the University of Texas, and Texas A&M.

The other two players to de-commit on Monday were 4-star QB Tanner Bailey, and 4-star LB TJ Dudley.

4-star LB TJ Dudley de-commits from Oregon Ducks

Down goes another one. 4-star LB TJ Dudley announced that he is de-committing from Oregon after Cristobal’s departure.

The second major de-commitment of the day came on Monday afternoon, with 4-star LB TJ Dudley announcing that he will be opening up his recruiting following the news that head coach Mario Cristobal is leaving Oregon and heading to the Miami Hurricanes.

Dudley, who is the No. 21 linebacker in the 2022 class, was one of the top recruits for the Ducks this season.

“I sill will be evaluating Oregon as this process continues,” Dudley wrote on Twitter, signaling that he might choose the Ducks once again, based on who they decide to name their next head coach. With early signing day just over a week out, though, it may be tough to get someone in place with enough time to convince recruits to stay in Eugene.

Dudley is the second de-commit for Oregon on Monday, with 4-star QB Tanner Bailey also announcing on Monday that he would be re-opening his recruitment.

Report: 4-star WR Tetairoa McMillan offers update on commitment to Oregon Ducks

Tetairoa McMillan is a high-profile recruit that Oregon can’t afford to lose. He offered an update on where he stands today.

After former head coach Mario Cristobal announced on Monday morning that he would be leaving the Oregon Ducks and heading to South Beach to coach for his alma mater Miami Hurricanes, the attention of many Duck fans turned to recruiting.

A number of players are expected to reconsider their commitments to the Ducks over the coming days, with early signing day just over a week away. Without a head coach, Oregon is at risk of losing a number of high-profile commits, like 4-star QB Tanner Bailey, who announced early on Monday morning that he is opening up his recruitment once again.

Fortunately for the Ducks, it appears now that 4-star wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is still solid on his commitment to the Ducks. According to 247 Sports’ Greg Biggins, the Servite senior who is the No. 4 WR in the nation is not changing his mind after the departure of Cristobal.

“It’s been wild,” McMillan said. “My phone is blowing up right now. I’ve heard a lot from USC as well as Arizona and Clemson. Right now, my plan is to stay committed and I still want to go to Oregon.

That’s a relief if you’re an Oregon fan. While there are still a number of players who could flip in the coming days and find elsewhere to play, I think we can feel pretty solid that T-Mac will be coming to Eugene.

9 recruits the Oregon Ducks should be worried about de-committing after Cristobal departure

One high-profile recruit already de-committed from Oregon, and more are likely to follow. That’s just the nature of the business.

The tough news came out on Monday morning that Oregon Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal was leaving Eugene to take the job with the Miami Hurricanes.

While there are a lot of ramifications that will come with this decision, one of the most notable will be a potential mass exodus of recruits that have committed to Oregon. With the early signing period coming up in about two weeks, the Ducks will need to move quickly to try and secure the recruits they have and convince them to sign with Oregon.

Already on Monday, we saw the first recruit de-commit, with 4-star QB Tanner Bailey saying that he will be opening up his recruitment once again after Cristobal and OC Joe Moorhead’s departure. There’s a good chance that more players will follow over the next week.

The start of what we expect to be a mass exodus of recruits from the Oregon Ducks football program has begun following the news that head coach Mario Cristobal is leaving Eugene to take a job with the Miami Hurricanes.

4-star Oregon Ducks QB commit Tanner Bailey announced on Monday morning that he was de-committing from the Ducks and opening up his recruitment.

According to 247 Sports, Bailey was the No. 16 QB recruit in the 2022 class.

Bailey was recruited by both Cristobal and former OC Joe Moorhead, who recently left Eugene to take the head coaching job at Akron.

It comes as no shock to see Bailey de-commit from the Ducks, and he surely won’t be the last recruit to do so. The next couple of weeks could be tough for Oregon fans as we get closer to early-signing period and continue a search for a new coaching staff.
