4-star WR Justius Lowe to enroll early, join Oregon Ducks for spring football

Lake Oswego’s Justius Lowe will be enrolling early at Oregon and playing spring football with the Ducks, joining 4-star CB Jahlil Florence.

[jwplayer 1ovY03vr]

Thursday brought the news four-star cornerback Jahlil Florence plans to enroll early at Oregon and join the Ducks for spring football. Now another incoming freshman is joining the fray.

Ducks Wire has confirmed four-star wide receiver Justius Lowe will also enroll early and join the team for spring ball in March.

[lawrence-related id=20350]

Lowe originally committed to the Utah Utes but decommitted and chose the Ducks. He played high school ball at Lake Oswego in the Portland area and thrived as both a defensive back and wide receiver. With the Ducks, he is expected to start as a receiver and add depth to a WR room that had a number of key players leave this offseason.

[lawrence-related id=20325]

With Troy Franklin, Dont’e Thornton and Kris Hutson stepping up as the new top trio in the WR room, the Ducks are looking to fill the depth chart this spring. UCLA transfer Chase Cota certainly helps that cause, but it will be interesting to see how Lowe performs at the college level and if he can make any sort of impact in his early days with the Ducks.

4-star CB Jahlil Florence to enroll early, join Oregon Ducks for spring ball

CB Jahlil Florence, one of Oregon’s best recruits in 2022, will be enrolling early and joining the Ducks for spring ball in March.

[jwplayer fUhZ1ebR]

We are just a couple of weeks away from the Oregon Ducks getting the 2022 football season going with the start of spring ball. While there are numerous storylines to follow and players to watch during that time, one thing that we are certainly paying attention to is the new class of Ducks coming to Eugene.

More specifically, which former recruits will be enrolling at Oregon early and joining the team for the spring season?

Ducks Wire has received confirmation that 4-star CB Jahlil Florence will be enrolling early and taking part in team activities this spring.

[lawrence-related id=20350]

Florence was one of the more impactful recruits of Dan Lanning’s young tenure with the Ducks since Oregon was able to land him over the USC Trojans. Florence was originally committed to Oregon but opened up his recruitment following the departure of Mario Cristobal. Lanning made a point that he was of the utmost priority for the Ducks, choosing to FaceTime him in the minutes after the national championship game at Georgia and recruit him to Eugene.

While the Ducks need some depth at the cornerback position, it’s hard to predict how much of an impact Florence will have on the field in his first collegiate season. We are still waiting to see whether Dontae Manning or Trikweze Bridges will be able to step up as the No. 1 CB on the defense, and the addition of Colorado’s Christian Gonzalez through the transfer portal certainly helped.

[lawrence-related id=20325]

Throughout spring ball, though, we will get a chance to see what Florence can do at the next level and get a feeling for how much of an impact he can have in 2022.

Report: 5-star RB Richard Young plans to visit Oregon Ducks ahead of commitment

The Ducks are reportedly pushing for 5-star RB Richard Young, who is hoping to visit Oregon in the coming months.

The Oregon Ducks got some nice recruiting news over the weekend, with it being reported that 5-star running back Richard Young is planning to add Eugene to his list of places to visit this coming year ahead of his commitment. The report comes from Recruits_CFP, but was retweeted by Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham, which gives it more credence.

Young is a 5-foot-11, 200-pound back who is rated as the No. 1 RB in the class of 2023, and the No. 18 overall player in the class, according to 247Sports. The Florida senior is reportedly high on the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Ohio State Buckeyes. The Ducks have been pushing hard for him recently, though, and Young reportedly plans to come to see Dan Lanning and Co. at some point this year.

After getting 4-star RB Jordan James to flip from Georgia to Oregon this past month, there seems to be some positive momentum for the Ducks when it comes to recruiting that position, so it’s not a shock to see this news keep rolling with Young. We will update when more is known about his visiting schedule.

Ducks offer transfer DT Micaiah Overton, brother of 5-star DL Lebbeus Overton

Micaiah and Lebbeus want to be playing football together next season. Knowing that, the Ducks extended an offer to the 5-star prospect’s older brother.

Sometimes, in order to get a date with the girl of your dreams, you have to impress her friends first.

It isn’t a perfect comparison, but that’s sort of the situation that the Oregon Ducks are in when it comes to 2022 5-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton, the No. 1 DL in the nation who recently reclassified from 2023 to this year.

[lawrence-related id=19864]

It came out last week that Lebbeus’ older brother, Micaiah Overton, recently entered the transfer portal and will be going wherever his brother commits in a package deal. The DT from Liberty is a former 3-star recruit from Bessemer Academy in Alabama.

Over the weekend, it came out that both Micaiah and Lebbeus will be coming to Eugene sometime in March to see the Ducks’ facilities and meet the coaching staff before they make a decision. While Oregon may not be the favorite in their recruitment, they certainly are in the running.

4-star WR Kyle Kasper shows respect for Ducks after recent visit to Oregon

4-star WR Kyle Kasper took a visit to Eugene to see the Ducks in January, and the trip obviously left a positive impression on the 2023 prospect.

The Oregon Ducks are making good headway when it comes to the 2023 recruiting class, and a top-rated player who was recently on campus in Eugene appears to have liked what he saw.

4-star wide receiver Kyle Kasper recently narrowed his recruiting list down to 10 schools and included the Ducks among them. Kasper, who stands at 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 18 WR in the 2023 recruiting class, and No. 121 player overall.

Kasper is heading into his senior season at Williams Field HS in Gilbert, AZ, and has included schools like Ohio State, Iowa, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Georgia, USC, Arizona State, UCLA, and Miami in his top 10.

Kasper was recently on a visit to Oregon to see Lanning and the Ducks’ new staff and is said to have had a great experience. If Oregon can get a commitment from him in the next few months, it will be huge to build their offensive class and add to what already looks like a promising program in the future.

5-star DL Lebbeus Overton set to visit Oregon Ducks with brother Micaiah

5-star DL Lebbeus Overton, one of the top remaining recruits in 2022, is set to visit Eugene in the coming weeks.

Just after the spectacle that is national signing day came and went, the 2022 recruiting cycle got a jolt of energy with the news that 5-star defensive lineman Lebbeus Overton was reclassifying from the 2023 class and looking to make his college decision in the coming months.

This news was especially exciting for fans of the Oregon Ducks, who saw their team be listed in Overton’s final list of potential destinations. It also came out this week that Overton is scheduling a visit to see the Ducks with his brother, Micaiah Overton, and Dan Lanning, sometime this spring before making his final decision. Lanning is one of the coaches who was in close contact with Overton during his time with the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Ducks recently missed out on 4-star ATH Arlis Boardingham, but still, have a chance to pick up some high-profile players like Overton and 5-star OL Josh Conerly. If they can pick up either player, it will be a huge win for Lanning and the Ducks.

Kadyn Proctor, the No. 1 OT in 2023, expresses interest in Oregon Ducks

Kaydn Proctor is the No. 1 OT in 2023, and No. 5 player overall, and he recently showed some love for the Ducks.

As we continue to look ahead to the 2023 recruiting class, it is becoming clear that the Oregon Ducks are making some headway when it comes to impressing the top recruits in the nation.

Most recently, 6-foot-7, 330-pound offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor narrowed his list down to seven schools and listed the Ducks among his top choices. The other schools that Proctor is looking at are Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Iowa.

[lawrence-related id=19794]

Proctor is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 OT in the 2023 class and No. 5 overall player in the class. So far, Proctor has 33 total offers and received an in-home visit from the Wolverines staff last month.

While the Ducks continue to try and fill out their 2022 class with the possible additions of No. 1 rated OT Josh Conerly, and 5-star DE Lebbeus Overton, it is a positive note to see a player with the stature of Proctor setting his eyes on the Ducks.

BREAKING: 4-star ATH Arlis Boardingham commits to Florida Gators over Oregon Ducks

4-star ATH Arlis Boardingham is headed to Florida, choosing the Gators over the Oregon Ducks.

[jwplayer o4ELRU7m]

The Oregon Ducks were unable to add to their 2022 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon, with 4-star athlete Arlis Boardingham announcing that he would be committing to the Florida Gators rather than coming up north to Eugene for his college career.

Boardingham was originally expected to make his decision on national signing day but said that the race between Oregon and Florida was so tight that he was going to wait until after to make his announcement.

[lawrence-related id=19734]

Boardingham is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound TE/WR/DE who projects to immediately have an impact on the roster. He is rated as the No. 30 athlete in the nation, and the No. 483 player overall.

While it would have been really nice to add a player like Boardingham to the roster, losing him to the Gators is not the worst thing in the world. Adding another player to the roster would have likely caused some roster attrition down the road, with the Ducks currently hovering near the limit of scholarships available. Oregon can expect some players to enter the transfer portal this spring — that’s just how this modern era of football goes — but they will have to watch the numbers closely over the coming months.

Recruiting for this cycle isn’t over just yet, either. There are still players like 5-star OT Josh Conerly or 5-star DE Lebbeus Overton who have yet to make their commitments, both of whom have listed the Ducks among their top schools. Going forward, we will be watching their recruitment closely.

Oregon Ducks ranked as having the best football facilities in the nation, per 247Sports

Last time it was recruits who ranked Oregon’s facilities No. 1. This time it’s 247Sports saying the Ducks are the team to beat when it comes to football amenities.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01f27mq9z7hjgk6vc6 player_id=none image=https://duckswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

The recruiting wins keep coming in for the Oregon Ducks.

Just a week after signing a 2022 recruiting class that ranked inside the top-25, Oregon was ranked as having the No. 1 athletic facilities in the nation according to 247Sports.

[lawrence-related id=16426]

Earlier in the year, 247Sports took a poll among high school seniors to find out who had the best facilities in the nation, and the recruits agreed that it was the Ducks in Eugene, choosing Oregon over places like Georgia, Clemson, and Notre Dame. Now the Ducks are getting that confirmed again by 247Sports, beating out Texas A&M, Alabama, Clemson, and Georgia.

While the Ducks’ 25th-ranked class may not look great compared to those of the other schools listed, when you consider what they had to work with — Dan Lanning coming in late as the head coach and a class that ranked as low as the 70s in mid-December — then the fact that they were able to get up to where they are now is a pretty big feat.

That class can improve in the coming days and weeks as well, with players like Arlis Boardinham, Josh Conerly, and Lebbeus Overton yet to make their decisions.

Regardless of who ends up signing with the Ducks this spring, it’s clear that Oregon is in a prime position to impress these recruits on their official visits with nothing more than their facilities. All of that other stuff — the coaches, the uniforms, the Nike of it all — is just icing on the cake.

Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook, the No. 4 player in 2023, set to visit Oregon Ducks this week

Oregon-native and 5-star SF Mookie Cook is set to see Dana Altman and the Ducks this coming week on an official visit.

[jwplayer eHt2PIrG]

One of the best basketball players from the state of Oregon will be in Eugene this coming week, making an official visit to Dana Altman and the Ducks as they take on some conference rivals.

5-star small forward Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook announced on Tuesday that he will be taking an official visit to Eugene, and will stay in town for the Ducks’ games vs. Stanford and California on Thursday and Saturday.

[lawrence-related id=19724]

Cook, who is from Jefferson, OR, plays for Compass Prep in Chandler, AZ. He stands at 6-foot-7, 200 pounds, and ranks as the No. 4 player in the 2023 recruiting class.

Cook has a total of 22 offers thus far, with many coming from the blue-blood teams that you would expect: Kentucky, Kansas, Gonzaga, Arizona, UCLA, and Duke. So far, he has only taken one official visit to Kentucky and will be adding to that list this coming weekend.

While Dana Altman will obviously be focused on what is most important — winning these two games at home against beatable teams — he will also have a chance to ‘wow’ one of the best players in the nation. This past recruiting class saw the additions of Kel’el Ware and Dior Johnson, two of the top prospects in the country, and if Altman can work his magic once again this week, the 2023 class could be off to a hot start as well.
