One of the best basketball players from the state of Oregon will be in Eugene this coming week, making an official visit to Dana Altman and the Ducks as they take on some conference rivals.

5-star small forward Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook announced on Tuesday that he will be taking an official visit to Eugene, and will stay in town for the Ducks’ games vs. Stanford and California on Thursday and Saturday.

Cook, who is from Jefferson, OR, plays for Compass Prep in Chandler, AZ. He stands at 6-foot-7, 200 pounds, and ranks as the No. 4 player in the 2023 recruiting class.

Cook has a total of 22 offers thus far, with many coming from the blue-blood teams that you would expect: Kentucky, Kansas, Gonzaga, Arizona, UCLA, and Duke. So far, he has only taken one official visit to Kentucky and will be adding to that list this coming weekend.

While Dana Altman will obviously be focused on what is most important — winning these two games at home against beatable teams — he will also have a chance to ‘wow’ one of the best players in the nation. This past recruiting class saw the additions of Kel’el Ware and Dior Johnson, two of the top prospects in the country, and if Altman can work his magic once again this week, the 2023 class could be off to a hot start as well.
