Ohio State beats Wisconsin, wins Big Ten Championship and heads to College Football Playoff

Ohio State had to work for it, but it found a way to come back against Wisconsin and outlast the Badgers to win the Big Ten Championship.

It wasn’t as easy as the games leading up to this point, but Ohio State found a way to punch through adversity and claw its way back into the game in the second half and outlast a motivated Wisconsin team.

With the win, Ohio State takes home its third-straight Big Ten Championship, and punches its way into the College Football Playoff. What seed it receives will be debated and then announced by the CFP Committee Sunday.

For awhile, it looked like Wisconsin was going to be able to pull off a shocker in Indy. It came out with a lot of emotion and fire behind a solid game plan that had the Ohio State offense baffled, and the defense looking for answers.

The Badgers raced out to a 14-0 lead, and despite the Buckeyes getting a score before the half to cut it to 14-7, Wisconsin made some big plays to find a way to score another touchdown with under a minute to go before the break to lead 21-7.

And all Ohio State fans had white knuckles and churning stomachs.

The second half was a different story however. Ohio State played with more purpose, the coaching staff made some adjustments, and OSU scored 24 unanswered points to go up 34-21. From there, it was all a matter of closing it out.

And close it out the Buckeyes did. Wisconsin needed a couple of touchdowns in under four minutes and just didn’t have enough in the tank to get it done. Neither team put another score on the board.

Now we wait to see where the scarlet and gray will go for a semifinal matchup in the College Football Playoff.

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin: 3 reasons the Badgers could give the Buckeyes problems in the Big Ten Championship Game

Here’s three reasons why Wisconsin could give Ohio State some issues in the Big Ten Championship Game Saturday night.

Ohio State is all set to travel to Indianapolis to take part in the Big Ten Championship Game for the third-straight year. It was successful in the last two and looking to become the first league team to take home a trophy three years in a row.

Standing in its way is Wisconsin, also a team familiar with Indianapolis. The Badgers have more appearances in the Big Ten Championship Game than any other team in the league, but have just two titles, and haven’t won any since 2012.

These two already met once in the regular season, with the Buckeyes winning going away in Columbus in late October. Can the Badgers find a way to make this one more competitive and even (gasp) win the thing?

Here’s three reasons Wisconsin could give Ohio State some problems Saturday night.

Big Ten Championship game in Indianapolis will be overwhelmingly Buckeye fans

According to data from Vivid Seats, after market ticket sales for the Big Ten Championship Game are overwhelming Ohio State fans.

We all know Buckeye fans travel well to support their team. Chants of O-H-I-O broke out most recently in Ann Arbor as the football team put another beatdown on the Wolverines and a few days later in Chapel Hill when the basketball team rolled to a 25 point victory over the Tar Heels. Buckeye Nation truly is everywhere.

Joey Kaufman, of the Columbus Dispatch, tells us it looks like it’s going to be more of the same at the Big Ten Championship game this Saturday in Indianapolis as Vivid Seats is projecting a 93% advantage for Ohio State fans to just 7% Badger fans.

Ohio State fans truly are everywhere and travel like none other in the country.

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Championship Game Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

It’s about time to go for this Big Ten Championship thing. Our staff members take turns predicting the winner of Ohio State and Wisconsin.

It’s time for the sequel, and we can only hope in this case the second one is better than the first — well, at least if you’re Wisconsin. In Columbus in late October, there was some “Midwest” weather, then things got away from the Badgers in the second half.

Weather won’t be a problem in Lucas Oil Stadium unless there’s a roof leak, but there’s still the little issue of dealing with this Ohio State team that has cast aside every challenge faced before it with bad intentions.

We’ve already previewed the game and made a bold prediction, asked for a Badgers’ writer perspective on things, and now we’re asking our staff to make their call on the game individually.

Does anyone give Wisconsin a chance? Let’s find out …

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Championship Game roundtable: 4 questions with the enemy

We worked with our sister site Badgers Wire on a roundtable Q&A session on the Big Ten Championship Game between Ohio State and Wisconsin.

It’s an even bigger one that what we saw in round one when Ohio State and Wisconsin matched up. That’s because this one is for a title and some hardware that’ll go in one of the two team’s trophy case.

We worked with one or our sister sites Badgers Wire on a Q&A on the game. We’re always interested in the perspective of the opposing team, and Matt Zemek gives us that as he did the first time around when the Badgers and Buckeyes tussled in Columbus.

If you’re a Wisconsin Badgers fan, we encourage you to give Badgers Wire a follow, bookmark the website. There’s a ton of good stuff going on over there, and they are good people.

But we digress. We lobbed four questions over Zemek, and here’s how it went.

And off we go.

The Ohio State creative team shared the hype video for the Big Ten Championship Game against Wisconsin, and it’s a good one as always. Everything up until this point has exceeded anyone’s expectations, but it doesn’t mean anything if the Buckeyes can’t seal the deal in Indianapolis and walk away with a conference title to move on to bigger and better things.

If you haven’t had a chance to view this trailer, take a moment and click on the below video shared by the official Twitter feed of Ohio State Football. Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Big Ten Championship Game preview: 5 reasons the Buckeyes win

Ohio State handled Wisconsin pretty handily the first time around, now it has to beat the Badgers one more time in the Big Ten Championship.

The first one was so nice, they’re playing it twice.

Ohio State outlasted and outmanned the Wisconsin Badgers the first time around 38-7, and now it’s tasked with beating them again in the Big Ten Championship Game Saturday. They say it’s hard to beat a good team twice in one season, but the reality is, we’ve not really seen that in the Big Ten, or with the Buckeyes for that matter.

Either way, Wisconsin does have one of the best running backs in the country, a physical brand, and the culture to pick itself off the proverbial mat to try and make this one a game this time. Oh, and there’s a championship and trophy on the line, so getting up to play this one shouldn’t be an issue.

Here’s five reasons the Buckeyes win Saturday in Indianapolis

Boom! There’s nothing quite like owning your arch rival. The Buckeyes took care of business in impressive fashion with a dominating win over the Wolverines in Ann Arbor this past Saturday.

The regular season is done and now it’s time to focus on bigger prizes, namely a Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff birth.

The Buckeyes will  face the Badgers of Wisconsin in a rematch of a crossover game from earlier in the season in which Ohio State cruised to a 38-7 victory in less than ideal weather conditions.

Weather won’t be a factor under the cover of Lucas Oil Stadium as Ohio State looks for its third straight Big Ten Championship.

On to Indy!

Next … The game plan

Ohio State favored by -16.5 over Wisconsin in early Big Ten Championship rematch

The early line on the Big Ten Championship Game is out, and according to BetMGM, Ohio State is a -16.5 favorite over the Wisconsin Badgers.

It’s not quite February 2, but we’re going to get an early dose of Big Ten football Groundhog Day this coming Saturday. That’s because Ohio State and Wisconsin are going to meet for the second time this season in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Ohio State disposed of the Badgers rather easily the first time around back on October 26. The Buckeyes rolled up 431 yards of total offense — 264 on the ground — against what was the nation’s top ranked defense up until that point. Meanwhile, the defense throttled one of the countries’ top rushing offenses. It all amounted to a 38-7 whitewashing in the ‘Shoe.

So you might wonder what kind of line would be set for a rematch in that case. If you weren’t, we certainly were, and we have our answer. According to the online betting website BetMGM, The Buckeyes have been installed as an early -16.5 favorite to win Ohio State vs. Wisconsin 2.0.

It’s always interesting to see where odds go for rematches in the same season like this, and with the lopsided score the first time around, you may be wondering why the margin is not greater. Ahem, we were. I mean you had a game as the best indicator already.

You can probably point to the neutral field, and the challenges of facing a team the second time as rationale on this one. However, maybe this is the time for you to jump head first into this one if you are the betting type?
