Ohio State vs Nebraska Game Preview

Why Nebraska Will Win

The Huskers haven’t done a whole lot of things right this season, but they forced Ohio State into overtime in the first meeting – an 87-79 Buckeye win.

That was back in early January and there hasn’t been a whole lot of fun since then. However, it’s coming off its best offensive performance of the Big Ten season with a 93-70 wipeout of Penn State.

The team was red hot from three, hit 58% overall from the field, and it finally got its second Big Ten win.

The D isn’t great, but it comes up with steals. Generate a slew of them, be good from three, and own the free throw line. Nebraska can do that, but …

Why Ohio State Will Win

Nebraska just doesn’t do much on the boards, and the amazing 13-of-20 day from three against Penn State was a total fluke.

The Huskers are dead last in the Big Ten in three point shooting percentage, the defense gives up close to 80 points per game, and there aren’t enough rebounds to make up for the first two issues.

Ohio State should be well motivated coming off a rough 75-60 loss to Maryland. It didn’t shoot well and the defense wasn’t there, but it should be able to outrebound the Huskers – it was +10 in the first meeting – and …

What’s Going To Happen

Beyond Nebraska being bad at college basketball this year, Ohio State shouldn’t have any problems now that it’s back home.

Iowa was able to roll to a stunning blowout win in Value City a few weeks ago, but the Buckeyes are 12-1 at home and 5-6 on the road.

Yeah, Nebraska blew out Penn State, but it got rocked in its other nine games away from home.

North Carolina 58, Wake Forest 55 Reaction

Nothing stops.

In the strange way the ACC season works this year, this technically wasn’t a conference game, so – as this is written before the afternoon games – Wake Forest is still two games up on NC State and two up on Clemson with three to play against NC State, at Clemson, at Boston College.

Don’t worry about the College Football Playoff talk for now. If Wake Forest wins those final three games – all solid now that Boston College has QB Phil Jurkovec back – win out, and put the pressure on the CFP committee as a 12-1 Power Five champion.

There are all sorts of strange tie-breaker things that could happen – I still think Clemson ends up winning yet another ACC Championship, somehow – but the Demon Deacons can realistically come close to locking this up by beating NC State next week.

However, for as much fun as the Demon Deacon offense is, this was the first true test for the team – Virginia was probably the best win so far – and the defense didn’t pass with a brutal fourth quarter and horrible game against the run.

Sam Hartman threw for close to 400 yards with five scores, he ran for 78 yards and two touchdowns, the receiving corps was amazing …

And the Demon Deacon run defense couldn’t do anything to help the cause.

Ty Chandler ran for 213 yards and four scores, Sam Howell threw for over 200 yards and a score and ran for over 100 with two touchdowns, and a big fourth quarter burst got the job done for a Tar Heel team that desperately needed this win.

With at Pitt, Wofford, and at NC State to go, a loss for a 4-4 team would’ve put all bowl hopes in jeopardy. Again, this game didn’t count in the ACC standings, but

If Pitt loses to Virginia or at Syracuse, and Virginia drops the game to Virginia Tech – or beats Pitt and the Panthers lose at Syracuse – North Carolin a is in the the ACC Championship by winning out.

It’s probably not going to happen – too many things have to come through – but Wake Forest vs. North Carolina doing this again in the ACC Championship would be a mighty fine end to the conference season.

Ohio State vs Nebraska Game Preview

Why Ohio State Will Win

What’s Nebraska’s problem? It continues to be the main issue in the Scott Frost era.

Turnovers aren’t always an issue, but the four against Purdue were a killer in a five-point loss. The two against both Michigan and Michigan State were huge – losing both games by three.

There aren’t enough takeaways, the pass rush isn’t strong enough, the special teams overall are just okay – it just hasn’t been a tight enough team overall in close games.

On the flip side, Ohio State is hardly perfect, but it makes up for it by massive amounts of yards and points.

The passing game might take a while to warm up, but the nation’s No. 2 offense is good for 300 yards through the air every time out. Penn State did a decent job of holding up against the run, and it still gave up 466 yards of total offense last week.

However …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 10

Why Nebraska Will Win

It’s possible to move the ball on Ohio State.

It does a whole lot of bending but not a ton or breaking, allowing 24 points or fewer in each of the last six game, but it also helped to go against Rutgers, Indiana, Maryland, and Akron.

QB Sean Clifford might have been healthy and able to go last week, but that Penn State offense did a whole lot of nothing against Iowa and Illinois before cranking up over 360 passing yards and close to 400 yards of total O on the Buckeyes.

The Huskers will move the chains in this.

In a whole lot of ways, the pressure is off Nebraska. It’s supposed to get blasted in this to lock in yet another losing season – it can let it rip.

Adrian Martinez is coming off a rough day throwing the ball, but Purdue’s defense is playing better than Ohio State’s. At home, he has to be make this game his.

And on the other side …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 9

What’s Going To Happen

Nebraska’s defense has been okay. It hasn’t been amazing, but it’s been decent enough to stay in every game.

The biggest loss this year for the Huskers? The opener to Illinois by eight.

They hung around with Oklahoma, pushed Michigan to the brink, gave Michigan State a rough run, and it’s about to rise up and come up with something special against Ohio State …

For 45ish minutes.

Martinez will be strong, the team will be good, and everything will be right there for the taking, and then CJ Stroud will connect on two big passes in the fourth quarter to finally give the Buckeyes a little breathing room.

Why Ohio State Will Win

Nebraska is bad at college basketball.

It looked like it might be able to do something interesting way back in early January after beating Iowa. 12 losses later – including an 80-68 loss to the Buckeyes – and it’s just hoping for a decent performance.

What’s the problem? The Husker defense can’t stop anyone.

Nebraska has the worst defense in the Big Ten, but the even bigger problem overall is its lack of rebounding to take some of the pressure off. It’s bad on the defensive glass, and worse on the offensive side.

Ohio State will generate plenty of second chance points.

Why Nebraska Will Win

What can the Huskers do right? They jack up more threes than anyone in the Big Ten, and while they don’t make a lot of them, they do enough to at least worry about.

Granted, they shoot a lot of threes to try making up for the awful defense, but if Ohio State isn’t paying attention, this could get interesting.

They also don’t screw up a whole lot. They might not do much on one side of the ball, and they might not shoot well, but they don’t turn the ball over.

What’s Going To Happen

Ohio State got out to a hot start in the 80-68 win over Nebraska several weeks ago. It’ll be a tighter battle in Lincoln, but after a sluggish start, the Buckeyes are going to be way too sharp from three in the second half.
