Well, that was fun, if not a little unexpected for Ohio State against Michigan State. I think a lot of people felt pretty good about the matchup of OSU’s passing game vs. the struggling secondary of the Spartans. That certainly played out to be true, but there’s more than that that we can take away from this contest.

In fact, after every Buckeye game, we try to pull back the layers of the scarlet and gray onion as a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to what we saw on the field of play. We’re doing the same here because there is a lot to digest after this one, most of it very, very good.

Here are five things we think we learned after Ohio State’s 56-7 victory over the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday

It’s almost time. We’ve dissected and analyzed the matchup between Ohio State and Michigan State a thousand different ways at this point. Tomorrow, they’ll put the football down and play it out on a television or streaming device near you and add some clarity to the Big Ten East division and College Football Playoff picture.

The oddsmakers have the Buckeyes as an almost three-touchdown favorite, and that seems pretty outlandish to be honest. With two top-ten teams doing battle, that’s really unheard of.

However, there are reasons to believe that the Spartans could make this a game. If you’ve been watching football this year, you’ve no doubt seen what Mel Tucker has done with this bunch, and if the Buckeyes believe they’ll just roll their helmets out there and win going away, they’ll be in trouble.

With that in mind, and based on what we’ve seen so far this season, here are three reasons why Michigan State could cause some issues for Ohio State Saturday afternoon in the ‘Shoe.

Can we pump up this Ohio State game against Michigan State enough? I mean yeah, OSU has been in plenty of huge games over the last few years, but having one of this magnitude late in the year in the ‘Shoe doesn’t come around very often. It’s a top ten matchup with ESPN’s College GameDay in the house for all the fun, and one of the two teams is coming out the other end with huge things still to play for.

As with any game, we can discuss and analyze it from all sorts of angles, but it’ll come down to a few key things in the game for the Buckeyes to walk out of Ohio Stadium with all of its lofty goals still on the table.

This one could take more twists and turns than a murder mystery, or OSU could execute and do the things it needs to do in order to make this one a less stressful event and tamp down anxiety in the great state of Ohio.

We are now just one day away from the titanic struggle in the Big Ten between two top ten ranked teams. No. 4 Ohio State hosts No. 7 Michigan State (CFP Rankings) at Noon in the ‘Shoe and there are some sizeable things at stake. The winner moves closer to a Big Ten East title and potential entry into the College Football Playoff.

Living in the moment of all things that is Ohio State football, Buckeye fans are fully aware of what’s at stake, and what the strengths and pitfalls of this team are. However, we like to get a view of what this game, and what the OSU program means for the opposition, especially with a contest of this magnitude.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are coming off a fantastic and impressive victory over the Purdue Boilermakers, 59-31. And that score isn’t even close to illustrating how dominant the Buckeyes looked on Saturday.

Ohio State needs to keep winning and it will safely be in the College Football Playoff.
