What Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker said about Ohio State ahead of the game Saturday

Everything Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker said about Ohio State leading into the game on Saturday. #GoBucks

Ohio State and Michigan State are continuing to prepare for the big, top-ten matchup in the ‘Shoe on Saturday.

As all of the Big Ten coaches do, they meet with their local media to talk about the last game and look ahead to the upcoming one. That of course means that Spartan head coach Mel Tucker stepped to the podium to discuss what he sees from Ohio State.

We always like to bring you the comments of the opposing coach and it’s no different here. It’s clear that Tucker has a lot of respect and understands the challenge that is ahead of the Spartans. That was clear as he fielded questions and talked about the film he’s been able to digest so far.

In case you missed any of his comments, you can listen to his press conference and all that he said about the Buckeyes by watching the below YouTube video shared by Spartan Mag.

Watch and listen to Tucker discuss how talented Ohio State is, what the game between the two helped in preparation for this year, the explosive ability OSU has, and more.

Ohio State and Michigan State will kick off at Noon on Saturday, with ABC televising the contest. ESPN’s College GameDay is in town as well, so the atmosphere should be a good one.

Five things to know about the Michigan State Spartans

Five things to know about the Michigan State Spartans heading into the top ten matchup Saturday. #GoBucks

There is a fairly large American college football contest taking place this weekend and it involves your Ohio State Buckeyes. The Michigan State Spartans are coming to town and both teams have a ranking inside the top ten no matter what poll you want to use. Not only that, but the Spartans — like the Buckeyes — control their own destiny. If they can win out, Mel Tucker’s crew will be the Big East Division representative in Indy and have a shot to also make it into the College Football Playoff.

So yeah, the game Saturday in the ‘Shoe is a big one.

However, this Michigan State team has undergone a drastic facelift in just one season. Tucker has tinkered and toyed with personnel by bringing a lot of guys in that weren’t on the roster from the previous season. So, you may not necessarily recognize what you see on the field Saturday other than what you’ve seen on a television or streaming device near you so far in 2021.

Because of that, we decided to give you some nuggets about the team Ohio State will face on Saturday to prep you for all the fun.

Here are five things to know about the 2021 version of the Michigan State football squad.

Ohio State vs. Michigan State football preview and prediction

Ohio State remains at home Saturday to welcome Michigan State for a top ten matchup with Big Ten and CFP implications. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team is heading into the home stretch and the next two weeks will determine where the Buckeyes will play in the postseason.

The Bucks got off to a good start with a dominating performance Saturday against Purdue. Yes, the defense still doesn’t seem to have it all together, but it’s hard to get a true picture with the pass-happy offense the Boilermakers bring to the table.

Ohio State will now face Michigan State in what is effectively a playoff elimination game. Can the Buckeye defense stop Kenneth Walker, who many believe is the Heisman frontrunner? Hang on tight fans … the next few weeks promise to be a wild ride.

ESPN’s College GameDay headed to Columbus for Ohio State vs. Michigan State

Guess who’s coming to town for the top ten matchup this weekend between Ohio State and Michigan State? Does this still excite you, or meh? #GoBucks

This may not have quite the buzz as it used to, but it still means there’s a big game on tap when ESPN’s College GameDay comes to town and that’s exactly what’s in store this weekend for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes and Spartans have both only lost one game and are sure to both be in the top ten, for a cataclysmic matchup that will have huge implications for the Big Ten and College Football Playoff.

ESPN has been a little schizophrenic lately on what games it attends, but the announcement was made late on Saturday that Kirk Herbstreit and company will be on the banks of the Olentangy this weekend.

So get your signs out Ohio State fans, head on down to the ‘Shoe, and add to the big game atmosphere that we’re all waiting for on Saturday. The game will be televised right after the GameDay broadcast at Noon EST.

Let’s go.

Ohio State leads Michigan State at halftime despite sloppy play

Ohio State hasn’t played its best half of basketball, but it still leads Michigan State by five points at the break in East Lansing.

They say a sign of a good team is one that still is able to get things done despite not playing its best. For Ohio State, that has been the case so far in East Lansing against Michigan State. Despite being outrebounded, not getting back on defense on several occasions, and turning the ball over eight times, the Buckeyes still lead the Spartans 38-33 at halftime.

The good news if your an Ohio State fan, is that the defense has been playing well once the half-court has come into play. The Buckeyes have forced nine turnovers of their own and have made life really difficult on the Spartans’ offense outside of fast-break runouts.

Duane Washington leads OSU at halftime with 11 points on 4-of-8 field goals even with a desperation 3-pointer with the shot clock winding down taken off the board. The banked-in bucket was called good initially, then reversed despite in-game broadcast reviews showing the ball leaving Washington’s hands just before time expired.

Other OSU players with close to double figures include Zek Key and Justice Sueing with eight points each. E.J. Liddell has had a rough first half, going just 1-of-6 from the floor with five points. He’ll need to step up in the last twenty minutes.

For Michigan State, there hasn’t been much offense outside of their fast break and secondary break offense, with Gabe Brown and Aaron Henry leading the Spartans with nine points each.

In the second half, if Ohio State can put the lid on transition baskets and hold Michigan State down on the boards, you feel pretty good about bringing this one home as a win. That’s a big if though.

Twenty more minutes to go.

Ohio State basketball vs. Michigan State: How to watch and listen to the game Thursday

Ohio State travels to East Lansing to take on the Spartans and look to rebound from a loss to Michigan.

In a conference as tough as the Big Ten, teams have to have a short memory. Ohio State is coming off a back and forth affair which saw it fall to No. 3 Michigan this past Sunday by five points.

It might be easy to think that the road gets a little bit easier facing Michigan State which finds itself uncharacteristically in the bottom half of the Big Ten standings. However, the Spartans have put together an impressive two-game stretch which includes an upset over No. 4 ranked Illinois earlier this week.

Ohio State dominated MSU with a 17 point victory over the Spartans in late January at Value City Arena. It’s safe to say the Spartans will have a little more confidence coming into this one after the upset win over the Illini.

The Buckeyes need to be ready for a slugfest as Michigan State is fighting for its NCAA tournament life.

We know you’re ready for some more Buckeye hoops action, and we have everything you need to know to find the game Thursday.

Ohio State slight favorite over Michigan State according to BetMGM

BetMGM has come out with its game-day odds for Ohio State basketball’s trip to East Lansing to take on a resurgent Michigan State team.

We’ve got another important matchup on tap for the Ohio State basketball team. The Buckeyes hit the road to take on Michigan State, who seems to be playing much better basketball as of late. The Spartans had issues coming back from a COVID-19 shutdown, but have gotten their legs back and are playing the way you’d expect a Tom Izzo team to play as it approaches March.

OSU is coming off its first loss in seven games against Michigan but has shown that it’s still one whale of a team. These two last matched up on January 31, with the Buckeyes pulling away for a 79-62 victory.

If you are into these sort of things, BetMGM has released its odds for the game in East Lansing for the day of the tip and it has Ohio State as a slight 4.5 favorite over resurgent Michigan State. Perhaps a little closer than you’d expect, though that probably has to do with how Sparty is playing as of late.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook.

Game time is set for 9 p.m EST, so get everything in order and watch another game of this fantastic season OSU is having on the basketball court.

LOOK. Ohio State hoops to bust out some slick uniforms again tomorrow

The Ohio State basketball team is ready to break out uniforms we’ve seen just one other time when they take on Michigan State on the road.

Ohio State has a pretty big game on the road against Michigan State Thursday night and are commemorating the occasion with some uniforms that fit the part.

So far, we’ve only seen the away all-black/anthracite jerseys against Wisconsin on the road, but now, according to the Ohio State Hoops Twitter account, we’re going to see those beauties again against the Spartans. It’ll be just the second time these threads have been worn, and last time the team raved about how they felt in wearing them out on the court, even giving the jerseys some credit for the win.

It’s a big game for both teams. Michigan State needs a win to boost its postseason resume, and the Buckeyes need a win to keep its No. 1 seed hopes alive for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

They say sometimes you have to look good to play good, and it looks like the Ohio State basketball team has that taken care for the trip to East Lansing.

Kyle Young will not be available for Michigan State game Thursday

Ohio State forward Kyle Young will miss Thursday’s game against Michigan State because of a concussion he suffered against Michigan.

Ohio State forward Kyle Young will not be available when the team travels to Michigan State on Thursday because of a concussion he suffered against Michigan on Thursday according to comments from head coach Chris Holtmann. Holtmann met with the media Wednesday to preview the matchup against a resurgent Spartan team that’s playing for its postseason life right now and broke the news.

The OSU head coach made no bones about how devastating the loss is against a Michigan State team that is physical and crashes the boards hard. For him, the loss of Young hurts at any point because of what he brings to the team.

“It’s significant. There’s no minimizing it’s a significant hit to our depth and our team,” Holtmann said while on a Zoom call. “It happened late in the game. I’m disappointed for him just because you’d like for him to be able to be in every game here late in his career, and certainly one that’s against as quality of team that we’re playing. I know he’s disappointed, but I think he’s doing well. He’s progressing very well. He’s progressing very well in the updates that I’ve gotten.”

With no Young, the lion’s share of the work in the paint will now fall on the shoulders of E.J. Liddell and Zed Key. Musa Jallow could be available as well, though he too is still dealing with an ankle sprain. Holtmann also said that Seth Towns will likely be called upon to play more minutes. But still, it’s a huge hole to fill.

“We don’t have a guy on our roster that plays quite like Kyle and kind of brings his multi-dimension energy and rebounding and physicality. Obviously, it’s a concern. That’s what we’ve looked at the last couple days. Obviously, Seth will be important. Zed, as you mentioned. And then depending if Musa is available, he’ll be important as well.”

If Ohio State is to keep its standing as a No. 1 seed and still stay in the driver’s seat for a first-round bye in the Big Ten Tournament, a win against Michigan State is huge. Unfortunately, it’s looking like it’ll be a bigger uphill battle than originally thought.

Ohio State is on a roll on the hardwood. So much so that it just cracked the top ten in both the AP and Ferris Mowers Coaches Polls. The last win came against a Michigan State team that is struggling to find itself after a two-week pause because of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Still, a win over a Spartan program is nothing to sneeze at, and Ohio State basketball wants you to be able to re-live the excitement of another victory in the Schott. The creative team put together a short cinematic rewind of the win, and in case you missed it, we’ve got it here for you thanks to the wonderment of the internet app called Twitter.
