Big Ten revises Ohio State football’s 2022 schedule

The Big Ten announced changes to Ohio State and all of its conference opponents for the 2022 season on Wednesday. #GoBucks

Similar to the revisions that took place prior to last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Big Ten has revised football schedules for Ohio State and all of its conference brethren for the upcoming 2022 season.

The revisions are a result of the changes that had to be made during the 2020 pandemic pause and restart. Ohio State will still play the same opponents at the same venues, but the dates of some of the games have moved around. Only the Big Ten games at Northwestern (Nov. 5), Maryland (Nov. 19), and vs. Michigan (Nov. 26) remain unchanged. The nonconference games also remain unchanged.

Here is a complete look at the 2022 schedule as released and updated on Wednesday morning. Hopefully, this will all remain as is, and the pandemic starts to be a nuisance rather than a significant disrupter to life and all that goes with it.

An early look at Ohio State football’s 2022 schedule

Time to dive into what the 2022 football season looks like for Ohio State. #GoBucks

All the rose petals have fallen on the 2021-202 Ohio State football schedule, and it did so by way of a 48-45 winning, finishing kick (literally), out in the “Granddaddy of Them All,” the 108th edition of the Rose Bowl It was an all-time 48-45 classic thriller that will be sitting on DVRs for awhile.

OSU finished the season 11-2 but fell a wee-bit short of its goal of beating Michigan, winning the Big Ten, and making another appearance in the College Football Playoff. There’s still a tie for the Big Ten East division hanging around the Buckeyes’ kneck, but that’s a mere consolation prize for what was put out there to begin the season.

Now, we turn the page to next season, because that’s what we do when following one of the best college football programs of all time. We’ll take a look at the 2022 schedule and provide an early primer for what’s at stake as we forecast each looking way out.

2021 Ohio State football schedule: Another run to a Big Ten title?

A look at the complete Ohio State football schedule for 2021.

Ohio State will kick off its 2021 schedule with what should be a more normal slate than what we saw last season at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. You remember that well. Everything then got turned on its side and abbreviated.

Gone are the conference-only schedules in the Big Ten, and back is a more traditional one that the conference updated in February. All told, there are twelve games in the regular season, a potential Big Ten Championship Game, and perhaps more.

Ohio State football future schedules and opponents

What does the Ohio State football schedule look like as we go out the next few years? Here is a look at some opponents to look forward to.

The Ohio State football program has always done a great job of scheduling some huge intersectional matchups to go along with in-state opponents and programs that pique interest. There are of course games that are ho-hum just to fill out a schedule, but there’s almost always a big nonconference game to look forward to in addition to the Big Ten schedule.

That won’t change over the next few years either. The Buckeye program already has some pretty big games against some of the blue bloods of the sport scheduled far in advance, and while not everything is known after just a couple of years out, the schedules are beginning to take shape.

Just as recently, OSU athletic director Gene Smith confirmed a future home-and-home with Oregon way out in the years of 2032 and 2033.

We’ve put together what we know at this point with future schedules for you to keep track of when and where Ohio State is playing, and what games to look forward to in the future. As the schedules are updated, we’ll continue to add to it, so come back and stay informed.

Very early Ohio State football 2021 game-by-game predictions

We’re 6 months away from the 2021 college football season, but we’re looking ahead, predicting each game on the Ohio State football schedule

Yeah, we know it’s only early March, but we’re always anticipating the next football season at Ohio State. There’s a football factory sitting on the banks of the Olentangy, and there’s always something to discuss and dissect all year long at a place like OSU. Hopefully, this fall will more closely resemble a regular season, at least in terms of the games played than the abbreviated conference only one we saw in 2020 thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We just recently got a revised release of the 2021 schedule from the folks in the Big Ten, which basically moved some of the conference games around a bit for Ohio State, but that’s about it. Now that we know what the opponents and dates are, we thought … hey, why not break it down and provide some very early predictions before we get into spring.

I’m sure we’ll do this exercise a couple of more times before the season kicks off on September 2, but for now, here’s our extremely early, knee-jerk reaction and prediction for each game on the 2021 schedule.

Dec. 4 Big Ten Championship (in Indianapolis)

Games vs. The West: at Minnesota, at Nebraska, Purdue

Missed Teams From The West: Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Wisconsin

Ohio State Buckeyes Football Schedule Analysis: If you’re going to miss four teams from the Big Ten West, you’re a little ticked that you’re not getting Illinois, but if you’re missing Wisconsin, Iowa and Northwestern, there’s no beef whatsoever.

The home game against Oregon will be what everyone focuses on, but it doesn’t really matter – the Buckeyes should be able to roll through the rest of the slate. The road dates at Minnesota, Nebraska and Indiana will hardly be layups, but if Ohio State is national championship good, those can’t be a problem. Put it this way – Alabama wins all three of those games in ugly fashion.

The Michigan game is in Ann Arbor, but that’s hardly matters to the Buckeyes.

Ohio State Buckeyes Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: Ohio State rips through the schedule without breathing too hard. It beats Oregon, destroys Indiana after getting a week off to rest, and is happy to get Penn State at home.

There’s a bit of a brain-cramp battle at some point – like at Nebraska or maybe on the wrong day at home against Penn State – but the 12-0 team rolls into yet another Big Ten Championship.

Ohio State Buckeyes Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: The Buckeyes drop the date with the Ducks to put the pressure on the rest of the way, and they misfire on one other game. They lose to Penn State, and worst of all, they finally get caught by Michigan to not only make it another year without a national championship, but it’ll be a year without a Big Ten title.

Ohio State football updated and revised 2021 schedule

The Big Ten has announced updated schedules for football in 2021. Here is how it all affects when and where Ohio State will play.

The Big Ten has revised its football schedules for the 2021 season, and that obviously has a huge impact on Ohio State. By and large, the opponents and locations did not change, but things have been shuffled around a wee-bit with the dates of when those same teams are playing the Buckeyes. This is all on the tails of what happened last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

So, because we try to be good little stewards of this schedule update for you, we have the new timeline of events, times, and location for your reading, planning, and logistical consideration.

Here is the updated Ohio State football 2021 schedule with the old opposition in parentheses if applicable. Set your wedding dates and bar mitzvahs now and hope for a more normalized year this fall.

Ohio State football future schedules and opponents

Interested in who Ohio State football has on its future schedules? Here’s a look at future opponents and dates a few years down the line.

Ohio State football’s 2020 campaign is over, but we’re always looking ahead because that’s what we do on the banks of the Olentangy. When one season ends, the next begins because there are things that always need to be plugged in place for the next potential run at another Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff.

Many outside the program that don’t do much research like to criticize the Buckeyes’ schedule, but OSU always tried to play at least one major intersectional matchup with a historically good — if not great — program. Such is the case for future opponents as well.

Don’t believe us? We decided to take a look at the future opponents that are known to date and the games on the docket are pretty impressive. Here’s a look at the teams you can look forward to Ohio State playing in the upcoming years.

An early look at Ohio State football’s 2021 schedule

A season we won’t soon forget for many reasons is over for the Ohio State football team. Time for an early look ahead to the 2021 schedule.

I know, I know, you’re still licking your wounds and watching old Ohio State football games of some of the glory moments to wash the bad taste out of your mouth from the beatdown by Alabama. And, now that the season is over, it’s time to turn our attention to next year.

If you are like us — especially after a crushing defeat — it helps to gaze ahead a little and try to figure out if there’s another run towards a couple of trophies in store for 2021.

So, we decided to look ahead at Ohio State’s schedule for next year with the understanding that there are going to be a lot of unknowns with this team. It’ll have to retool on several fronts, but it’s OSU, so there will be plenty of options to choose from.

But first things first, here’s a look a high-level look at the Ohio State football schedule for 2021 and a backstory for each game.

BREAKING: Michigan-Ohio State canceled, will Big Ten rules change?

With “the game” called off, what comes next?

[jwplayer QVGfvgek-er0jUifI]

After a week of speculation, the news that many had feared became official today: The Ohio State-Michigan game will be canceled. The news was originally reported by TheWolverine.com’s Chris Balas and confirmed by Michigan this morning.

The decision comes as Michigan has had rising COVID-19 positives throughout the past week, and were coming off of a canceled game against Maryland this past Saturday. As of today, the Wolverines have been cleared for limited, distanced workouts, but have not yet been cleared to practice as a team.

The implications from this cancelation depend on the Big Ten decision makers. Currently, a 5-0 Ohio State team would not be able to play in the Big Ten Championship game. The rule has been that teams need to play six games in order to be eligible. In addition, Big Ten teams have not been allowed to schedule outside the conference under any circumstances.

The Big Ten will have one overarching priority in all of this: making sure Ohio State has every chance available to get into the College Football Playoff. With unprecedented rules in an unprecedented year, nothing would be surprising. The Big Ten has nothing holding them back from changing the qualifications for the championship game, or in allowing Ohio State to schedule an opponent for this weekend. Now, we wait and see.
