WATCH: Carson Wentz takes the field at OTAs donning No. 11 jersey

Carson Wentz was spotted wearing his No. 11 jersey during workouts at #Chiefs OTAs on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs have had some outstanding players wearing the No. 11 jersey over the years.

Most notably, quarterback Alex Smith wore No. 11 for Kansas City from 2013 through 2017, helping to lift the Chiefs back to relevance in Andy Reid’s first years as the team’s head coach.

When Smith left Western Missouri to start his tenure with the Washington Football Team in 2018, wide receiver Demarcus Robinson took over the number before Marquez Valdes-Scantling arrived in Kansas City in 2022.

Now, backup quarterback Carson Wentz is donning the No. 11 jersey with pride and was spotted wearing his Chiefs uniform for the first time at Kansas City’s organized team activities on Wednesday.

While Wentz isn’t likely to see consistent action for the Chiefs in the 2024 regular season, the legacy of the number will live on with him in the preseason and on the sideline as he seeks to become Kansas City’s next great second-stringer.

Update: Packers rookie WR Jayden Reed to wear No. 11

Reed won’t become the first player since Curly Lambeau to wear No. 1 in a regular season game. The rookie WR will wear No. 11.

Green Bay Packers rookie receiver Jayden Reed will not become the first player since Curly Lambeau to wear the No. 1 uniform in a regular season game. After giving Reed the historic number following his pick in the second round of the 2023 draft, the Packers switched Reed’s number to No. 11 on the team’s official roster on Saturday. It’s unclear what changed in terms of wearing the number.

Reed wore No. 5 and No. 1 at Michigan State. Both numbers are “unofficially” retired in Green Bay for Paul Hornung and Lambeau, respectively.

The most recent player to wear No. 11 in Green Bay is Sammy Watkins, who played nine games for the Packers last season. Recently rostered receivers Devin Funchess, Jarrett Boykin and Trevor Davis also wore the number.

The Packers have officially retired the following numbers: No. 3 (Tony Canadeo), No. 4 (Brett Favre), No. 14 (Don Hutson), No. 15 (Bart Starr), No. 66 (Ray Nitschke) and No. 92 (Reggie White)

No. 12 is also never expected to be worn again in honor of Aaron Rodgers.

Overall, the Packers have nine officially or unofficially retired numbers, including four single digits.

The Packers have not given out the No. 0, a newly available number for the 2023 season. The following rookie draft picks do not have numbers currently: Colby Wooden, Dontayvion Wicks, Sean Clifford, Karl Brooks, Anders Carlson, Carrington Valentine, Lew Nichols, Anthony Johnson Jr. and Grant DuBose.

Christian Watson wanted the No. 1 last year but was denied. He initially picked No. 82 before switching to No. 9.

Stadium’s Brett McMurphy has Gators outside of top 10 in latest rankings

UF slipped a few spots in Brett McMurphy of Stadium’s latest rankings due to sitting out second week as well as the inclusion of the Big Ten

The Florida Gators were idle again this past weekend but the games continued elsewhere around the nation as the Big Ten kicked off its fall schedule and the rest of college football carried on with Week 8.

The Alabama Crimson Tide retained the top spot, while the Clemson Tigers clung to No. 2 and the Buckeyes slipped in at third; the Notre Dame Fighting Irish dropped a notch to No. 4 and the Georgia Bulldogs fell to fifth, rounding out the top 5.

NFL Draft: Draft Wire lists Keaontay Ingram No. 11 running back

Keaontay Ingram will be eligible to leave Austin for the NFL after this season. In Draft Wire’s latest RB projections, Ingram is No. 11.

Keaontay Ingram had a breakout season last year, solidifying himself as a top running back in the Big 12. Only a sophomore, Ingram will now have at least one more season to prove himself before the NFL Draft.

Going into his junior year, Ingram will be eligible to leave Austin for the NFL after this season. In Draft Wire’s latest running back projections, 10 others rank ahead of Ingram, including two others from the Big 12.

No. 11 seems about right for Ingram, who is coming off a season with 853 yards and six touchdowns. His numbers fluctuated game to game, having as many as 139 yards against Kansas State, and having as little as nine yards against Oklahoma and Iowa State.

However, when this season is all said and done, he could be closer to the top five.

Ingram is projecting to get a massive bump in terms of production going into this season. Without a doubt, he is going to be Texas’ starting running back with Roschon Johnson and Bijan Robinson behind him. Even with the pressure of those two, Ingram is going to be the main back.

Another thing exciting about Ingram and his potential is his running backs coach, Stan Drayton. Former Ohio State and current Dallas Cowboys’ running back Ezekiel Elliot explained how Drayton developed and help him become the elite player he is today before getting drafted in 2016.

Drayton was a hot commodity this summer as well, with Mike McCarthy wanting to hire him as his running backs coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

Ingram will be looking to take an even bigger leap going into the 2020 season, trying to become the best running back in the conference. Having competition behind him may hurt his numbers but will help his development before the NFL Draft.

Longhorns Profile Snapshot: No. 11 Sam Ehlinger

LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster. Today, we will be looking at senior QB Sam Ehlinger.

Going into the 2020 football season, LonghornsWire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas roster.

Over the summer, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Tom Herman this season.

Today, we will be looking at senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger.

Height: 6-3 / Weight: 230

Class: Senior

Hometown: Austin

High School: Westlake

HS ranking (247Sports): Four-star / No. 208 overall / No. 4 position / No. 28 in-state

HS ranking (Rivals): Four-star / No. 115 overall / No. 5 position / No. 17 in-state

Analysis: Not only is Sam Ehlinger the main leader on the field but the senior quarterback is the current face of Texas football. Coming into his fourth year in the program and his third season as the full-time starter, Ehlinger has the weight of massive expectations on his shoulders this season.

Back in 2018, Ehlinger got the Longhorns to a Big 12 championship and won the Sugar Bowl against SEC powerhouse Georgia. Much of the same was expected last season but Ehlinger and the offense stalled at important times during conference play.

Recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Yurich is expected to change that problem, helping Ehlinger play at an elite level throughout all 12 games. With new and a different variety of receivers in 2020, the Texas offense is going to have plenty of weapons to go to. Ehlinger is poised for a breakout season which hopefully sees the Longhorns win their first Big 12 championship since 2009.
