SPECIAL DELIVERY: We need more sneakers like Ishod Wair’s new signature look in 2022

Ishod Wair’s brand new signature sneaker is brilliant.

Ishod Wair’s brand new signature sneaker ‘The Ishod’ is finally here after years of waiting and, somehow, it looks exactly like you’d think an Ishod sneaker would.

It’s been a long time coming for Nike’s skating superstar. From the time he was Thrasher Magazine’s 2013 Skater of the Year, it felt like special things were on the horizon. We all knew a signature shoe was coming — we just had to wait for it to happen.

It’s finally here and it feels like everything sneaker culture has been missing for the last few years.

There’s so much sameness in the culture today with the sneaker people love. It’s Jordan 1’s or Dunks or Air Force 1’s. There’s rarely anything different.

But these? These are very different, even if they feel similar. And they’re good. Check them out on this week’s episode of Special Delivery.

LOOK: Kyrie Irving wears rare ‘Jordan 4 Retro Oregon Ducks’ before Brooklyn Nets game

Kyrie Irving is a polarizing figure in today’s sporting world, but we can all get behind his shoe game at the very least.

[jwplayer S4Kjh3FZ]

Whether you agree or disagree with the actions of Brooklyn Nets’ star Kyrie Irving, or whether or not you’ve been even paying attention to what he’s been up to over the past year, Oregon Duck fans can at least get behind his recent choice in footwear.

Ahead of the Nets’ game against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, Irving showed up wearing a pair of the rare ‘Jordan 4 Retro Oregon Ducks.’ According to the Stock-X report, these shoes sell for an average amount of around $4,000, with the most expensive sale on the site coming in 2018 for a whopping $10,500.

Irving went on to have 30 points and 7 assists in 38 minutes during a one-point win for Brooklyn.

In the famous words of Mars Blackmon… “It’s gotta be the shoes!”

Nike Mania: Release of Air Jordan 1 Low G golf shoes creates frenzy

Nike’s new Air Jordan 1 Low G golf shoe is available online starting at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday.

Nike’s new Air Jordan 1 Low G golf shoe is available on the company’s website starting at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday but if the in-store shopping frenzy over the shoe in Korea is any indication, these shoes are going to be a hot item.

According to a story on Korea Times, fans of the footwear camped out in tents hours before the Shinsegae Department Store opened, then went on a foot race to grab the gear once the doors opened.

The report says about 30 stores in Korea stocked the shoes. Shinsegae had about 100 pairs priced at 179,000 won, which is about $150. They are listed at $140 on the Nike website.

Nike’s online description:

With Air in the heel, a Jumpman on the insole and an integrated traction pattern, it recreates the look of the low-cut original—but gives you everything you need to play 18 holes in comfort.

Expect a steep markup on the secondary market. The Korea Times reports that three hours after the Jordan 1 Low Gs were snatched up in stores, more than 200 pairs were sold on Kream, the biggest online resale platform in the country. The prices averaged $530, with one buyer paying about $670.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Patta keeps making the perfect Air Max 1. Here’s how

Patta and the Air Max 1 are like peanut butter and jelly at this point.

As a sneaker botique, Patta has a saying. It goes “Out of love and necessity rather than profit and novelty.”

Those are some meaningful words for a sneaker brand. This is their messaging to the public. They’re saying they care more about the community and the love of sneaker culture than the hype that comes with it. That’s their ethos.

You can see that ethos in every single version of the Air Max 1 Patta has made. They’ve touched the shoe 6 times now. In each and every instance, they’ve added a new detail that has somehow made it different than the last and improved on an already classic shoe.

Sykes dives into how they keep doing it on the latest episode of Special Delivery. Tap in.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Saquon Barkley’s new shoes are a big gamble for Nike, but here’s why it’ll pay off

The Air Trainer III can’t fail

Once upon a time, NFL players were big in the sneaker game.

You had Bo Jackson’s Air Trainer series, Deion Sanders with the Diamond Turf series, Marshall Faulk with the Air Barrage. Michael Vick and Randy Moss even had their own signature shoes at one point.

That doesn’t really happen anymore. You don’t see NFL players with signature sneakers at all — let alone player exclusive shoes. It’s extremely rare. The volatility there between sudden roster changes and potential injury risk makes having NFL signature athletes tough.

That’s why Saquon Barkley’s new Air Trainer III is a pretty big gamble on Nike’s part.

Despite recent history, though, I think it’s a gamble that will ultimately pay off. I explain why in this week’s episode of Special Delivery. You don’t want to miss it.

Houston Rockets jersey, uniform combinations for 2021-22 NBA season

With the 2021-22 NBA City jerseys now revealed, here’s a look at the four uniform sets that will be worn by the Rockets this season.

With the 2021-22 NBA City jerseys now revealed, here’s a look at the four Nike uniform editions that will be worn by the Houston Rockets this season. The year-long schedule for which uniforms will be worn for specific games is available now at NBA LockerVision.

In all, the Rockets will have four uniform sets this season: the red Icon, white Association, black Statement, and blue City. Unlike 2020-21, Houston will not release an Earned Edition this season, since those are reserved for teams that made the NBA playoffs in the previous season.

As was the case last season, the blue City Edition set includes a customized blue court to match. The City uniforms will be worn 12 times, all for home games at Toyota Center (which enables the matching court).

All of the uniforms will feature branding from Credit Karma Money, which is now Houston’s jersey patch sponsor. Here’s a look at the four 2021-22 uniforms, which can be purchased by fans at RocketsShop.com.

Rockets unveil new City Edition uniform for 2021-22 NBA season

Houston will wear its City uniforms for 12 home games during “Remix Nights” on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as for a New Year’s Day game.

In celebration of the league’s 75th anniversary season, the Houston Rockets have unveiled their 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition uniform. For each team, Nike’s vision in designing the City Edition jerseys was to remix the 75-year history of the NBA by pulling from each franchise’s iconic moments and accomplishments.

“Our new Nike NBA City Edition uniform is a great way to pay tribute to all of the amazing players and epic moments our fans have witnessed and been a part of throughout our 55 seasons as a franchise,” said Julian Duncan, chief marketing and strategy officer for the Rockets.

“We hope Rockets fans around the world will enjoy watching our exciting young players create new memories while celebrating our historic past throughout the NBA’s 75th anniversary season,” he added.

“The Houston Rockets have achieved a lot on the court, but they’ve accomplished just as much to expand the game off the court,” said Aaron Cain, men’s vice president and general manager at NIKE, Inc. “The uniforms were designed to honor those distinctly ‘H-Town’ achievements and styles — all with the heart of a champion.”

For the Rockets, Nike drew inspiration from the road jerseys the team wore during its championship seasons in 1993-94 and 1994-95 with the angled “Houston” wording across the chest. This is combined with the pinstripe look used from the mid 1990s through the early 2000s, which coincided with the rookie seasons of Steve Francis and Yao Ming.  The shorts continue the pinstripe theme from those uniforms blended in with the double-arch design and Rockets logo, which the team wore during its 22-game win streak in 2007-08.

Other touches include a golden “2” emblem on the back neckline of the jerseys to signify the Rockets back-to-back titles;the team’s current “H-Town” branding placed on the tag at the bottom left-hand corner of the jersey; a re-colorized version of the team’s original logo appearing on the top middle band of the shorts; and another reference to the championship seasons with ‘94 and ‘95 in the vents of the shorts.

The Rockets will wear these uniforms for 12 home games this season during “Remix Nights” on Thursdays and Fridays as well as for a special New Year’s Day game on Jan. 1, 2022.

A different Rockets player from throughout the franchise’s history will be honored in-arena for these dozen games, beginning with Mario Elie for the debut of the uniforms on Friday, Nov. 12 vs. Portland.

The Rockets are partnering with Contemporary Arts Museum Houston to create limited edition posters to celebrate each of the 11 Remix Night games on Thursdays and Fridays. A different local artist will be commissioned each game to create a poster inspired by the Rockets alumnus being honored. These posters will be sold at Toyota Center during the game, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the team’s Clutch City Foundation and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.

For the 2021-22 season, below is the list of all 12 games the Rockets will wear their Nike NBA City Edition uniforms:

  • Friday, Nov. 12 vs. Portland at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 3 vs. Orlando at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 10 vs. Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 16 vs. New York at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 31 vs. Miami at 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Jan. 1 vs. Denver at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Jan. 7 vs. Dallas at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Jan. 28 vs. Portland at 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 10 vs. Toronto at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, March 11 vs. Dallas at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, March 18 vs. Indiana at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, April 1 vs. Sacramento at 7 p.m.

For matching purposes, the 2021-22 City uniforms will include a customized blue court at Toyota Center for those games, as well.

All game times are Central. Preorders for fans to purchase the new uniforms will begin on Friday, Nov. 15, at RocketsShop.com.

Cold-weather apparel and accessories to lengthen your golf season

Want to extend your golf season a little longer? Here are a few new things to consider if you live where it’s cold.

With autumn leaves falling fast in New England and bomb cyclones pummeling the Pacific Coast with wind and rain, staying warm and dry on the course is getting tricky for golfers in many parts of the country.

Cold weather does a few things that can diminish your performance on the course. First, according to Titleist, a shot hit on a 50-degree day will fly three percent less far than it will at 70 degrees because colder air is thicker. So, your 200-yard shot will only fly 194. The bigger factor, however, is that adding sweaters, jackets and other insulating layers designed to keep you warm usually restricts your range of motion, so you swing slower. That will take even more yards off your shots.

Smart golfers are always on the lookout for apparel and accessories that can keep you warm and dry without hindering your swing. Here are a few new things to consider if you live where it’s cold and want to extend your season a little longer.
