The ‘Big Bubble’ version of Nike’s original Air Max 1 is the most fun way to celebrate this shoe’s cool history

The original to the original Air Max 1 is finally back after 40 years

Nike has a lot of history behind it, but the Air Max 1 is easily one of the most storied shoes on its roster.

The original version of the shoe dropped in 1987 when Nike tapped now legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield to design it. After nearly four decades, the shoe still resonates with sneakerheads everywhere.

But what most people didn’t know is that the original version of this legendary sneaker looked a bit different. The air bubble in the back heel was a bit bigger. And it came out a few months before the Air Max 1 we know now, but was recalled because of a quality issue.

Today, nearly 40 years later, Nike brought the original version of the original shoe back. And it looks just as fly as ever. We got our hands on a pair for a special episode of Special Delivery.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Kasina’s Nike Air Max 1 ‘Won-Ang’ has the sweetest story you’ll ever hear

Kasina’s “Won-Ang” Air Max 1 has the sweetest inspiration you’ll ever see in a sneaker

It’s always amazing to learn about other cultures. Anytime you can be introduced to something new, it’s a good thing.

But what makes Kasina’s Won-Ang Air Max 1 so special is the fact that the story is just so sweet. These shoes are based off of a centuries-old wedding tradition in South Korea that still goes on to this day.

This shoe explores that tradition through the different colors, details and textures featured so prominently on this shoe. It’s one of the best sneakers we’ve seen this year.

But is it the sneaker of the year so far? I’m not sure. It doesn’t really matter that much — these joints are so good we’ll be talking about them years from now regardless.

We explore all that and more on this week’s episode of Special Delivery.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Concepts New Air Max 1 is the trippiest shoe you’ll ever see

This shoe is so trippy

The wildest shoe that has released in 2022 so far is pretty easily Concepts’ brand new Air Max 1’s.

This ‘Mellow’ colorway and the ones that are following it are paying homage to the Air Max 1 with a theme pulled straight out of the 1960s and 1970s. Think Woodstock meets the Air Max 1 — quite literally. Because that’s what this shoe is.

It has acid-washed denim, corduroy, flower prints and paisley all over the place. They were made to evoke that festival wild vibe that was so prominent back in the day.

Basically, if a sneaker was an acid trip, this is what that sneaker would probably look like. I wouldn’t know — I’m not out here tripping. But you get the point.

Check them out on our latest episode of Special Delivery.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Patta keeps making the perfect Air Max 1. Here’s how

Patta and the Air Max 1 are like peanut butter and jelly at this point.

As a sneaker botique, Patta has a saying. It goes “Out of love and necessity rather than profit and novelty.”

Those are some meaningful words for a sneaker brand. This is their messaging to the public. They’re saying they care more about the community and the love of sneaker culture than the hype that comes with it. That’s their ethos.

You can see that ethos in every single version of the Air Max 1 Patta has made. They’ve touched the shoe 6 times now. In each and every instance, they’ve added a new detail that has somehow made it different than the last and improved on an already classic shoe.

Sykes dives into how they keep doing it on the latest episode of Special Delivery. Tap in.
