Jaguars lose to Falcons, 21-14: Here’s how Twitter reacted

Sunday’s game was one of the more winnable ones for the Jags, but they came up short and the reactions reflected a lot of disappointment.

The Jacksonville Jaguars found themselves on the losing end of their battle with the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, though they did try and make a second-half comeback in the game that ended with a 21-14 result. The loss marks the Jaguars’ third straight one, and they are now 2-9 on the season.

Things will not get any easier as Jacksonville will take on the Los Angeles Rams in SoFi Stadium Week 13. The Cardiac Cats haven’t won a game against them since 2009, and with the team’s respective records, the Jaguars will look to be a heavy underdog.

While Jaguars fans have been used to the losing, here are Twitter reactions from the Jaguars and Falcons game:

Jaguars inactives for Week 12 game vs. Falcons

In addition to CB Shaq Griffin being on the inactives list (as expected), the Jags had a new name within the group in rookie TE Luke Farrell.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be looking to garner their third victory of the 2021 season Sunday, and have a beatable Atlanta Falcons team coming to town to earn it against. However, they will have to do it without one of their defensive team captains in Shaquill Griffin, who Urban Meyer said would miss the game and officially showed up on the inactives list Sunday morning.

However, the veteran cornerback wasn’t the only notable to surface on the list as the Jags also listed tight end, Luke Farrell, among its group of six inactive players for the first time this season.

In addition to Griffin and Farrell, the full list is as follows:

Farrell, who was drafted by the Jags in the fifth round this April, is one of the team’s few rookies to play in every game to this point and even garnered two starts this season. However, with veteran tight end James O’Shaughnessy returning from injured reserve, it appears Farrell was the odd man out when it comes to his position.

As for the Falcons, running back Cordarrelle Patterson was cleared to play. However, linebacker Deion Jones will miss the game after being a late addition to the injury report this week.

3 bold predictions for Jags’ Week 12 matchup vs. Falcons

The Jaguars have a winnable game ahead of them Sunday and we’ve come up with a few bold predictions we could see happening as they take on the Falcons.

A quick look at the Jacksonville Jaguars’ schedule shows that there probably aren’t many games left that fans should feel good about, but Week 12’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons seems to be among the least intimidating. While they will come into Sunday’s game with two more wins than the Jags, the talent difference certainly doesn’t feel that significant, and if they play at a high level, they could end up with win No. 3.

On the roster, their offense is the unit that has to improve if the Jags are to get the upset over the Dirty Birds as they’ve struggled to score points since the bye week and have only garnered 43 points in the process. Meanwhile, the defense, which looked to be the weakest group on the team is expected to lead the team against a Falcons offense that’s struggling like the Jags’.

When factoring in all of these issues for both teams, Sunday’s game could be a close one, but we have three bold predictions that could help the Jags get another win if they happen:

Jags activate O’Shaughnessy, Linder from IR, also elevates Brown from practice squad

The Jags are bringing back two of their most experienced offensive players from IR before taking on the Falcons.

Earlier this week, Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer told the media that the team had plans to activate veteran tight end James O’Shaughnessy and center Brandon Linder from the injured reserve, and on Saturday, those plans came into fruition. The Jags announced that both veterans were officially placed back on the active roster, putting them both in position to take the field against the Atlanta Falcons.

O’Shaughnessy had been on injured reserve since the Jags’ Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos with an ankle injury. The injury was one that occurred early in the game and only allowed O’Shaughnessy to see the field for three snaps. As a result, the Jags were temporarily without their top pass-catching tight end, but have picked up notables Jacob Hollister and Dan Arnold since.

As for Linder, he sustained an MCL and ankle injury Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans on a goal-line rushing attempt. As a result, he was carted off the field and his injury left the Jags without a top-8 center in the league.

With Linder back, it could help the Jags struggling offense and Trevor Lawrence tremendously, while O’Shaughnessy could give the team a better option at the TE2 position.

The Jags also elevated receiver John Brown from their practice squad for the second consecutive week. With the need for some speed on the perimeter, the Jags signed him earlier this month. He received one target against the 49ers last week, but could see more time on the field against Atlanta with another week under his belt.

Brown will enter Sunday’s game with 320 career catches for 4,748 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns. He last registered statistics with the Buffalo Bills in 2020 after starting in eight games with the team and totaling 33 catches for 458 yards and three touchdowns.

Behind Enemy Lines: Week 12 Q&A with Falcons Wire

This week, we sat down with @Deen_NFL to learn a little about the Falcons heading into this week’s game.

This Sunday the Jacksonville Jaguars will be looking to acquire win No. 3 against an Atlanta Falcons team that endured a change at the head coaching position just as they did this offseason. In fact, the organization gave the job to a familiar face in Arthur Smith, who previously was the offensive coordinator for their division rivals: the Tennessee Titans.

Despite both teams enduring changes at the top, though, the Falcons are still a bubble team with a chance to make the playoffs, so they have a lot to play for. The Jags, on the other hand, aren’t mathematically out of the picture, but most understand that it would take a miracle at this point to make the postseason.

Still, the Falcons aren’t significantly better than the Jags and it’s clear the Cardiac Cats have a chance if they play a good game. To get more intel on Smith’s team heading into the game we chatted with Deen Worley of the Falcons Wire, and here are four questions he was able to answer about the Dirty Birds:

Jaguars final injury report for Week 12: CB Shaquill Griffin listed as lone player to sit vs. Falcons

The #Jaguars and #Falcons released their final injury reports of the week, and the Jags just have one player listed in the status column as expected.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released their final injury report for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons Friday afternoon, and as suspected, cornerback Shaquill Griffin (concussion) was the lone player to surface in the status column. Everyone else listed on the report was a full participant, including notables like running back James Robinson (heel/knee), linebacker Myles Jack (knee), and cornerback Tyson Campbell (shoulder), to name a few.

Griffin left the Jags’ last game before the first half with his injury. The injury possibly came on a play where he hit 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk during a 30-plus yard reception, but was unable to wrap him up.

Griffin’s injury will leave the Jags without their top cornerback, but with the Falcons’ passing offense ranking 21st, the Jags’ chances to win shouldn’t be significantly hurt. In fact, at one point, oddsmakers had the Falcons down as just 1.5-point favorites.

The Jags could roll with Tre Herndon as the starter in Griffin’s place. They also could roll with Nevin Lawson, who replaced Griffin last Sunday as Herndon was inactive.

As for the Falcons, linebacker Deion Jones (shoulder) and Running back Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) was ruled questionable. For a full preview of their full injury report, head here to the Falcons Wire for more.

Jaguars Week 12 injury report: 2 defensive starters miss practice for Jags Wednesday

Shaq Griffin didn’t practice Wednesday after sustaining a concussion against the 49ers Sunday, and neither did Myles Jack, who has been on the injury report the past few weeks with a knee injury.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a total of eight players on their first injury report for their Week 12 game against the Atlanta Falcons, three of which didn’t practice. Included with the trio of non-participants was starting linebacker Myles Jack (knee) and cornerback Shaquill Griffin (concussion).

Jack has been on the injury report with a knee injury dating back to Week 10 but hasn’t missed a game in the process.

As for Griffin, he sustained a concussion in the first half of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. It’s not clear when he sustained the concussion, but there was one play where Griffin made a huge hit on 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk during a 30-plus yard reception and bounced off him without wrapping up. Not too soon after that, it was reported that he sustained a concussion.

Aside from receiver Tavon Austin (shoulder), who also didn’t practice, every other player on the injury report was limited. That includes notables like running back James Robinson (heel/knee), cornerback Tyson Campbell (shoulder), punter Logan Cooke (knee), and safety Andre Cisco (groin). Both Campbell and Cisco exited Sunday’s game with their injuries, while Cooke and Robinson were on the previous injury report with their injuries.

As for the Falcons, the biggest notable to watch is running back Cordarrelle Patterson. He was limited on Wednesday after missing the Falcons’ last game, which was against New England.

Browns vs. Jaguars: Week 12 Jags Wire staff picks and predictions

The Jacksonville Jaguars (1-9) and Cleveland Browns (7-3) will meet at TIAA Bank Field Sunday for a game that has the potential to be competitive. However, both teams will have some injury and COVID-19 related hurdles to get past, which may not make it the easiest to watch.

Still, Week 12’s matchup feels like the it’s one the Browns should win in the eyes of the national media. That said, here are our thoughts on how the game could go as the Jags host their second consecutive competitors from the AFC North:

James Johnson (@Sportsgrind_Don): Browns 21, Jags 14

This game initially felt like one that was favorable for the Browns, and while it still is, their roster will be severely depleted (especially at defensive end) like the Jags. With that being the case, a shoot out isn’t out of the realm of possibilities, but the confidence in Mike Glennon just isn’t there for me.

That said, the Jags should rely heavily on running back James Robinson. If they do that, this will go down as another competitive game.

Phil Smith (@PhiltheFilipino): Browns 20, Jags 10

There have been times this season where the Browns have looked elite, then times where they’ve looked just absolutely abysmal. While they’ve won three of their last four, the argument can be made that none of those wins have been impressive. That being said, with Mike Glennon making his first start as a Jaguar without D.J. Chark and a veteran presence like Chris Conley, this one is probably going to be an ugly game to watch. The Browns have shown an infinity of playing down to the competition, but I still expect the Jaguars losing ways to continue.

Jacob DeLawrence (@_Jdela): Browns 28, Jags 14

The Jags are in the midst of a nine-game losing streak. During the streak, the Jags have played some of their best ball and some of the worst. I expect the trend of inconsistencies to continue when the Jags host the Browns. James Robinson will continue to be a bright spot for the team and has another solid day, but it isn’t enough to beat Baker Mayfield and company.

Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis): Browns 27, Jags 13

Another week, another starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars as they face off at home against the Cleveland Browns. This week, the quarterback happens to be former Tampa Bay Buccaneers draft pick, Mike Glennon. An already underwhelming secondary is battered and beat and doesn’t look ready for a Browns team fighting for a playoff bid. The Jaguars will once again have to call on rookie James Robinson in order to stay competitive in this one.

Will Frost (@willfrost_): Browns 27, Jags 10

Whilst their injuries aren’t as damaging as the situations in Baltimore and Denver, the Jaguars are fielding a shell of their already inexperienced roster this afternoon. With Nick Chubb back healthy and the Browns looking to secure a record of at least .500 since 2007, things could get ugly fast in this one.

Gimme him: 1 player for the Jags to steal from the Browns

The Browns have a lot of talented players the Jags could use but RG Wyatt Teller would be a huge addition for them.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be taking the field for their tenth game of the 2020 season Sunday as they play host to the Cleveland Browns. The team that will take the field against the Jags this week is one that is playing some of the best football their fans have- seen in a long time with a 7-3 record.

When looking at their roster, it shouldn’t come as a surprise as there is talent on both sides of the ball. With that being the case, we figured this would be the perfect time to hypothetically take a player from their roster as we occasionally do when evaluating the Jags’ opponents.

To make it interesting, we decided to stick with the players who will take the field Sunday, and despite injuries and COVID-19 affecting the roster, there are still a lot of good choices. Of course, the Jags need the most help on defense, however, the Browns’ top graded stars are mostly out, which brings us to the offense.

When evaluating the unit as a whole, there are several directions the Jags could go. The most notable names of the group undoubtedly are tailback Nick Chubb and receiver Jarvis Landry. However, the issue for the Jags with adding either is that they would be luxury snags as the Jags have a WR/RB duo of their own in D.J. Chark and James Robinson.

With that being the case, I zoned in on the Browns’ offensive line, which has several players playing well and has four players on it with a grade of 79.1 or higher, according to Pro Football Focus. The guard play in particular has been solid with Joel Bitonio registering an 83.8 overall grade on the left and Wyatt Teller registering a 95.6 at right guard. Both grades are good for fifth and first at the left and right guard, respectfully, making either choice a solid one. That said, I went with Teller.

While the Jags’ offensive line is one that a better quarterback could get by with, Teller would be a significant upgrade. His run-block grade of 94.6, in particular, is impressive (also good for first at his position), which would only help James Robinson that much more when running to the right. Heck, with the way Teller is playing, Robinson might have an even easier path to becoming Offensive Rookie of the Year, which is a goal he’s recently discussed.

When both teams take the field, Teller might not be a name the announcers mention much but make no mistake about it, he’ll need to have a big impact for the Browns to win. They will enter Week 12’s game without a lot of their stars, which means Chubb and the run game needs a strong day if the Browns are to win.

Jags designate LB Shaq Quarterman, DT Abry Jones to return from injured reserve

The Jags could have their most experienced defensive lineman back from injury soon in DT Abry Jones.

While they are dealing with several defensive injuries that occurred against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jacksonville Jaguars could be on their way to getting back two players who could make an impact. On Wednesday, the team announced that defensive tackle Abry Jones (ankle) and linebacker Shaq Quarterman (knee) were designated to return from injured reserve.

With the Jags limping into Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns and being without a few defensive coaches, any help is welcomed at this point. The Jags now have 21 days to activate both or either player to the active roster.

Jones, who is the Jaguars’ most experienced lineman, went on IR on Oct. 22 before the Jags’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He had started in the five games prior and accumulated eight total tackles, four of which were solo.

Quarterman went on IR on Nov. 7 before the Jags’ second game against the Houston Texans. He didn’t see the field for any snaps on defense but participated in 45% of the Jags’ special teams snaps up until Week 5.

First-round rookie Davon Hamilton took over as starter for Jones and the Jags might elect to keep it that way so the veteran can ease his way back into things. As for Quarterman, his return will more so help the special teams unit, though he could see snaps on defense if the Jags keep enduring injuries.
