RB Jerome Ford gets wrist X-rays following Browns win vs. Jaguars

Cleveland Browns RB Jerome Ford gets X-rays on his arm and wrist following the victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars

Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Ford got X-rays on his wrist after the victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jerome Ford briefly exited the game with a wrist injury. The starting running back was injured when he was tackled for a loss during the fourth quarter. The trainers immediately began testing Ford’s arm and wrist area after he walked to the sideline with pain visible on his face. Ford continued to play through whatever pain or injury he suffered as the Browns went on to beat the Jaguars.

Ford had for 42 yards on nine carries, and he caught four passes for 26 yards before his injury. He finished the game with three more carries for nine yards and a reception for seven yards. The toughness Ford displayed today will win fans and the admiration of his teammates.

The season’s theme for the Cleveland Browns is resiliency. The team has battled their way through injuries all season, and at 8-5 on the season, they’re winning a majority of those battles. Ford will have a week to heal before the Browns take on the Chicago Bears next Sunday.

Browns Injury Alert: S Grant Delpit leaves Jaguars game with groin injury

Cleveland Browns safety Grant Delpit exits the Jaguars game with a groin injury.

Cleveland Browns safety Grant Delpit went down with an injury during the fourth quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The veteran safety injured his groin while he was blitzing Trevor Lawrence. Delpit jumped into Lawrence’s passing window and landed on Myles Garrett. Delpit was down on the field for quite a while before trainers were able to escort him off the field and into the medical tent. Delpit was later driven into the locker room on the cart. He is questionable to return. He is one of many starters to exit with an injury.

Grant Delpit played an up-and-down game against the Jaguars. The safety had a crucial sack on third down that knocked the Jaguars out of field goal range. However, Delpit found himself targeted in two major plays between Evan Engram and Lawrence. One resulted in a touchdown, the other resulted in a first down.

Delpit signed a three-year thirty-six million dollar extension this morning. Delpit has been an integral piece of the Browns number one number-one-ranked defense and the team cemented him as a long-term piece.

Browns Injury Alert: CB Cameron Mitchell leaves game vs. Jaguars

Cleveland Browns CB Cameron Mitchell leaves the Jaguars game with an injury.

Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback Cameron Mitchell exited the game against the Jaguars during the third quarter. Mitchell was slow to get up after Travis Etienne’s touchdown run and walked off the field with the athletic trainers. He was escorted to the medical attempt immediately.

The rookie cornerback is playing his first game all month after being activated from injured reserve. Mitchell suffered a severe hamstring injury in the game against the Cardinals.

Mitchell started at nickelback as the team moved Greg Newsome II outside to replace Denzel Ward. Mitchell is a great option at slot, he seeks out ball carriers with the intensity of a safety, and can still cover wide receivers. Mitchell has a bright future with the team.

The Browns have struggled mightily at the slot role over the last month as the team has lost multiple cornerbacks to injury. The team needs to find a way to replace the backup if he’s unavailable to play. The Browns are currently beating the Jaguars 21-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

Browns Injury Alert: DT Jordan Elliott ruled out with concussion vs. Jaguars

Cleveland Browns DT Jordan Elliott exits game vs. Jaguars for a concussion evaluation

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Jordan Elliott exited the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with an injury. He left at the two-minute drill during the second quarter. He has a concussion per Mary Kay Cabot. The Browns have been plagued with concussion injuries over the past month, as they’ve lost multiple starters to the injury.

Elliott is an important part of the defensive tackle rotation. His unique blend of size, speed, and strength makes him an asset against the run and passing game. He’s a valuable starter. The Browns have a deep defensive tackle room and will rely on Maurice Hurst II and Shelby Harris during the second half. The veteran duo are a commendable pair and should have no problem facing a depleted Jaguars offensive line.

The Browns’ defense has suffocated the Jaguars so far in the matchup. Elliott contributed for one tackle. The Browns are currently beating the Jaguars 14-7 heading into halftime.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence to start vs. Browns

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is expected to start against the Cleveland Browns

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is expected to start against the Cleveland Browns this afternoon. Lawrence suffered a high ankle sprain against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. The injury looked severe in real time, as many on social media expected the quarterback to miss multiple weeks if not the entire season.

The Jaguars want to see how Lawrence does in pregame warmups before announcing him as the starter. He practiced with the Jaguars’ starters for most of the week heading into the Browns game. The Jaguars signed their practice squad quarterback Nathan Rourke on Friday as their emergency quarterback in case Lawrence and backup quarterback C.J. Beathard cannot play against the Browns.

Remarkably, Lawrence has never missed a game in his college or professional career due to injury. The franchise quarterback spent the entire week aggressively rehabbing his ankle. Lawrence needs to be at full health to take on the Cleveland Browns’ pass rushers. The Browns defense will look to terrorize Lawrence to secure a win. The Browns are 1.5-point favorites against the Jaguars.

Kevin Stefanski: Most starters won’t play in Browns’ preseason opener

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed that most starters will not play in Saturday’s preseason opener in Jacksonville

Browns fans hoping to see Odell Beckham Jr., Myles Garrett, Baker Mayfield or Nick Chubb in Saturday night’s preseason opener in Jacksonville will have to wait. Coach Kevin Stefanski is sitting the majority of his starters for the exhibition game.

“I think you take it all into account,” Stefanski said in his press conference on Thursday. “I think you take what you learned last year, you take the extra game, you take your players [into account].”

Stefanski continued,

“We’re just going to do what we think is right for the Cleveland Browns and specifically what’s right for each player. That’s how we’ll approach really all of our decisions.”

The coach was noncommital about how he will handle the second and third preseason games. But he did note that the rookies who are healthy enough to play will indeed see action against the Jaguars. That includes first-round pick Greg Newsome II at cornerback and second-round LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Baker Mayfield explains his ugly missed end zone throw

Mayfield had a good game against the Jaguars but it should have been even better

Baker Mayfield had an impressive game as a passer in Sunday’s 27-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mayfield completed 19 of his 29 pass attempts for 258 yards. He threw no interceptions and tossed two touchdowns.

For as good as it was, it should have been better. And Mayfield knows it.

Mayfield badly missed a wide-open Rashard Higgins in the end zone, a throw that made the rounds of the national media as an example of why Mayfield still isn’t good enough.

Those critiques are right. Just ask Mayfield himself. He talked about it in his press conference.

“I went on the Higgy (WR Rashard Higgins) one from high to low instead of high to low. I should be putting that ball on Higgins early instead of going from (TE) Harrison (Bryant) to him. Just late in the progression. I just need to put it on him earlier,” Mayfield explained.

He also brought up another seemingly simple throw he missed, this one to Jarvis Landry on a rollout. Landry had a great game but it would have been even more prolific with a good throw from Mayfield. The young QB also addressed that miss,

“The one to the left, the rollout there to Jarvis, just get it down. Plain and simple. I have made that throw 1,000 times. There are a lot of throws today that I make consistently so it is about making them. We found a way to win and that is the most important thing, but I am always going to be critical of myself.”

5 Takeaways from the Browns Week 12 win over the Jaguars

On Baker Mayfield, the return game, the pass rush and more

It’s Victory Monday for Browns fans everywhere, and that is a cause for celebration. In beating the Jacksonville Jaguars, 27-25, the Browns elevated themselves to 8-3 and the top of the AFC Wild Card race after Week 12.

Yet the way the team played on Sunday in eking past a 1-10 team starting its third-string quarterback and without several regular defensive starters, it’s hard to feel celebratory about Cleveland. In that spirit, I rewatched the broadcast feed of the game on Monday morning to make sure my snap judgments on Sunday held up.

Here’s what I took away from the Browns’ win over the Jaguars.

Jaguars fired their GM immediately after losing to the Browns

Caldwell was 37-85 as the Jaguars GM and lost 10 or more games 7 times in 8 seasons

Shortly after Baker Mayfield took a knee in victory formation for the Cleveland Browns in Jacksonville, the Jaguars decided enough was enough. The Jaguars fired longtime GM Dave Caldwell after Sunday’s loss.

Caldwell finishes his eight years in Jacksonville with a 37-85 record and double-digit losses in every year but one, including this season’s 1-10 mark. This was not a move made in haste by Jaguars owner Shad Khan; Caldwell simply ran out of rope.

The Browns are no longer the bottom-feeder that would merit embarrassment if a team lost to them. That’s not the narrative here. But it’s still nice to see the Browns rising up and leaving the realm of the teams in need of regime changes.
