Texans DE J.J. Watt lands at No. 45 on NFL Network’s Top 100 Players list

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt found a spot on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players list at No. 45 overall.

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has placed No. 45 overall on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players list.

The appearance is Watt’s eighth on the NFL Network’s list that is voted on by the players.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year played only eight games as his season was cut short with a torn pectoral muscle in Week 8. Watt returned from injured reserve for the Texans’ playoff run, producing two tackles, 1.0 sack, a tackle for loss, and a pass breakup in Houston’s two postseason games.

Watt collected 24 tackles, 4.0 sacks, four tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in his eight games with the Texans last year. The most impressive stat was his quarterback hits at 21. Cameron Wake was the only other player who played nine games or fewer and collected double-digit quarterback hits, and the Tennessee Titans edge rusher only had 11.

Entering his 10th NFL season after the Texans selected him in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Watt still yearns to deliver a Super Bowl for Houston.

“You play the game to win the Super Bowl,” Watt told reporters on May 27. “That’s the goal. That’s the driving force. It’s among many things, obviously, but that’s always number one, is to help your team, help your city get to that game and to win it. For me, motivation is not hard to come by. Whether it’s just personal intrinsic motivation every day, training, trying to get better, trying to compete against yourself, whether it’s competing on the field against other players and other teams, whether it’s finding motivation whatever way you need to. There will never be a shortage of motivation for me.”

In 2019, Watt was part of a Texans back-to-back as he placed No. 12 overall and receiver DeAndre Hopkins went ahead at No. 11. That Watt has fallen as far as No. 45 indicates the pectoral muscle impacted his standing with his peers, but not enough to keep him off the list.

Texans LT Laremy Tunsil claims No. 66 on NFL Network’s Top 100 Players list

Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil landed at No. 66 on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players list.

Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil landed on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players list Monday night.

The first-time Pro Bowler claimed his first ever appearance on the list as he ranked No. 66 overall.

Tunsil’s inclusion is a part of a 2020 offseason that has been nothing but wins for the former Miami Dolphins 2016 first-round pick. ESPN polled anonymous coaches, scouts, players, and front office personnel for a series of position breakdowns, and Tunsil was voted the second-best offensive tackle in pro football. Only the Dallas Cowboys’ Tyron Smith was better.

The former Ole Miss product signed a three-year contract extension worth $22 million in April. The Texans gave up two first-round picks and a second-rounder for Tunsil’s services, but he has proven to be the missing piece Houston needed to retool and fortify their offensive line.

“The main thing with me last year was the playbook,’ Tunsil told reporters on April 27. “I came at a late time, only had a couple of days to prepare for the game. But just to have that whole season, then this offseason under my belt, I think it’s going to help me with this playbook and my relationship with the players, and us being on the same page. I think that’s going to help a lot.”

With the rest of the NFL now on notice the Texans have a talented blindside protector, defensive coordinator will need to get more creative in finding ways to harass Deshaun Watson.

Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson finally makes his debut on NFL Network’s “Top 100 Players of 2020” list, landing at No. 96.

Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson’s season might have ended prematurely last year due to a hip injury, but things are already looking up for him in 2020.

On Sunday night, Carson finally made his debut on the NFL Network’s “Top 100 Players of 2020” list, landing at No. 96 overall.

In 15 regular-season games played, Carson finished his 2019 campaign with 278 carries for 1230 yards and seven touchdowns, marking his second straight year with 1000-plus rushing yards.

Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett has been dominating the NFL trenches since 2015, but is only just now receiving the credit he deserves.

An impressive 2019 campaign in which he racked up 69 tackles, 7.5 sacks and 16 QB hits helped Jarrett make his first Pro Bowl. The former fifth-round pick has become arguably the second-best interior lineman behind Aaron Donald.

Players around the league have taken notice. NFL Network released its Top 100 Players list, and Jarrett was voted in at No. 91. Watch the full three-minute segment on Atlanta’s star DT below:

Watch: Ryan Ramczyk introduced on NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2020

New Orleans Saints right tackle Ryan Ramczyk was introduced on the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2020 list by longtime Packers star Bryan Bulaga.

New Orleans Saints right tackle Ryan Ramczyk may have been named an All-Pro twice in his three-year NFL career, but he recently earned new recognition with a spot on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2020 list, as voted on by his peers. It’s the first appearance on this list for Ramczyk, who started right away as a rookie in 2017 and hasn’t let off the gas.

And Ramczyk was introduced by someone who knows a great right tackle when he sees one: longtime Green Bay Packers starter Bryan Bulaga, who signed a $30 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason after nearly a decade up north.

“I would say, for me personally, we’ve got to watch him on film a few times this year; that’s Ryan Ramczyk from the Saints,” Bulaga said, “A right tackle from Wisconsin, a Big-10 guy. I watch a lot of Big-10 football being in this state, I remember watching him a lot at Wisconsin. Seeing him in the NFL, I think he’s transitioned really well.”

Bulaga pointed to Ramczyk’s success in pivoting from playing left tackle full-time in college to standing out on the right side, which is no small thing to accomplish. Ramczyk’s clean footwork and consistent snap-to-snap execution have helped him dominate at the pro level, and Bulaga made sure to hammer that point home. You can see his full remarks and some of Ramczyk’s highlights in the video embedded below:

Broncos will have 2 players on NFL Network’s ‘Top 100’ list

The Broncos will have two players on the NFL Top 100 list this year.

NFL Network will reveal its 2020 list of the Top 100 players in the NFL this week. The list is made using results from player voting (but the process is flawed).

This year, the Denver Broncos will have two players on the list, according to a chart the NFL published on Reddit last week. It’s probably safe to assume Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller will make the cut. The list of candidates to join him includes star safety Justin Simmons.

Last year, Denver had three players on the list: Miller (No. 10), outside linebacker Bradley Chubb (No. 82) and running back Phillip Lindsay (No. 68). Chubb missed most of last season with an ACL injury and Lindsay’s production slipped so it wouldn’t be surprising to see them fall off the list.

The league interviewed 132 players and collected 970 ballots for this year’s ‘Top 100’ list. Players Nos. 100-71 will be revealed on NFL Network on Sunday, July 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The countdown will continue on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

5 Bears players that could be on NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2020

The Bears have two players on the Top 100 Players of 2020, and we’re taking a look at five current players that could make that list.

NFL Network is preparing to reveal its annual Top 100 Players list, which premieres this Sunday. The three-night event will air Sunday, July 26-Tuesday, July 28 with three, one-hour episodes staring at 7 PM CT.

The Top 100 list is voted on by the players, and it always causes some controversy, whether it’s regarding players ranked too high or too low or even players that get snubbed, as is true every year.

The NFL shared on Reddit how many players each team will have in the top 100. The Bears will only have two, which is down one from last season’s three.

Let’s take a look at five Bears players that could be one of those two spots on the NFL Network’s Top 100 Players of 2020.

1. OLB Khalik Mack

If there’s anyone on the Bears that’s a lock for the Top 100, it’s pass rusher Khalil Mack. Even despite a statistically down season, Mack remains one of the NFL’s best players. In 2019, Mack had 8.5 sacks, 47 combined tackles, five forced fumbles and 14 quarterback hits in his fifth Pro Bowl season. Mack was one of three Bears on the Top 100 last year, clocking in at No. 3. While his ranking on this year’s list might not be as high, there’s no doubt that Mack has locked up one of Chicago’s spot on the Top 100 Players of 2020.

Which Chiefs players will make NFL Network’s annual top 100 list?

The annual list voted on by NFL players is coming to NFL Network soon.

Current NFL players have been polled on their peers for the 10th consecutive season in order to rank the top 100 players in the NFL. NFL Network’s, “The Top 100 Players of 2020” is set to debut on Sunday, July 26 with No. 100-71. NFL Films gathered over 900 ballots and interviewed over 130 players for this year’s iteration of the annual show.

Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs had a total of six players make the list including Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, Mitchell Schwartz and Frank Clark. Yahoo Sports’ Terez Paylor reports that, once again, Kansas City will have six players on the top 100 list. According to Paylor, the Chiefs tie the Packers, Seahawks and Cowboys for the second-most players on the list. The Saints and the Ravens tie for first.

So who will make the list for Kansas City this season? It’s a good bet that Mahomes will be the highest-ranked player of the bunch and possibly could even take the No. 1 spot. It’s entirely possible that Tyrann Mathieu makes an appearance this season in lieu of someone like Schwartz or Clark.

Janoris Jenkins talks Saints return, 2020 expectations on Good Morning Football

New Orleans Saints CB Janoris Jenkins discussed Tom Brady and the Buccaneers, and the 2020 season in an interview with Good Morning Football

[jwplayer gZLVqzh3-ThvAeFxT]

The New Orleans Saints have one of the best starting cornerback duos you’ll find around the NFL, if they have anything to say about it. That’s what Janoris Jenkins asserted in a Thursday appearance on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” program, where he discussed his decision to sign a contract extension with the Saints as well as their in-house expectations for the 2020 season. He also dismissed any distractions from Tom Brady’s team-up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

One point Jenkins wanted to touch on was how his pairing with Marshon Lattimore matches up around the league; he’s eager to get to work and prove that he and Lattimore can win against any set of receivers you’ll find in the NFL.

But one opponent he credits as the toughest in-game assignment to cover was Antonio Brown, who might have joined him in New Orleans last year if the free agent wideout had avoided more legal trouble and not brought off-field drama into town with him. Brown’s combination of sure hands and precise routes gives anyone trouble.
