Colts’ 2023 NFL draft big board: Offensive Tackles

There are plenty of OT prospects for the Colts in this draft.

The Indianapolis Colts may have an idea of what their starting offensive tackle duo will look like entering the 2023 NFL draft, but depth and competition are needed in the worst way.

With only Bernhard Raimann and Braden Smith as players with experience on the roster, the Colts also have Jordan Murray and Carter O’Donnell rounding out the room. That’s it. We should expect the Colts to add a free agent after the draft, but depth is needed.

It’s a pretty solid draft class for offensive tackles. A lot of them have starting experience and versatility on both sides of the line. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Colts added two offensive tackle prospects with their nine selections.

As we break down the prospects by round, think of the “rounds” as tiers and when I believe the team should begin to consider drafting them.

Colts’ 2023 NFL draft big board: Interior OL

Here’s our NFL draft big board for the interior offensive linemen.

The Indianapolis Colts will have a keen eye on the offensive line prospects during the 2023 NFL draft when the big weekend arrives.

Needing to add some starting competition and depth to the right guard spot, the interior offensive line is one of the biggest needs on the roster for the Colts entering the draft. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they also added some depth to the center position.

This is a pretty good class for the Colts to need interior help. It seems the projected Day 2 prospects is where the value will be while there are some intriguing options on Day 3 as well.

As we break down the prospects by round, think of the “rounds” as tiers and when I believe the team should begin to consider drafting them.

Colts’ 2023 NFL draft big board: Wide Receivers

Here’s our big board for the WR position in the NFL draft.

The Indianapolis Colts have a solid starting wide receiver duo, but they still are likely to add some depth and upside to the room during the 2023 NFL draft.

With Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce projected to work on the outside, the Colts brought in Isaiah McKenzie to compete for the slot role. Ashton Dulin also will return as a special teamer and depth player in the room.

The Colts certainly have a type at the wide receiver position. They prefer the bigger, more athletic types even if it means that player is more raw when it comes to the techniques and nuances of route running. Ideally, they leave this draft with a prospect who can compete immediately as a slot receiver and one who can win vertically and/or after the catch.

As we break down the prospects by round, think of the “rounds” as tiers and when I believe the team should begin to consider drafting them.

Colts’ 2023 NFL draft big board: Tight Ends

Here’s our TE big board rankings for the Colts in the 2023 NFL draft.

The Indianapolis Colts will enter the 2023 NFL draft likely looking at positions other than tight end, but it’s a strong class with a lot of value.

With a pretty crowded room led by Mo Alie-Cox, Jelani Woods and Kylen Granson, there will be some competition for the fourth and final spot in the room with Andrew Ogletree and Pharoah Brown. But there’s still a chance the Colts add a Day 3 tight end to develop.

We shouldn’t expect the Colts to use a pick on a tight end before the fourth round. There are some intriguing options on Day 2, but the positional need probably won’t match the value there. Think of the “rounds” as tiers and when I believe the team should begin to consider drafting them.

Colts’ 2023 NFL draft big board: Running Backs

The Colts don’t need to draft a RB before Day 3, but here’s our big board for the position in 2023.

The Indianapolis Colts are going into the 2023 NFL draft with a solid backfield led by one of the league’s best in Jonathan Taylor.

This position may not even be on the list of needs for the team going into the draft, but this is a class that boasts a lot of depth even if there are question marks with a good portion of the prospects.

There is no reason the Colts need to spend earlier than a Day 3 pick on a running back if they really wanted to draft one. Even then, it might behoove them to wait until the fifth round. The room is solid with Taylor, Zack Moss and Deon Jackson, and they can probably scoop up some intriguing talent after the draft.

Colts’ 2023 NFL draft big board: Quarterbacks

Check out our Colts’ 2023 NFL draft big board at the quarterback position.

Throughout the entire offseason, the talk surrounding the Indianapolis Colts has been what direction they will go in at the quarterback position during the 2023 NFL draft.

In less than a week’s time, we will finally have that answer.

Scouting the quarterback position is the most time-consuming and most difficult position to project going into the NFL. But we do our best with the tape and information we have at our disposal.

We will hit every position leading up into the draft and then compile them all into one massive big board for the weekend. Breaking the prospects down into rounds, think of the rounds as tiers. The focus is less on the individual ranking and more on the group of players in a specific tier.

For the Colts’ purposes, we’re going to take a look at the first three rounds of the draft at the quarterback position. Since everyone expects the No. 4 overall pick to be a quarterback, it seems unnecessary to dive much deeper than that. For a more extensive (and probably smarter) big board, be sure to check out Jeff Risdon’s rankings over at Draft Wire.

Without further ado, here are my rankings for the top of quarterback draft class in 2023:

Where are Georgia Bulldogs ranked on PFF’s 2023 NFL draft big board?

Where does PFF rank Georgia Bulldogs on its 2023 NFL draft big board?

The Georgia Bulldogs have a 12 players participating at the 2023 NFL combine. However, Georgia wide receiver Kearis Jackson is not ranked in Pro Football Focus’ NFL draft big board rankings.

Overall, Georgia has 11 players in PFF’s big board, including six players ranked in the top 80 NFL draft prospects. The NFL combine could help boost the draft stocks of quite a few Georgia Bulldogs.

2023 NFL Draft: Top 50 prospects 1.0 (pre-combine version)

With the scouting combine just around the corner, Doug Farrar put together the first edition of his top 50 players in the 2023 NFL draft class.

There’s a lot that goes into a Big Board, and where you are in the evaluation process matters a lot. NFL teams have area scouts and scouting directors reporting to general managers; they’ve done the work on prospects all year long. If you’re writing about the NFL in-season, and sneaking away to watch as much college tape as possible, you’re scrambling a bit after the Super Bowl and before the scouting combine just to catch up.

So, full disclosure: This first Big Board of mine for the 2023 draft process reflects the 100-plus players I’ve watched to a point where I can reasonably assess what I think their NFL potential might be. Before the combine, I’ll watch a bunch more tape, and hopefully become more refined in the overall.

Once that happens, we’ll be building all kinds of position lists, single-subject evaluations, and mock drafts reflecting the widening of that study.

A few near-misses who may make the next Big Board based on combine and Pro Day performances, as well as further tape analysis:

Oregon LB Noah Sewell
Utah CB Clark Phillips III
Notre Dame EDGE Isaiah Foskey
Michigan DT Mazi Smith
Clemson TE Davis Allen
TCU OG Steve Avila
Alabama DB Eli Ricks
Houston WR Nathaniel “Tank” Dell
UCLA EDGE Laiatu Latu

With all that in mind, here’s Touchdown Wire’s introductory Top 50 draft prospects for 2023.

This will be a much better draft for Texas compared to last year.

After having zero players selected last year, Texas should be represented well in the 2023 NFL draft. Continue reading “Three Texas Longhorns featured on PFF’s Top 100 NFL draft board”
