2020 NFL Draft roundup: Klutch Sports has seven players selected

Klutch Sports participated in their first NFL Draft as an agency repping NFL players and they had a great weekend, including 2 Top-3 picks.

It’s been a long time since the fictional manager named Reggie Vaughn represented a fictional professional football player Jupiter Blackmon in the show LeBron James executive produced on STARZ called “Survivor’s Remorse.” For a few months now, the Klutch Sports vision has been a reality as an NFL agency but it came with another milestone this weekend with the agency undertaking its first NFL Draft together.

Klutch Sports had seven players drafted in over the course of the weekend’s 2020 NFL Draft, including two of the top three picks in the first round, Washington’s Chase Young and Detroit’s Jeff Okudah. Mekhi Becton also went in the 1st round to the New York Jets.

Joining the three first-round picks are receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. went in the 2nd round to the Jacksonville Jaguars and running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn will get the chance to play with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay after being drafted in the 3rd round. Cornerback Bryce Hall joins Becton on the Jets and offensive guard Tremayne Anchrum went in the 7th round to the Los Angeles Rams.

Eagles safety K’Von Wallace named one of the biggest steals of NFL Draft weekend by PFF

Eagles’ fourth-round pick K’Von Wallace named one of the biggest steals of NFL Draft weekend by Pro Football Focus

The Philadelphia Eagles hope they’ve found the next Brian Dawkins in former Clemson All-American safety K’Von Wallace.

listed at 5-11, 206, Wallace played some slot at Clemson, was used as a blitzer, and is more of a box safety that makes his presence felt on every down.

Pro Football Focus recently unveiled a list of the biggest steals from the weekends NFL Draft and the Eagles new defensive weapon was among the group.

PICK 127 — CB K’VON WALLACE, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
PFF Big Board rank: 60
With his physicality, instincts, and quicks, Wallace can play in the slot or box at an incredibly high level and should have been a second-round pick. Wallace was consistently solid in coverage at Clemson, but he took a huge step forward in 2019, logging an 89.7 coverage grade and combining for 10 pass breakups and interceptions (more than what he combined for in his last three years).

His improvement in coverage will bring the biggest value to the Eagles who desperately need his versatility in the secondary.

Wallace is athletic, sold, and will bring big-game experience from his time at Clemson.

Everyone loves their own kids, TikToks, and NFL draft classes – even if they’re awful. And with all three, it takes a while to know if they’re any good.

So how do you rank an NFL Draft class right after the draft weekend?

Some sure-thing stars flame out, some no-names rise up, and all the research and knowledge in the world doesn’t mean a thing if a guy gets hurt.

The goal is to find decent starters – anything other than that is blind luck. Seriously, there’s less than a 15% chance that a pick taken after the top 100 will be a starter for a least three years for your team.

The NFL Draft Team Rankings are based on value – at least the generally acknowledged perceived value of the draft slot – the tools, and the upside of each pick. Also, throw into the equation whether or not the holes and team needs were filled.

With all that in mind, from the college football perspective, the 2020 NFL Draft Team Rankings are …

32. New England Patriots 2020 NFL Draft

– The New England draft was freaking weird. At times, it was as if Bill Belichick and the Patriots were just picking random names of various college football players. There was little to no value with most of their selections in their respective spots, led by taking PK Justin Rohrwasser from Marshall – controversial tattoo and all – in the fifth. However …

– There was certainly a plan when it came to the tight ends. Even with UCLA’s Devin Asiasi and Virginia Tech’s Dalton Keene in the third round – two decent prospects – there wasn’t a whole lot of value. There’s also a plan to get to the quarterback with Michigan’s Josh Uche and Alabama’s Anfernee Jennings.

– Kyle Dugger in the second round was a terrific pick. He’s an elite tools talent who should quickly help out an aging secondary, but he needs to be fantastic for this draft to end up working.

There were a whole lot of draft picks to play around with, and there wasn’t any maneuvering to take a shot at one of the sliding quarterbacks – signing Michigan State’s Brian Lewerke as an undrafted free agent. It appears to be Jarrett Stidham or bust.

Best Value Pick: TE Devin Asiasi, UCLA (3rd)

Jalen Hurts contract details with Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles added Jalen Hurts to the roster via draft pick and his salary is already set in stone with the NFL’s rookie wage scale already in play.

Because Hurts was the No. 53 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, his rookie deal will be worth just over $6 million, with a $1.94 million signing bonus per Over The Cap.

[protected-iframe id=”9e18a94aa6499dbf0b7839af2f264c1f-105974728-133414687″ info=”https://overthecap.com/contract-embed/8793/” width=”600″ height=”214″ frameborder=”5″ scrolling=”no”]

Hurts will just under $1.1 million against the Eagles’ salary cap in 2020.

Hurts is a developmental quarterback but he’ll get his feet wet early as the Eagles view him in the same context the Saints view Taysom Hill.

Hurts is an improving passer and in 2019 at Oklahoma, he rushed for 1,298 yards and 20 touchdowns on top of the 3,851 passing yards and 32 touchdowns.

Send a lot of guys to the NFL, and recruits tend to want to play for you.

Here’s how all 130 FBS college football programs did in the 2020 NFL Draft. Who gets to chirp, and who didn’t get to have any fun this weekend.

One thing to note – it’s sometimes okay for a big-time football school to have a down draft. That mean a ton of great players are returning.

Or, it could mean the program has more work to do.

So here’s how this works. A team gets 7 points for each first round draft pick, 6 for a second, 5 for a third, 4 for a fourth, 3 for a fifth, 2 for a sixth, and 1 for a seventh round selection.

Former Alabama DB Shyheim Carter signing with Jets

Former Alabama defensive back Shyheim Carter will be signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent according to his agent.

It looks like Shyheim Carter will be signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent, according to his trainer Yo Murphy.

The news was released via Instagram late on Saturday night.

After being projected to be a Day 3 pick, the former Alabama defensive back ended up going undrafted before ultimately deciding to join the Jets.

He will be joining fellow Alabama alum C.J. Mosley, as well as former Tide teammate Quinnen Williams in New York.

Carter manned the STAR position for the Crimson Tide’s defense over the last two seasons, and head coach Nick Saban has been quoted saying that Carter was one of the most intelligent players he’s ever coached.

Over the course of the last two seasons, Carter has recorded 86 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions (two of which he returned for touchdowns) and 18 pass deflections.

At 5-foot-10, 194 pounds, Carter is slightly undersized, but he possesses a good, solid build that should fit in nicely as a potential depth option on New York’s defense.

Stay tuned for more NFL draft coverage from Roll Tide Wire, part of USA TODAY Sports!

NFL Draft: Tony Jones, Jr. Goes Undrafted, Signs with Saints

Jones finished his Notre Dame career with 1481 rushing yards (28th in school history) and 12 scores.  He added another 273 yards receiving, 51 of which came on the play that sealed a 12-0 regular season in 2018.  Why not watch that again?

I didn’t think it was a longshot but I did think it’d be a bit of an upset if Notre Dame running back Tony Jones, Jr. was selected in this years NFL Draft.  Jones unfortunately did not hear his name called in the seven rounds this weekend but did find a new home, signing as an un-drafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints.

Matt Freeman of Irish Sports Daily had the news Saturday afternoon.

Jones finished his Notre Dame career with 1481 rushing yards (28th in school history) and 12 scores.  He added another 273 yards receiving, 51 of which came on the play that sealed a 12-0 regular season in 2018.  Why not watch that again?

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0EX041dKQw&w=560&h=315]

That Boykin block will always be one of my favorite moments in watching Notre Dame football.  Jones also finished his Fighting Irish campaign with a bang, setting a Camping World Bowl record for longest run in the history of the game.

All the best to Jones with a Saints team that is about to enter a very interesting time for the franchise.

30. WR Juwan Johnson, Oregon

Okay, so he doesn’t have the blazing wheels, and he wasn’t quite as consistent or as devastating as he should’ve been, but he’s a 6-4, 230-pound matchup problem who should’ve been taken as a flier at some point on Saturday. There’s too much upside – and size – to ignore.
Signed By: COMING
Projected Round: Sixth

29. DT Darrion Daniels, Nebraska

A bit overloved by some throughout the offseason draft process, the 6-3, 311-pounder fell out of the draft with his lack of the NFL tools to be an every down starter. He’s a good worker who’ll do what’s needed, but he’s a backup for the interior rotation.
Signed By: COMING
Projected Round: Sixth

28. CB Lamar Jackson, Nebraska

Where do you want to play him? He’s a corner, but he’s 6-2 and 208 pounds with the versatility to work as a safety somewhere. The bulk is in place, and he can hit, but he’s just okay in coverage.
Signed By: New York Jets
Projected Round: Seventh

27. WR Binjimen Victor, Ohio State

With 6-4 size, great hands, and an excellent reel of good moment as a Buckeye, he should’ve gone before the seventh round as a good shot for the stars. He might not have tremendous wheels, but he’s fast enough to find a role.
Signed By: COMING
Projected Round: Sixth

26. DE LaDarius Hamilton, North Texas

The 6-2, 262-pound size was a problem. He’s not tall enough, he doesn’t have the right frame, and he just doesn’t look the part of an NFL end. He’s not bulky enough to work inside, even though he’ll do anything to make the play.
Signed By: Dallas
Projected Round: Seventh

25. DE Malcolm Roach, Texas

Where does he work on the line? The 6-2, 297-pounder is a smallish tackle who doesn’t play like one, and he’s not a normal pass rusher for the outside. There’s enough to like as a possible versatile backup.
Signed By: New Orleans
Projected Round: Seventh

24. CB AJ Green, Oklahoma State

The 6-2, 202-pound size makes up for his lack of next-level speed. There’s a good college resumé to like, but he’s a bit too much of a tweener for the NFL. He’s really a safety, but he’ll try to make a team as a corner.
Signed By: COMING
Projected Round: Sixth

[lawrence-related id=510908]

23. DT Josiah Coatney, Ole Miss

The lack of raw bulk is too much of a problem. He’s just 6-3 and 308 pounds, and he doesn’t have the athleticism to overcome his inability to bring the thump. However, he holds up well for his size against the run.
Signed By: COMING
Projected Round: Sixth

22. WR Austin Mack, Ohio State

This is a bit strange. Yeah, there isn’t any one thing that made him stand out from the pick of receivers, but he’s 6-2 and 208 pounds with good route-running ability, good toughness, and enough to be a No. 3 NFL receiver. He fell through the cracks.
Signed By: COMING
Projected Round: Sixth

21. RB James Robinson, Illinois State

It’s hard being a running back prospect. He’s not all that big, but he’s compact, tough, and he’ll bring the power for his 5-9, 219-pound size. There aren’t a lot of wow parts to his game, but he’s a productive talent who could fit nicely in a rotation.
Signed By: COMING
Projected Round: Sixth

Oklahoma’s Parnell Motley signs undrafted free agent deal with Tampa Bay, per report

Per a report from Darren Wolfson, Motley agreed to terms with the Buccaneers after having talks with the Minnesota Vikings.

Parnell Motley will get an opportunity to play with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay.

Per a report from Darren Wolfson, Motley agreed to terms with the Buccaneers after having talks with the Minnesota Vikings.

Surprising quite a few around the league by going undrafted, Motley was expected to be picked up n the third day of the draft between rounds five and seven.

A three-star recruit out of Washington D.C., Motley arrived at Norman in May of 2016 and earned his way into the starting cornerback role by 2017.

In his sophomore season, he finished with a career-high 49 solo tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.

In his final year as a Sooners, Motley finished with 31 solo tackles and one interception. Alex Grinch, the first-year defensive coordinator who preached aggression and the importance of forcing turnovers, helped him improve from just one forced fumble in two years to five in his senior season alone.

Motley finished his career as a Sooner with 130 solo tackles and 176 in total. He had 7.5 tackles for loss and six interceptions.
