NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Indianapolis Colts win in 2020?

Assessing the Indianapolis Colts’ projected win total for the 2020 NFL season, with best bets for their Over/Under.

How many games will the Indianapolis Colts win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Indianapolis Colts’ 2019 season

The Colts limped to a 7-9 finish last season, good for third place in the AFC South Division. While they finished 3-3 straight up inside the division, and a respectable 5-3 SU at home, they struggled with a 2-6 SU mark on the road. They went 7-7-2 against the spread with the Over outpacing the Under 9-7.

Indianapolis Colts’ 2020 offseason changes

The Colts will have a new signal-caller, as QB Philip Rivers begins his journey in Indianapolis after 16 campaigns with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers organization. It wasn’t a change, but the team was able to retain OT Anthony Castonzo on a two-year, $33 million deal, giving Rivers some nice protection. The other big free-agency splashes for Indy was CB Xavier Rhodes and TE Trey Burton.

The Colts did not have a first-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft after trading for DL DeForest Buckner, but they still had a strong draft. They selected WR Michael Pittman Jr. (USC) and RB Jonathan Taylor (Wisconsin) in the second round while nabbing S Julian Blackmon (Utah) in the third. They added a potential backup with QB Jacob Eason (Washington) in Round 4, while selecting OL Danny Pinter (Ball State) in the fifth.

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Odds last updated Wednesday, May 6 at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Projected wins: 8.5 / OVER: -164 / UNDER: +135

The Colts are middle of the round in terms of strength of schedule for the 2020 season, as their opponents posted a combined record of 128-127-1 in 2019, or a winning percentage of .502. They should have some success against the Jaguars inside the division, but battles against the Texans and Titans could be difficult.

Their non-division schedule is so-so, particularly on the road with several winnable games, but home games against the Packers, Ravens and Vikings are difficult. As such, the UNDER 8.5 wins (+135) is rather attractive, as the Colts should be a .500 team at best.

NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Kansas City Chiefs win in 2020?

Assessing the Kansas City Chiefs’ projected win total for the 2020 NFL season, with best bets for their Over/Under.

How many games will the Kansas City Chiefs win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Kansas City Chiefs’ 2019 season

Despite hitting a bump in the road with QB Patrick Mahomes‘ injury, the Chiefs cruised through the regular season to a 12-4 record. They erased huge deficits in two of their playoff games and came back in Super Bowl LIV, too, in winning the Lombardi Trophy.

In their 19 total games between the regular season and postseason, the Chiefs were 13-5-1 against the spread, the best mark in the NFL. They also finished with an 10-9 Over/Under record (8-8 regular season, 2-1 postseason).

Kansas City Chiefs’ 2020 offseason changes

As good as the Chiefs were a season ago, they might be even better in 2020. They’re set to return 20 starters from the team that won it all last year, and also signed players such as CB Bashaud Breeland and TE Ricky Seals-Jones.

The biggest addition of all, however, was the selection of LSU RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire at No. 32 overall in the draft. He’ll be an impact rookie and likely the team’s top running back in Week 1.

Kansas City Chiefs’ 2020 win total: Best bet

Projected wins: 11.5 / OVER: -130 / UNDER: +110

The Chiefs are already the betting favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions, and there’s no reason for them not to be. They didn’t suffer any major losses, added Edwards-Helaire and have a healthy FS Juan Thornhill returning.

No one else in the AFC made major strides on the path to unseating the Chiefs as the best team, either. The Chiefs are in a great position to repeat as not only AFC West champions, but also to reach the Super Bowl again.

Looking at their recent history, there’s a great chance they’ll finish with at least 12 wins, too. They’ve gone 12-4 in three of the last four years and have teams such as the Dolphins, Jets, Falcons and Panthers on their schedule.

Their other opponents aren’t easy outs, but the Chiefs should go at least 12-4. Bet the OVER 11.5 (-130), and bet on Mahomes to continue working his magic.

Who will start at QB for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1?

Projecting the Week 1 starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, with NFL futures betting odds and picks.

The Dallas Cowboys suddenly face a quarterback controversy of their own creation after QB Andy Dalton was signed to a bargain free-agent deal while incumbent starter Dak Prescott threatens a holdout due to the franchise tag. Below, we focus on which quarterback will be the Cowboys’ Week 1 starter and the NFL futures betting odds from BetMGM sportsbook.

Dallas Cowboys: QB depth chart

  • Prescott (-2000): Has guided the Cowboys to a record of 40-24 without missing a start in four seasons since being chosen in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Threw for a career-high 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2019 with a modest 11 interceptions.
  • Dalton (+600): Signed a one-year, $3 million deal and could be worth up to $7 million after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals. Owns a 70-61-2 record over a nine-year career with three Pro Bowl appearances. Threw just 16 touchdowns against 14 interceptions over 13 games in 2019.
  • Ben DiNucci (+4000): Seventh-round pick of the 2020 NFL Draft out of James Madison.
  • Clayton Thorson (+5000): Fifth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2019 NFL Draft.
  • Cam Newton (+5000): Top remaining free-agent QB following his release from the Carolina Panthers.

Dallas Cowboys’ Week 1 starter: Best bet

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Odds last updated Wednesday, May 6 at 12:20 p.m. ET.

Prescott is rightfully the odds-on favorite to retain his starting job for America’s Team. He’s coming off the best season of his young career and is the centerpiece of one of the NFL’s best offensive trios along with RB Ezekiel Elliott and WR Amari Cooper. While the other two recently received mega-extensions, Prescott is set to play the 2020 season on the one-year franchise tag for $31.4 million.

There’s no value in betting Prescott with a $10 bet returning a profit of just $0.50.

With the threat of Prescott holding out in favor of a long-term contract, DALTON is worth at least a small wager at +600 to take the Cowboys’ first snap of the 2020 season. He’s a very capable NFL starter and the same $10 bet will return a profit of $60. Back Dalton, or sit this one out.

NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Jacksonville Jaguars win in 2020?

How many games will the Jacksonville Jaguars win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2019 season

The Jaguars finished fourth in the AFC South Division with a 6-10 record. They were slightly better against the spread, going 7-9, while they posted an 8-7-1 Over/Under mark.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2020 offseason changes

After signing QB Nick Foles to a huge contract last offseason, they traded him to the Chicago Bears. They also traded DE Calais Campbell to the Baltimore Ravens and CB A.J. Bouye to the Denver Broncos. They signed DL Rodney Gunter and LB Joe Schobert. With their first three draft picks, they added CB CJ Henderson (Florida), pass rusher K’Lavon Chaisson (LSU) and WR Laviska Shenault Jr. (Colorado).

Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2020 win total: Best bet

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Odds last updated Wednesday, May 6 at 4 a.m. ET.

Projected wins: 5 / OVER: +100 / UNDER: -121

Early in the offseason, it looked like the Jaguars were in full tank mode, hoping to land Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 NFL Draft, as they traded away their best defensive players. QB Gardner Minshew is fun to watch and was very effective early but appears to be a new Ryan Fitzpatrick — a player who will put up big numbers for bad teams.

The Jaguars are still the fourth-best team in their division. With the Over/Under set at an even 5 games, a push feels like the most likely outcome. But expecting the Jaguars to win at least as many games as last year when they got worse on defense and didn’t really get better on offense. Take the UNDER 5 (-121).

NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Green Bay Packers win in 2020?

Assessing the Green Bay Packers’ projected win total for the 2020 NFL season, with best bets for their Over/Under.

How many games will the Green Bay Packers win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Packers’ 2019 season

Record: 13-3 (1st in the NFC North)

Against the Spread Record: 10-6

Playoffs:  Clinched a first-round bye and entered the postseason as the 2-seed but lost at the 1-seed San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Conference Championship.

Packers’ 2020 offseason changes

Head coach Matt LaFleur enters his second season with the Packers, and after trading up in the first round to select QB Jordan Love it appears Green Bay is shifting into a new era.

Most NFL experts were stunned at the Packers’ 2020 NFL Draft strategy, deciding not to take a wide receiver in a deep receiver draft, and selecting two-down RB A.J. Dillon in the second round. When you add in the Packers’ three offensive linemen in the sixth round, it would appear Green Bay is transitioning to a run-first offense.

Green Bay lost more than it gained during free agency. The offense lost nine-year starter RT Bryan Bulaga, TE Jimmy Graham and WR Geronimo Allison. The defense saw linebackers Kyler Fackrell and Blake Martinez (Packers’ leading tackler in 2019) both land with the New York Giants. Packers’ notable new hires include WR Devin Funchess and LB Christian Kirksey.

Packers’ 2020 win total: Best bet

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Odds last updated Tuesday, May 5 at 3 p.m. ET.

Projected wins: 9 / OVER: EVEN / UNDER: -120

Because the NFL injects parity into its league, the first metric I look at when betting a team’s regular-season wins is their record in one-score games. Green Bay’s 8-1 record in such games in 2019 should regress in 2020.

Also, the Packers mopped up the NFC North going 6-0 in division games in 2019 and that will not continue this season. Furthermore, Green Bay played the 17th toughest schedule (according to FootballOutsiders.com) and their 2020 slate should be much harder.

To punctuate the handicap, the 2019 Green Bay Packers were the most fraudulent 13-3 team in NFL history. They had a minus-0.3 yard per play differential and aside from their two wins over the Vikings, the only winning team the Packers beat in the 2019 regular season was a Kansas City Chiefs team without QB Patrick Mahomes in Week 8.

BET UNDER 9 (-120) WINS.

NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Houston Texans win in 2020?

Assessing the Houston Texans’ projected win total for the 2020 NFL season, with best bets for their Over/Under.

How many games will the Houston Texans win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Houston Texans’ 2019 season

The Texans finished 10-6 last season, winning the AFC South and advancing to the divisional round of the playoffs with a win over the Buffalo Bills in a wild-card matchup. They blew a big lead to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in the second round, but for a while, it looked like Houston might be on its way to the AFC championship.

Despite going 11-7, including the playoffs, the Texans were only 8-9-1 against the spread in 2019.

Houston Texans’ 2020 offseason changes

Head coach/general manager Bill O’Brien and the Texans have been busy this offseason, making several marquee moves. They traded WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for RB David Johnson, acquired WR Brandin Cooks in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams and signed OT Laremy Tunsil to a massive extension.

They also signed WR Randall Cobb in free agency, giving QB Deshaun Watson another weapon on offense.

In the draft, the Texans added DT Ross Blacklock in the second round, and edge rusher Jonathan Greenard in Round 3.

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Odds last updated Monday, May 4 at 1 p.m. ET.

Projected wins: 7.5 / OVER: -110 / UNDER: -110

The Texans will look a lot different than they did last year, particularly with Hopkins gone; however, they still have a strong roster, and the addition of Cooks should help mitigate the loss of Hopkins.

Since O’Brien took over as head coach in 2014, the Texans have finished below .500 only once (2017). They’ve gone a combined 21-11 in the last two years with consecutive division titles, and that’s with EDGE J.J. Watt missing significant time, Jadeveon Clowney being traded and a shaky offensive line.

Playing in the AFC South certainly helps the Texans’ cause, with two games coming against the Jaguars. The Titans are on the rise and the Colts now have QB Philip Rivers, but the Texans still look like one of the two best teams in the division.

Bet the OVER 7.5 (-110) as Houston should finish with at least a .500 record, but likely better.

NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Detroit Lions win in 2020?

Assessing the Detroit Lions’ projected win total for the 2020 NFL season, with best bets for their Over/Under.

How many games will the Detroit Lions win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Detroit Lions’ 2019 season

The Lions limped to a terrible 3-12-1 record, including a 2-6 mark at home. In addition, they were just 2-9-1 in the NFC while going 0-6 in the NFC North Division. They managed to cover six of their 16 games, and they hit the Over in 10 of 16 outings.

Detroit Lions’ 2020 offseason changes

The Lions weren’t terribly active in free agency, although they moved to bolster the defense with LB Jamie Collins, CB Desmond Trufant and DL Danny Shelton. OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai was added to the O-line, while CB Darius Slay was shipped to the Philadelphia Eagles in a mid-March trade for draft picks.

The Lions made big moves in the 2020 NFL Draft, snagging CB Jeff Okudah (Ohio State) with the No. 3 overall selection. They also added RB D’Andre Swift (Georgia) in the second round, EDGE Julian Okwara (Notre Dame) and OL Jonah Jackson (Ohio State) in the third, OL Logan Stenberg (Kentucky) in Round 4, WR Quintez Cephus (Wisconsin) and RB Jason Huntley (New Mexico State) in the fifth, DL John Penisini (Utah) in the sixth and DL Jashon Cornell (Ohio State) in the seventh round.

Projected wins: 6.5 / OVER: -139 / UNDER: +115

The Lions were terrible in 2019, but that’s mostly due to QB Matthew Stafford suffering a crippling back injury that sent him to the sidelines. He was on pace for a Pro Bowl-type season had he stayed healthy. He is back, and has help in the run game, while the Lions improved on the defensive side of the ball. However, the UNDER 6.5 (+115) is still worth a look. Even if the Lions are able to double their win total from 2019, they’ll still come in just under.

How many games will the Denver Broncos win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Denver Broncos’ 2019 season

The Broncos transitioned from veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to Drew Lock. After losing their first four contests of 2019, they rallied to finish 7-9 straight up and 9-7 against the spread with a 7-9 Over/Under record.

Denver Broncos’ 2020 offseason changes

The Broncos released Flacco, while CB Chris Harris Jr., OL Connor McGovern, S Will Parks and DE Derek Wolfe signed elsewhere in free agency. They traded for DL Jurell Casey and CB A.J. Bouye, while signing RB Melvin Gordon, TE Nick Vannett and OL Graham Glasgow. They used their two top draft picks on WRs Jerry Jeudy (Alabama) and K.J. Hamler (Penn State).

The Broncos added offensive weapons for Lock. However, while head coach Vic Fangio’s defense is proven, it will be tough to build on last season when the Broncos have to face the Super Bowl champion Chiefs twice. They also have to face three other expected Super Bowl contenders in the Saints, Bucs and Patriots. This season looks like another seven-win year for the Broncos. Take the UNDER 7.5 (-105).

NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Dallas Cowboys win in 2020?

Assessing the Dallas Cowboys’ projected win total for the 2020 NFL season, with best bets for their Over/Under.

How many games will the Dallas Cowboys win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Dallas Cowboys’ 2019 season

The Cowboys went into the final month of the season with a great chance to make the playoffs. But they fell apart down the stretch, going 2-4 in their final six games to miss the postseason with an 8-8 record. That was despite ranking sixth in points scored, first in total yards, 11th in points allowed and ninth in total defense.

On the betting side, Dallas finished 9-7 against the spread and posted a 10-6 Over/Under record.

Dallas Cowboys’ 2020 offseason changes

The Cowboys underwent a lot of changes this offseason. They overhauled their coaching staff by letting Jason Garrett go and replacing him with Mike McCarthy, who brought in his own assistants.

They had one of the best drafts of any team, starting with WR CeeDee Lamb (Oklahoma) in the first round (17th overall). CB Trevon Diggs (Alabama), DL Neville Gallimore (Oklahoma) and CB Reggie Robinson (Tulsa) were their next three picks. They also signed DTs Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe in free agency, as well as S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

Projected wins: 9.5 / OVER: -139 / UNDER: +115

The Cowboys have alternated strong and disappointing seasons since 2013, winning fewer than 10 games one year and more than nine the next. They only won eight in 2019, so they’re due for double-digit victories in 2020, right?

They should win at least 10 games, but not because of that trend. The NFC East remains one of the weakest divisions in the NFL, especially with the Giants and Redskins still rebuilding around young quarterbacks. The Eagles won the NFC East last year and have done well this offseason, but they’re really the only true threat in the division.

The Cowboys don’t have the easiest schedule, with the Ravens, Vikings, Seahawks and 49ers on it, but they also get breaks with seven of their games coming against the Redskins, Giants, Falcons, Bengals and Browns.

Bet the OVER (-139), but it’s far from a lock that the Cowboys will finish with more than nine wins.

NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Cleveland Browns win in 2020?

Assessing the Cleveland Browns’ projected win total for the 2020 NFL season, with best bets for their Over/Under.

How many games will the Cleveland Browns win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM‘s projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Cleveland Browns’ 2019 season

The Browns entered the season with high expectations. They were considered a sleeper pick for the Super Bowl after adding WR Odell Beckham Jr. – WR Jarvis Landry was acquired the offseason before, in 2018.

However, their defense struggled, first-time head coach Freddie Kitchens was in over his head – he was fired after the season – and QB Baker Mayfield regressed after a promising rookie campaign. They finished 6-10 straight up, losing their final three games, and ended up third in the NFC North Division.

As for gambling trends, they were 5-10-1 against the spread with an 8-8 Over/Under record.

Cleveland Browns’ 2020 offseason changes

The Browns have made big offensive additions. They signed OT Jack Conklin and drafted OT Jedrick Wills Jr. (Alabama) in the first round to protect Mayfield. They signed TE Austin Hooper and re-signed RB Kareem Hunt. On defense, they signed FS Andrew Sendejo and SS Karl Joseph.

They replaced Kitchens with Kevin Stefanski, who will be a head coach for the first time in his career. They also hired San Francisco 49ers DB coach Joe Woods to be their defensive coordinator.

However, they lost LBs Joe Schobert and Christian Kirksey in free agency.

The Browns are even more talented than last season when they were expected to be a playoff team. With a first-year coach for the second consecutive season, they play in a traditionally tough division, but have many winnable games on their schedule. With better protection for Mayfield and more weapons, the Browns should be in the mix for a playoff spot. Though the 8.5 wins leave little room for error, this Browns team appears to be able to win between 9-11 games. Take the OVER 8.5 (-105).
