Huskers fall to No. 3 Oregon State in second round of NCAA Tournament

The Nebraska women’s basketball team entered the second round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday afternoon, the Nebraska women’s basketball team entered the second round of the NCAA tournament. The No. 6 Huskers faced off against host No. 3 Oregon State for a chance to reach the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2013. However, this did not come to pass. Nebraska fell to the Beavers 61-51, ending its run and the season.

The Beavers took a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and kept their cushion of a lead for the remainder of the game. The middle quarters resulted in 34 total points combined, with Nebraska outscoring Oregon State 18-16. The Huskers scored 22 points in the fourth, but the Beavers scored 26.

Jaz Shelley scored 10 points, leading Nebraska in the field as its only double-digit scorer. Alexis Markowski and Annika Stewart both scored eight points in the loss. Markowski also hauled in eight rebounds to lead the team. Oregon State meanwhile finished with three players in double-digits for scoring.

Nebraska concluded the season with a final record of 23-12, the second-best record under head coach Amy Williams.

Nebraska completed its final home game of the regular season against Rutgers. The Huskers took down the Scarlet Knights in a stellar 67-56 win to accompany their celebration of Senior Night.

Nebraska honored four seniors on the night: Keisei Tominaga, Josiah Allick, C.J. Wilcher, and Jarron Coleman. The squad combined for 36 points on the night, nearly half of the points scored by Nebraska in the win. The Huskers spent almost the entire game with the lead, and Rutgers never held it.

Tominaga led Nebraska in scoring, tallying up 18 points on the night. Juwan Gary dropped 15 points in the win and hauled in 11 rebounds to earn his fifth double-double of the season. Allick also earned a double-double, scoring 10 points and snatching a team-high and season-high 12 rebounds, his first of the season.

The Huskers move to 21-9 on the season and 11-8 in conference play. Nebraska will hit the road to face Michigan for its final regular season game. Tipoff is set for Sunday morning at 11 a.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Though Nebraska and Ohio State battled throughout the night, the Huskers failed to take the lead in the second half. The Buckeyes’ Jamison Battle dominated the game for Ohio State, scoring 32 points and going a perfect 10-of-10 from the foul line.

The 32-point effort by Battle made it the most points scored by a player against the Huskers this season. Ohio State’s main source of scoring came from the free-throw line. The Buckeyes shot 24-of-28 from the line, while Nebraska shot just 7-of-8.

Rienk Mast and Jamarques Lawrence led Nebraska in scoring, delivering 14 points apiece. Mast also hauled in 12 rebounds to post his sixth double-double of the year.

The Huskers fall to 20-9 on the season and 10-8 in conference play, all eight conference losses coming on the road. Nebraska will return home to face Rutgers for Senior Night on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

The Huskers came out on fire, finishing the first quarter up 20-8 before building the lead to 34-21 in the second quarter. Nebraska delivered a volley from beyond the arc, going 11-of-27 in three-point shooting.

Jaz Shelley finished with 16 points to lead the Huskers and went four-of-nine in three-point shooting. Shelley also led Nebraska in assists, finishing the game with seven. Natalie Potts delivered 12 points for the Huskers, going five-of-eight in total shooting.

Alexis Markowski rounded out Nebraska’s double-digit scorers in the win, scoring 10 points. Markowski also hauled in a team-high 12 rebounds to earn her 17th double-double of the season and her 38th of her career. Markowski is now 2nd in school history for double-doubles in a season and in a career.

Nebraska moves to 19-9 in the regular season and 11-6 in conference play. It will conclude the regular season on the road against Illinois on Mar. 3. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

The Huskers dominated the Hoosiers throughout the night, even ending the first half up 51-31. Though Indiana attempted a comeback, Nebraska never let the Hoosiers get close enough to take control of the game. The Huskers delivered big from beyond the arc, finishing the night by going 14-of-33 in three-point shooting.

Keisei Tominaga and Jamarques Lawrence served up most of the three-pointers. Tominaga shot four-of-nine from beyond the arc to finish the game with 20 points, leading the team in scoring. Lawrence went a perfect five-of-five from beyond the arc, wrapping up the night with 19 points.

Brice Williams scored 18 points for Nebraska, going 6-of-10 in total shooting. Juwan Gary tallied up 15 points, going 6-of-12 in shooting.

The Huskers controlled the game from the start, blowing past the Wildcats and ending the first quarter up 20-6. Nebraska continued its surge until the end.

Freshman Natalie Potts finished the night as Nebraska’s top scorer, dropping 18 points. She also hauled in 10 rebounds to make it her fourth double-double of the season and led the team in steals with three.

Annika Stewart finished second in scoring for the Huskers, tallying up 13 points in the win. Freshman Logan Nissley dropped 12 points and led Nebraska in assists with six.

Alexis Markowski delivered 12 points for Nebraska while also earning ten rebounds for her 15th double-double of the season. Markowski is now second in school history for career double-doubles with 37 and tied her career-high for double-doubles in a season.

While the Huskers have only played once in the last ten days, they were able to move up in multiple ranking systems across the college basketball industry. The Cornhuskers will take to the floor on Wednesday when they travel to Bloomington to take on the Indiana Hoosiers.

Nissley’s 18 points tied her season-high, which she earned by going 6-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. A majority of Shelley’s points came from the free throw line, going a perfect 10-for-10. This makes Shelley the 16th player in school history to go perfect at the free throw line with a minimum of 10 free throws made.

The Huskers outshot Penn State 27-18 in baskets made, allowing them to pull away in the second half. Keisei Tominaga finished as the top scorer for Nebraska in the win, dropping 17 points and going three-of-eight from beyond the arc. The Huskers finished the game with four three-point baskets.

Juwan Gary and Rienk Mast both scored double-digit points for Nebraska in the win. Gary delivered 13 points by going five-of-nine in total shooting. Mast scored 12 points, landing five of seven shots in the win. He also led the team in rebounds with nine.

The Huskers move to 18-8 on the season and need one more win to match their best season total since 2018. Nebraska will hit the road to face Indiana on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Nebraska trailed throughout the game, heading into halftime down 33-19. The Huskers fell further in the third quarter, heading into the fourth, trailing 62-34 before eventually ending the game with an 80-47 defeat.

Nebraska coughed up 30 turnovers in the loss, leading to the Buckeyes scoring 29 points off turnovers. Ohio State also landed 14 more shots than the Huskers. Not a single Husker scored double-digits, with Alexis Markowski leading Nebraska with nine points. Markowski also led the Huskers in rebounds, hauling in on the night.

Nebraska now falls to 16-9 in the regular season and 8-6 in conference play. The Huskers will remain on the road, heading west to face Purdue on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.
