Kansas high school football “Player of the Year” names Nebraska to Top 10

The best high school football player in Kansas from last year names Nebraska one of his Top Ten teams!

A class of 2023 running back and the best high school football player in Kansas last year has announced his top ten schools, and Nebraska is in the running. Dylan Edwards, a four-star recruit out of Derby High School in Derby, Kansas, announced the ten schools that he will continue to focus on during his recruitment process. Those schools are Jackson State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. In a tweet sent out on Friday afternoon, Edwards writes.

“Through this process I was blessed enough to build great relationships with coaches, and I am forever grateful of that. These are my top 10 schools that i will focus on. I will take my 5 official visits In the months of June, and plan to commit shortly after that. “

 

Edwards has already earned multiple accolades for his on-the-field excellence. He’s been named an Under Armour All-American and was the 2021 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year. During his award-winning junior season, Edwards ran for 2,603 yards and 40 touchdowns with 3,214 all-purpose yards. In addition, he averaged 13 yards per carry and 221 yards per game for a Derby High School team that lost in the Class 6A state championship game.

Husker’s offer scholarship to JUCO lineman

The latest scholarship offer to a JUCO defensive lineman shows Nebraska is still looking to add depth for the Blackshirts.

Nebraska football continues to remain active in both the transfer portal and the junior college market with their latest scholarship offer to one of the top JUCO players remaining.Ā Defensive lineman Taylor Lewis has announced that he received an offer from Nebraska Defensive Coordinator Eric Chinander to play for the Cornhuskers this upcoming season.

The 6’3″ 295-pound Kenwood, Illinois native had 19 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks. For the last two seasons, the defensive tackle had been playing for College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. Lewis currently has offers from 17 Division I football programs, including Power 5 schools like Orgon State and Missouri. The Tigers offered Lewis less than 24 hours before Nebraska.

The Huskers continue to look for depth on the interior of the defensive line after the departures of Casey Rogers and Jordon Riley to the University of Oregon. Both will now play under former Husker and current Duck’s defensive line coach Tony Tuioti.

Taylor Lewis is expected to make an official announcement by the end of May.

Pair of 2023 recruits visit Lincoln later this month

Nebraska will have a chance to impress two of their targets for the offense in the 2023 recruiting class later this month.

Nebraska has a pair of members of the 2023 recruiting class who will be visiting the Lincoln campus later this month. Wide receiver Jaidyn Doss and offensive tackle Cayden Green have both announced via social media that they will be taking official visits to Nebraska on May 22nd.

Doss is a 6’0″ 195-pound 3-star prospect out of Raymore-Peculiar High School in Peculiar, Missouri. on3.com says that Doss is currently deciding between Oregon, Kansas State, and Missouri. The Tigers are seen as the front-runner right now but just barely over Nebraska.

It’s just another example of the job wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph has done to make the Huskers consistently competitive for pass-catching talent no matter where it’s located across the country.

Cayden Green will also be visiting Lincoln, Nebraska on May 22nd. Green is a 6’5″ 310-pound offensive tackle out of Lees Summit, Missouri. The 4-star prospect is projected by on3.com the Huskers in the top two, the problem is that Oklahoma right now is seen as the runaway favorite.

It’s not the first time that either of these players has visited Nebraska as Doss visited Lincoln during the spring game on March 7th while Green made a stop on March 21st. Neither of these players looks to be in a hurry to make a decision on their future so Nebraska will just have to put their best foot forward on May 22nd and let the chips fall where they may.

5-Star Husker legacy prospect announces commitment

A 5-star quarterback with family connections to Nebraska Football has announced his commitment to the 2024 recruiting class.

A 5-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class with family ties to Nebraska Football announced his school selection on Monday night. Quarterback Dylan Raiola of Chandler, Arizona, announced on Twitter that he would be committing to Ohio State University. The junior signal-caller chose the Buckeyes over other programs like Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, and USC. His 5-Star ranking comes from on3.com.

There was hope that Nebraska could be in the running, given his family’s connection to Cornhusker football. Dylan Raiola is the son of former Husker offensive lineman Dominic Raiola. Dominic played in Lincoln from 1998-2000, was a consensus All-American in 2000, and has had his Number 54 jersey retired by the school. However, the family association with Husker football doesnā€™t end there, as his uncle Donavan Raiola was recently hired as the Nebraska offensive line coach. Donavan had spent the last four seasons with the Chicago Bears. He also visited Lincoln during the Spring Game on April 9th.

Raiola currently plays for Chandler High School in Arizona after playing for Burleson High School in Texas for his Sophomore year. During that season in 2021, he threw for 3,341 yards and 42 touchdowns while leading his team to an 8-4 record. Raiola is the first official recruit of the Ohio State 2024 recruiting class.

Where does Nebraska’s 2023 recruiting class currently rank?

A new list ranking the 2023 recruiting class has been released and the Huskers spot shouldn’t be surprising.

Nebraska Football’s 2023 recruiting class is no longer ranked in the Top 25 according to ESPN. The Huskers are currently sitting with five commitments for the upcoming recruits.

It’s no surprise that Nebraska has fallen out of the top 25 since ESPN last ranked the upcoming classes. With how much time Nebraska has spent in the transfer portal recruiting players like defensive lineman Ochaun Mathis, Devin Drew, and quarterbacks Casey Thompson and Chubba Purdy, it shouldn’t come as a shock to see that the 2023 class is currently not as strong as people might anticipate. I have no doubt that Scott Frost and the staff will be active on the recruiting trail in the future, and I expect to see the Husker’s class only get stronger.

Former Husker’s son offered scholarship

A pair of prep stars have been offered scholarships, and both have a Nebraska connection.

A pair of big-time athletes have received scholarship offers from the University of Nebraska, and one of the prep stars has a connection to Cornhusker history. Nebraska has offered a scholarship to Jeremiah Newcome of Castille High School in Gilbert, Arizona. Newcombe is the son of former Husker Quarterback and Wingback Bobby Newcombe. Bobby Newcombe played for Nebraska from 1997 to 2000, winning a national championship in 1997 and a pair of Big XII titles. He took over as quarterback from Scott Frost in 1998, but a knee injury would hamper his season in which he was forced to split time with another quarterback on the depth chart, Eric Crouch. As a result, Newcombe would lose his quarterback spot at the start of the ’99 season and finish his career as a receiver. Jeremiah Newcombe is a 5’11” 175-pound cornerback who has received offers from other schools like Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan State, and USC. Newcombe is currently a member of the 2024 recruiting class.

Beni Ngoyi is a 2023 3-star receiver who plays at Lincoln High in Lincoln, Nebraska. The 6’4″ 180-pound pass-catcher has seen his recruitment interest grow in recent weeks. He currently holds offers from teams like Minnesota, Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State. The Huskers have made a recent effort to sure up in-state recruiting, and this is another example of the investment in homegrown talent. In fact, three of the five individuals in the 2023 class are from the state of Nebraska. Offensive Tackle Gunnar Gottula (4-star), Wide Receiver Benjamin Brahmer (3-star), and inside offensive lineman Sam Sledge (3-star).

Scott Frost and Trev Alberts both said during the spring game that they wanted to make an effort to bolster in-state recruiting and to reach out and connect with Huskers of the past. These two offers show that they are following through on their words with action.

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to Malachi Coleman, the top recruit in Nebraska.

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to Malachi Coleman, the top recruit in Nebraska. Coleman is a four-star athlete and the No. 15 athlete in the class of 2023.

Malachi Coleman plays high school football for Lincoln East in Lincoln, Nebraska. The University of Nebraska is located in Lincoln. Will Coleman stay home and play for the Cornhuskers?

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound athlete is the No. 197 recruit in the country. Coleman plays football, basketball, and track for Lincoln East.

Wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon offered Coleman a scholarship on March 19, 2022. Coleman visited Georgia for the weekend and came away with a scholarship offer.

Iowa, Maryland, Texas Tech, Colorado State, and many more have offered scholarships to Malachi Coleman.

The four-star athlete has been invited to the All-American Bowl. Coleman

Georgia has the fourth-best class of 2023 in the country. The Dawgs have commitments from seven 2023 recruits including one wide receiver.

Malachi Coleman is currently projected to commit to Nebraska, but Georgia won’t give up without a fight.

UGA football in top two for RB Amari Daniels

Amari Daniels, a class of 2021 running back, is planning on committing to either the University of Georgia or Texas A&M.

Notre Dame Offers Star Hawaiian Linebacker

Notre Dame has created a nice pipeline to recruiting Hawaii and just made a new scholarship offer to the state’s top prospect in 2022.

Notre Dame’s recent pipeline to recruiting Hawaii is well-documented with Manti Te’o, Robby Toma, Alohi Gilman and the late Kona Schwenke being just a few players that came to South Bend, Indiana from the islands.

Now Notre Dame has their eye on another defensive star as they’ve made a scholarship offer to 2022 outside linebacker Tevarua Tafiti.

Tafiti is listed at 6-3, 205 pounds.Ā  He may have a bit of a narrow build but packs a huge punch as a pass rusher as 247Sports ranks him as a four-star talent.

Notre Dame is the 13th team to make an offer to Tafiti as the Irish join Arizona State, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisville, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, Washington, Washington State and Wisconsin in doing so.

Tafiti had 27 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and three forced fumbles as a sophomore at Punahou High School in Honolulu.

Brevard’s complete list of top schools includes: Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Georgia, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Florida State, Louisville, Memphis, and Kentucky. He’s projected to end up with either the Oregon Ducks or the Ole Miss Rebels.

At Mississippi. Brevard would have a chance to be a key piece in Lane Kiffin’s first full recruiting class at Ole Miss. Will he stay home or go elsewhere? We’ll continue to update you on his recruitment.

Kirby Smart and Georgia have several commitments in the class of 2021. UGA is doing an excellent job securing top talent in the Peach State for the class. Georgia recently landed a commitment from four-star defensive end Elijah Jeudy.
