Where Wisconsin lands in ESPN’s “way too early” Top 25

Where Wisconsin lands in ESPN’s “way too early” Top 25

Following Georgia taking home the national championship, ESPN released the first iteration of their “way too early” top 25.

Wisconsin landed just outside of the top teams, but was still listed in the “just missed” section.

Iowa barely slid into near the end of the rankings, while Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State were near the top of the rankings. It’s no surprise that back-to-back champion Georgia ended up at the top of the rankings.

Who else ended up in ESPN’s first rankings of the offseason? Here is a complete look at the top 25, with a bonus of ten teams in the “just missed” section of the rankings:

Who has the best odds to win next year’s national championship?

Where Wisconsin lands in teams with the best odds to win next year’s national championship

Wisconsin football is off and running in the Luke Fickell era, as they’ve collected a number of big-time transfers and recruits over the past month and change.

Georgia certainly heads into next year as the class of college football, and are unsurprisingly at the top of next year’s betting odds after back-to-back championship wins. Where do the Badgers and the rest of the Big Ten’s top teams stand?

Wisconsin landed within the top 25, and have better odds than they did a year ago heading into the season.

Here are the top 25 teams with the best odds to win next year’s national championship, per BetMGM:

College Football: Amway Coaches Poll adjusts for this fall

Changes are coming as to who gets a vote in the 2020 Amway Coaches Poll.

The Amway Coaches Poll Powered by USA TODAY will be a bit different this season as only coaches on teams that are participating in football this fall will be eligible to vote.

Of the usual 130 FBS college football programs that suit up each fall, only 76 are set to be in action this season.  As a result, the previous 65 coaches who were set to vote in the poll all year have been reduced to 42, all of which whose programs will be playing football this fall.

The first regular season Amway Coaches Poll is set to be released on September 13, a day after much of college football kicks off the 2020 season.

The final poll of the regular season will be announced on December 20, the day after the regular season is currently set to conclude.

Notre Dame ranked tenth in the initial Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY as it was released three weeks ago.

College Football: How appealing is Notre Dame job?

Just how appealing is the job of head coach at Notre Dame? It’s a big time job but clearly not for everyone, even the great ones.

Remember the video game, “NCAA Football” that was put together by Electronic Arts?

I miss that game.  I miss starting as a head coach at a small school and working my way up the ladder to the more prestigious football programs.

In that game each football program would be given a star rating in terms of the caliber of job it was.  The truly elites like Alabama, Ohio State, USC and a few others, usually Notre Dame included, got the maximum star rating.

Adam Rittenberg of ESPN put together a similar ranking recently as he put the FBS head coaching jobs in different tiers based on their level of appeal for a head coach.

In those rankings, Notre Dame didn’t reach the highest of tiers as that was reserved for Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas.

If it’s based on recent accomplishment I’d have a problem with it but it’s not.  It’s a ranking built on the job and the difficulty, or lack-there-of to win big with regularity.  Everything from assistant coaches pay to practice facilities and the amount of local talent to recruit are factored in.

With that in mind it’s nearly impossible to have an issue with any of the eight teams he listed in the highest of tiers.  Just because teams don’t win big doesn’t mean their programs aren’t in a great spot to succeed.

Notre Dame came in ranked in tier-two.  Joining them were Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M and Washington.

I’d actually argue that Auburn and Texas A&M should be in tier one based on endless resources in regards to facilities, home-base recruiting and boosters with deep pockets.

If you’re ranking the jobs that bring the most attention, no doubt Notre Dame is on the shortest of lists.  When you discuss the most-appealing though, it’s clear that it’s not a place that your standard good college coaches are going to have major success.

Notre Dame Top 10 in ESPN’s “Way Too Early Top 25 Poll”

Today ESPN released their same list and the Irish were shown significantly more respect by writer Mark Schlabach who has Notre Dame at number 10.

Welcome to one of the worst sports-days of the year.

College football concluded for the season last night and now we have to wait until the end of August to recap actual games and live and die with every first down, touchdown and coaches decision we agree with or hate.

With that however, the nation is putting out their “Way Too Early Top 25” polls for the 2020 season, before we even know who is staying in school and who all is entering the NFL Draft.

Yesterday we reacted to Brett McMurphy of Stadium who had Notre Dame ranked laughably low.

Today ESPN released their same list and the Irish were shown significantly more respect by writer Mark Schlabach who has Notre Dame at number 10.

Outlook: After suffering early losses at Georgia and Michigan, the Irish were never serious contenders for a CFP spot this past season. They still won 11 games and blasted Iowa State 33-9 in the Camping World Bowl. With quarterback Ian Book and all five starting offensive linemen returning, the Irish have a good nucleus coming back on offense. But they must replace leading receivers Claypool and Finke, leading rusher Jones and Kmet, who was a matchup nightmare. Northwestern graduate transfer Bennett Skowronek and incoming four-star receiver Jordan Johnson might be able to help right away. Brian Kelly is also looking for a new offensive coordinator after Chip Long was pushed out. It might be former quarterback Tom Rees, who called plays in the bowl game. The Irish will also have to replace all four starters in the secondary after Gilman decided to bypass his fourth season. Notre Dame plays Wisconsin at Lambeau Field and hosts Clemson, but it might be favored in its 10 other regular-season games.

That’s how Schlabach looks at Notre Dame in 2020.

For the record he has Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama and LSU as his top-four.

No. 1 Clemson and No. 14 Wisconsin are the only two Notre Dame opponents for 2020 who can be found in this particular top-25.

Where is Ohio State ranked in FOX analyst’s way-too-early Top 25?

The Ohio State football program is expected to be a team to reckon with again according to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports.

It’s been time to move on from 2019 for two weeks now. Are you there yet?

However, the Ohio State Buckeyes won’t get the sting of that crushing College Football Playoff semifinal defeat out of their mouths until the 2020 season is upon us. Thankfully, they’ll likely be competing at the highest level next year as well.

Bruce Feldman, a FOX Sports’ analyst, ranked his way-too-early top-25 for 2020. Ohio State, who will be returning Heisman finalist Justin Fields, came in at No. 2.

Clemson took the top spot while LSU, Alabama, and Oregon rounded out the top five. Penn State was the only other Big Ten team in the top-ten aside from OSU.

The Buckeyes will be losing J.K. Dobbins, Chase Young, Jeff Okudah and an array of talented receivers. But, they will be bringing in the nation’s best offensive lineman, Paris Johnson Jr., and wide receiver, Julian Fleming along with other highly skilled pass catchers.

They’ve tag-teamed to help Ohio State boast the fourth-best recruiting class according to 247 Sports. That’s why the Buckeyes will be able to reload so easily and why Feldman believes they could compete for really big things again in 2020.

That said, while 2019 may still be rough for fans to take in, 2020 should help give hope that this program will stay among the top tier in college football.

Ranking the top Georgia football wins of the decade: #1

UGA Wire reveals the top Georgia football wins of the decade

In honor of the start of 2020 Wednesday, we decided to put together a list of the Top 10 Georgia football wins from the past decade.

Of course, we listed nine other games in our rankings list, but everyone already knows what No. 1 is, right?

If you hadn’t already guessed it, it’s the 2017-18 Rose Bowl.

Surprise… Surprise…

But seriously… do we even need to say anything else? We’ll just attach the highlights clip as you imagine Sony Michel running into the California sunset on New Years Day, sending the Dawgs home to the championship game.

We can all forget what happened the week after and just pretend the season ended in Pasadena. Sound good?

What a game! At least Baker Mayfield and the Sooners were able to put up some points in this playoff game, however. The amount of twists and turns our hearts took that day will probably cost us a couple years in life, but honestly who cares,

I miss this day.

College Football Playoff: Instant Reaction to New Rankings

how in the world can you justify Penn State being eight spots higher?
