Auburn baseball predicted to finish 5th in SEC West ahead of opening day

Ahead of its opening series of the 2024 season, Auburn baseball has been predicted to finish 5th in the SEC West by the conference coaches committee.

After a year in which they made a regional exit, Auburn baseball prepares for another season with high expectations set for themselves as they attempt to make a run back to Omaha. However, the coaches committee does not pit the Tigers as doing too hot in the 2024 season.

The SEC coaches predicted Auburn to finish fifth in the SEC West this upcoming baseball season in the preseason poll.

West division foe Arkansas was picked to win both the West and the SEC Championship. The Razorbacks received nine votes to win the title. Reigning national championship title series teams LSU and Florida each received three and two votes, respectively.

The Tigers open up the season on Friday, Feb. 16, against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at Plainsman Park. They will start conference play on March 15 against the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville, while the 2024 SEC Baseball Tournament will be held May 21-26 in Hoover, Alabama.

Here is a look at the full preseason poll.

SEC Champion: Arkansas (9), LSU (3), Florida (2)

Rank Eastern Division Western Division
1. Florida (11) – 88 Arkansas (9) – 87
2. Tennessee (2) – 75 LSU (5) – 82

Notre Dame football: Morrison disrespected as third-team preseason All-American?

Disrespect?

I’ll start this by saying that I’m not huge on preseason All-American teams.  If you think the significance of preseason team rankings is useless then the announcement of preseason All-American and all-conference teams is significantly more-so.

However, they do help generate conversation and as we get into summer and games are still almost 12 weeks away I’m not against more college football conversation.

In looking at the Athlon Sports college football preview magazine I was caught a bit by their preseason All-American teams in regards to a Notre Dame player.

Offensive tackle Joe Alt was named a first team member, something nobody is going to argue.  However, Benjamin Morrison appeared not on the first or second teams but instead on the third-team.

I’m not going to freak out over this because I’ll save that for things that are significant but nobody listed on the first or second teams touched Morrison’s six interceptions a season ago.  That’s not to say interceptions are the only thing that matter in regards to a corner but they’re clearly significant.

Kool-Aid McKinstry (Alabama) and Kalen King (Penn State) were the first-team cornerback selections while Cooper DeJean (Iowa) and Fentrell Cypress (Florida State) were on the second-team.  Will Johnson (Michigan) joined Morrison on the third-team.

Again, I’m not going to lose my mind over it, but just thought it was worth pointing out.

Enjoy a few of the best photos from Benjamin Morrison’s Notre Dame career to date below!

College football: Sporting News releases post-spring top 25 poll

Another day and another post-spring college football top 25. Did this one get Notre Dame the most right yet?

As we’ve discussed this week has been a big week for post-spring college football rankings.  I’m not going to lie, it seems a little bit absurd to put a whole lot into what is said with over 100 days until the season kicks off.

However.

There is almost always a however.

I’m no idiot, either.  I see the numbers that these rankings do whenever they’re posted so since you the people want them then we’ll continue to post and share them.

The latest comes from Bill Bender of The Sporting News.  He put out his piece on college football’s post-spring top 25 on Thursday.  In it Notre Dame found a top-1o landing spot so they check in higher than ESPN had them but lower than what USA TODAY Sports said earlier in the week.

Perhaps the surprise isn’t that Notre Dame is tenth, that’s right about where we would have them if we did our own, but some of the teams they’re both ahead of and trail stick out the most.  Here is Bender and The Sporting News’ entire top 25:

Texas football projected to be just outside the top 10 to start 2023

The Longhorns have a clear path to establishing themselves as a top team.

With college football kicking off within the next 30 days we are finally beginning to talk about the on-field product. Continue reading “Texas football projected to be just outside the top 10 to start 2023”

College football 2023: Projecting the preseason top-25 rankings

We all expect Georgia to be No. 1 but what about 2-5?

We’ve reached the end of July which means college football is less than a month away from its regular-season kickoff. Actual games – it feels like it’s been forever.

With that in mind, we know we’ll soon see the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and Associated Press Top 25 polls. How will those rankings look?

We took a look at four major college football outlets and how they ranked teams so far this preseason. Using a very complex formula (25 points for No. 1, 24 points for No. 2, and so on) in each poll, we put together a composite score to predict what the preseason top 25s will look like.

We can safely assume Georgia will be No. 1, but who else will be in the top-five?

Top 10?

Will Notre Dame sneak in there or not after a 9-4 campaign last year?

And where will the voters seemingly put the tiers?

Find out below as we used preseason rankings from Phil Steele, Athlon Sports, Lindy’s and the ESPN FPI to determine these.

Texas lands at No. 7 in Greg McElroy’s preseason college football rankings

Auburn volleyball’s Akasha Anderson named to Preseason All-SEC Team

Auburn is looking up to follow its historic 2022 season.

Pin hitter [autotag]Akasha Anderson[/autotag] was named to the Preseason All-SEC Team and Auburn was picked to finish seventh in the SEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll the conference announced Wednesday.

Auburn received 89 points in the preseason poll after going 22-9 last season and making the program’s second NCAA Tournament berth in head coach [autotag]Brent Crouch[/autotag]’s third season on the Plains.

Anderson was a major reason for Auburn’s terrific season, becoming the 2022 AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year and making the All-Region Team after leading Auburn with 428 kills and 3.54 kills per set.

Both were the second-best marks in program history and ranked top-five in the SEC in 2022. The Reston, Virginia native finished with nine double-doubles on the year, eclipsing 20 kills in eight separate matches.

Texas lands at No. 11 in Phil Steele’s college football preseason ranking

College football: Joel Klatt releases too-early top 25

Who is the most overrated and underrated in this top 25?

We’re just over 100 days until Notre Dame and Navy square off in Dublin to begin the 2023 college football season.  The Irish will be significant favorites in that contest but how do they stack up compared to some of the elite programs they’ll face in 2023?

We’ve been reviewing different “way too early” and “post spring” top 25 rankings the last few weeks.  Monday saw Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt release his and although he spoke very highly of Notre Dame at quarterback, he ranked the Irish a bit lower than most we’ve seen.

Below is Klatt’s entire too-early top 25 rankings with our quick thoughts on each program.
